I come from Philippines, and became interested in Portuguese cuisine and culture because I was shocked at how much influence they had with food in almost every continent! I dated a Brazilian before and they told me that they were amazed at how much influence Portuguese food had with other countries from Japan (tempura), India (vindaloo) to even US with Hawaiian dinner rolls.

Hellow from Brazil. I just loved this video. Wonderfull. We Brazilians are the off spring of a fast network of trade created by our portuguese great-grand-parents. Sometimes, here, I run into people that look so south east asia. Of course you can say that most likely they have native americans ancestors, that being the most likely explanation. But....given that the portuguese and the spanish were more likely to intermarry with locals from their colonies, I still wonder...thank you again for the video.

It's funny that I have the same thought, I heard this story about...one of the city in Burma celebrates Hindu festival because during it was under Siam control, our King appointed Indian/Hindus as a ruler over that city. I am sure you also know about our royal Russian descendant like พระเจ้าวรวงศ์เธอ พระองค์เจ้าจุลจักรพงษ์ too Seem like us Thai are more opened and willing to adjust than our neighbors, and result shows !! because pre-colonial era, Siam is pretty much rules these regions. Some how we are slow to adapt with our current governance LOL meritocracy always rules though !

The reason one finds Portuguese influence in agriculture, foods, cakes and desserts in so many countries is because Portugal was the first European country to launch the maritime global discoveries in the 14th century. They were even the first to establish agriculture in Hawaii. One of its popular pastries to this day is the “malassada” which translates to under baked/cooked.
