It's easy for me: 178g is insanely heavy for using as a helmet camera, and since it's bigger the moment of force is crazy. Assuming a center of gravity at the center of the camera, that gives (when camera parallel to ground, like when steeply turning on skies) 0.046N.m for the AP2, and just 0.032N.m for the Ac5. That's a 43% difference, this is actually quite big! It gets worse when looking at the moment of inertia, which is very relevant for neck movements: 0.073 g.m2 for the Ac5 vs 0.12 g.m2 for the AP2. Add to that the insane battery life of the Ac5 and it's an obvious choice.

I love my action 5 pro. I used it to film in Japan and it ended up being my only camera I used because it was so convenient to record with and because of that I got a ton more footage than normal to work with when I got home. My only real gripe is that low light kind of sucks and I find the look of the Super night to not be usable. It may have great low light for an action camera but I consider it a trade off for the convenience vs my mirrorless. Overall I'm really impressed with the quality of the footage in such a tiny and light camera and the stabilization is excellent for my uses.

Hi! You are back from Japan! Hope you had a great time! Yeah the low light is nothing compared to a mirrorless camera but for an action camera it’s quite good, specially if we look at GoPro and the action 4 performance, but as you said, the small size makes it quite convenient. I’m planning a trip to Japan most likely for next year. Besides my Sony camera I’m more inclined to bring the Pocket 3

Happy to be educated and / or accused of not paying attention, but I am confused as to which camera is which at different points in the review when both Camera designations A and B are used in an interchangeable manner - see time sequence point 5.10 and 7.40 for example, am I missing something? Is A the DJI Action Pro 5 until time stamp 7:40 after-which they switch before switching back again at 8:16?

Personally I would be split because I like to have different products just to feel them out and use them in different case scenarios. I think in your case, you might want to consider having the same color science and overall looks. Something I don't like is to match footage from different cameras when I edit videos, so if you care about that 2 of the same will make sense, and also what you said about sharing the same accessories is important.

@@mommyshane1928 simple: there are 2 doors, make sure they are well closed, if you see like an orange or red part on the doors it means they are not properly closed. tighten the lens, don't use other ones like ND filters (They are not waterproof) and once you come out of the water rinse with plenty of fresh water, specially if you used the camera in the sea

I would have liked to get the AP2 but it's not available anywhere. Also, in some clips I've noticed how the skyline behind trees will flicker on the AP2 footage. This looks terrible and is something they will need to fix before I consider getting one.

I have both cameras as well. My initial thoughts from reviewing footage from both are that the Action 5 looks better in good lighting, but is still unusable in extreme low light. The Ace Pro 2's image can be soft, but produces actually usable footage in extreme low light without a gimbal. In scenarios where I'm using an action cam (Beach, rain, boat, etc.), I don't want to have to connect a wireless mic where I'm worried about it getting wet, sandy, or oily from the sunblock. I'm leaning on keeping the AP2, but I'm going to do some more tests over the coming weeks.

I wouldn’t pay attention to those people that seem to have attention issues or are trying to generate drama or get views out of thin air. On the other hand, I do hate that insta360 haven’t done the right thing and issue a statement of what’s going on. They should just come forward. Some people say they are just doing the “low inventory” tactic to create a feeling of scarcity which leads to people to think that it’s the biggest thing ever, but if this was the case, it’s just backfiring at them.

(Edit, I thought max fps was 60, it's 120 st 4k. ) 8:39 to clarify, in case someone misunderstood, he's only talking about the horizon lock. But without it both do 4k 60 fps. But Ace Pro does 8k 30fps DJI doesn't, it goes up to 4k 60fps. This is clearly stated on their website. So for action both ste really 4k 60 cameras. For slow footage you can use 8k 30fps on the Ace Pro 2. You can see the fps without at 11:31

Sony X3000 is still almost a better camera than these. But if I had to pick DJI is the winner for 10bit, mic's, etc. etc. etc. I only take these creators who receive the cameras and accessories for free for a baseline comparison. None of them are going to give their full unbiased opinion just because they want to receive more cameras. If you notice if they do say something potentially negative always put a "maybe" or "potentially" or "it seems" in front of the negative to sound like its not a big deal. Its a word dance. Every time Otto says something one way or the other listen to how he says it. Its very political.

Thanks for your polite comment. I don’t hold the truth in many topics, and sometimes it’s really hard to pick a winner. I have said negative things about different products from these and other companies and they keep reaching out for different reasons, and if they didn’t, I’d still buy the stuff to review as I normally do. So I’m not a bit scared of saying one thing or the other. Also, I know this is not you, but I find it funny that people think I’m always getting the products from them. I have turned away some of them to buy them or *get* them myself somewhere else. It’s easy. Now about that camera from Sony, I’m down to take a look at it!

I don't know about the reviews. Surely the beta testers will have given some indications. It's the customers who had the problems and reported it. And there are customers who, unlike KZbinrs, have paid and received nothing.

