Sounds like the gain is up too high to me. Like the mic's amped up, and the software setting is low. There's a constant peaking distortion. Even after they fixed it. Wasn't she on a much cheaper AT2020 before this?

The thing they removed from the bottom of the mic at the end is a preamp. Adds gain. It's not necessary for this kind of microphone design. So you're right that it was too much gain, but they had trouble fixing the issue because its not immediately intuitive that the preamp was causing the massive gain boost. AT2020s are actually great for voice if you're in a very quiet room. In general condenser microphones like the AT2020 are more sensitive and pick up more background noise. It's great if you're in a studio, not so much if you're in a noisy apartment. Dynamic microphones like the shure are able to isolate sounds much better, and are less susceptible to unwanted background noise. That's why a lot of spoken word broadcasters (streamers, podcasters, radio broadcasters) almost exclusively use dynamic microphones. I know you didn't ask, but I'm bored at work so

@@plop992 I used AT 2005 before and shit's good. If anyone is interested in a dynamic mic you should pick it up because it has both usb and xlr and on the cheap end but packs insane quality without the need for fancy sound mixer.

I agree probably gain too high. However the AT2020 is actually a good mic. The main reason I switched is I wanted a dynamic mic because of background noise.

@@plop992 Heh. Yeah I didn't mean the AT2020 was bad - it sounded better than the very expensive Shure in this video, probably due to some setup issues. I'm not sure why any streamers use anything more than an AT2020 - Quarterjade still uses one and sounds great. If they're doing professional voice work or recording singing - like Lily or Wendy, sure go for it. But for just having a crisp clear sounding voice on stream and in games - that's just throwing money away imo.
