Winters are always harsh in the east and cannot be prevented. The fires in California could have been mitigated by clearing forest foliage and making sure water infrastructure was built to store water to put out fires. There’s a difference.

0:20 very high… Fire fighters knew that this could happen and all of la would be on fire and they can do nothing about it. But what’s saddens me most is incompetency of the fire department chief and mayor for cutting the funding and governor of California doing things backwards and not doing fire prevention and mitigation of the said damages. It is unacceptable for fire hydrants to run out of water especially in a state that has fire problem every year

They’re probably not in a high risk area. The fire department can figure out roughly where the fires are headed based on the winds and evacuate those neighborhoods. The surrounding neighborhoods are on standby just in case the winds change. I’m guessing wherever OTV’s at there’s not a huge risk or else more of them would have evacuated.

It's not the same as a hurricane where widespread evacuation is needed. Although the winds do pose a danger, the fires arent a threat until they get very close.

@@nicolev990 Yep. I live in CA not too far south of the Eaton Fire and the fire isn't spreading in our general direction. Most designated evacuation locations would actually bring you closer to the fire rather than away. The main problem is the air quality and you're fine if you stay inside. If you're closer to the fire in Pasadena, you're better off just hiding out in Westfield Santa Anita Mall for the day where they have great air filters inside and get something like a air purifier at home and you'd be fine at nights. If you were to go somewhere else, it'd have to be the south towards San Diego.

Because they technically arent in an evacuation area. So everyone leaving can lead to further backup and trouble for people who do need to leave right now. They're still at risk a bit because the wind can be unpredictable and a sudden change can sejd the fire their way but they've been told by the fire department that they're fine to stay right now