@@OttoJulian_ OK, but would be interesting to know exactly why, it doesn't make sense. It's not a hardware thing. It's firmware. So to me it seems like a silly statement to not do it. But if they do it any then they make a fool of themselves. What it will do is effect file size. I don't see why adding 10 bit colour would require special hardware. Bu most monitors won't be able to display 10bit. Professional editing monitors will.

@OttoJulian_ OK, strange. I didn't know about the chip and 10 bit thing. But I'm curious why the chip can't do it. I don't see why. It's just color depth it's not like it's crazy demanding thing. Strange when DJI and Gopro can do it. So if this chip is so bad, it's strange choice. Does it mean it can't handle 10 bit with 4k 60? Or is it at 120 fps? 1 bit is not something most will notice. Not have monitor to display it. But 10 bit footage edited looks better whay I've seen. But a strange choice imo. But if it truly is the king of night footage then lots of people will go for it. I do mountain biking vids, and winter I coming, so it will be pitch black, and Gopros over the years have looked awful even with powerful lights surpassing a full size stadium.

I think the 8K video quality is the biggest disappointment of the Ace Pro 2. The difference compared to 4K is too big, it's like using two different cameras.

@@OttoJulian_ In 8K mode, the stabilization hardly works, and the footage is very shaky. Also, the dynamic range isn't as good as in 4K, and the details in the sky are lost.

yeah that's right, using 8K has some limitations and we as consumers are expecting more from that. For me it's not a big disappointment since it's very similar to what we already had on the Ace Pro but as I've said before, I prefer to use 4K anyway, I don't like being restricted with the main features by using a higher resolution..

A5P imo was not worth the $575 upgrade to my A4 as much as I like some of the new features, like you said, the video quality is the key, and it was not an upgrade from the Action 4, in some areas it performed worse. Coming from both Ace Pro and Action 4, what did DJI do to the skies/clouds?? I'm a sky person lol and that's just unacceptable for a 5th generation camera in 2024 ;)

Hey thanks for the feedback. When the camera came out I didn’t pay so much attention to the cloud issue, and focused more on the skin tone and better looking subjects but you are right, I like the word you used (sky person) and I realized that a lot of people do really care about it more than I thought. Hope they learn from this so they can evolve next year

Hey Vincent. There is a lot to consider before deciding which camera to buy. I saw your message 2 days ago and couldn't really give you an answer, I think they are both good cameras, but I find the Action 5 to have a slight edge and I would take that if I had to choose one, but at the same time you must know that none of these 2 cameras are perfect, and the A5 has some green trumpet flares that some people find very annoying (watch my Action 5 vs Gopro 13 review, where I compare both during daylight and I show a couple of clips with that), clouds have been a hot topic as well, since the ones on the A5 are "less alive", the wind cap for the microphone does wonders for the Ace Pro 2 which is useful if you need sound without wind (and NY gets pretty windy!), unless you are thinking of getting a wireless mic.... and so on. I will have another round of testing for the Ace Pro 2 very soon, so hopefully I can update you before you head to NY

The only thing I don’t like about DJI Action 5 pro are these trumpet light flares in both day and night. Unbelievable they could not solve that issue from 4 to 5 pro. There Insta 360 is doing a much better job.

Yeah they're huge even compared to famous iPhone green flares. I can't believe OA5 is still not really better than iPhone 15 pro ultrawide sensor/lens. Thinking of selling the dji. Last winter, I bought and sold OA4 because it didn't even have proper HLG HDR and I do use an hdr workflow on my channels. A pocket 3 sensor in OA5 body would have been awesome. There are some nay sayers, bigger sensor related focus issues and such being the reason, but it's not like we never had a 1 inch action camera.. I guess one can't expect a 1/3 of iPhone's camera capabilities at 1/2.5 the price

@OttoJulian_ They fix it from very low to just low. And it is stil the lowest among all the newest action cameras. And it is still terribly low in low light conditions. But you may not see such a difference because DJI's marketers in their methodology told you to ignore it 😂

im done with my gopro 10 now and looking at better camera. bad things about GoPro - when I first got it I could do 4k 120fps. after update it only did 4k 100fps which is still good but a flaw in the company of doing it. another flaw they have is developing the Quick Gopro app for MAC and I think windows and I use it on a MAC and I know they stopped using it and updating it and today I open it up and there's a red banner at the top saying it will fully end at the end of 2024. I hate the fact I got to send the video to my phone and edit videos there or send to Mac from there instead of just simply doing it. uploading to the cloud takes fucking ages. all videos are recorded constant at 5:21 file time. for some reason every now and then its done over 5:21 like I got a file 6 mins something some how idk. I also have old footage recorded at 4k 120fps and if I remember correctly I was struggling to preview or download to Mac. I want companies to not obsolete software and apps for windows and Mac and not just focus on mobile phones that have the latest and greatest cpus and ram that they run like PC fucking idiots. I was sick of my iPhone 14 Pro as it was stupidly big and heavy for my small hands so I like SE or the one I have now is iPhone 8, I wish I could get my hands on a iPhone Mini and guess what. iPhone have stopped making Minis for fuck sake. also with my GoPro 10 night time filming is so damn poor I want better and 4k.
