This is another example of why DEI is a stupid idea. Hiring on the basis of ethnic origin or, I suspect, religious affiliation instead of merit leads to trouble far too often.

Because they were hired under DEI basis, they likely did not actually meet the stringent standards to join the force. To think of the past stories where an officer ‘made a mistake’ during a bust, and the crooks walked. I think the police were right to do so.
