the name of that French army engineer who modernized the Ottoman artillery during this war was Claude Alexandre, Count of Bonneval, a renegade who served in both the French and Habsburg armies only to be disgraced after bickering with his superiors. He entered in Ottoman service in his 50's, converted to Islam and worked to upgrade the Sultan's army until he died in 1747.

During the Russo-Turkish War of 1735-1739, the russians fought bravely, managing to win all major battles against the turks, ravaged the Crimean Khanate so much it caused them to decline, and, although they gained only Azov, the war gave the necessary confidence to the Russian Empire that their army was modern and powerful enough to stand against other regional powers, which will prove to be the defining factor in them annexing the Crimean Khanate and shattering Ottoman morale in the next conflict with them three decades later. Meanwhile, the weak Austrians who, in the aftermath of the Great Turkish war annexed Hungary, Serbia, Oltenia and parts of Bosnia, failed miserably against the backwards Ottomans this time, losing all their newly acquired territory in the Balkans and signing a shameful secret peace treaty with the Ottomans behind their ally's, the Russians, back. I ask what will become of that indissoluble alliance ? I dare I assure you, sir, that even had the Emperor's army been absolutely destitute, the Empress my sovereign would have secured for him a peace far more honorable than Vienna has obtained." In conclusion, Common Austrian L.

Boy I can't figure out by those guys a general in the Russian army and the Frenchman would have bad things to say about Austria. That has to be great proof that what they're saying is true.

Hungary was still in Austrian Hands (captured in 1699) and the banat (captured in 1718). Only serbia and Oltenia and a small portion of the banat taken by the Austrians under Eugene of Savoy in 1718 were retaken by the Ottomans.

Serbian "freicorps" played a crucial role in these antiOttoman war. Serbs felt betrayed after Austrians made peace with the Ottomans.
