It's not a code switch, it's literally how "cheese" is pronounced in mandarin (qi si) lmaoo

@@RaisinBug no but she actually said cheese in the english way (obviously with an accent), she 100% did not say the mandarin/taiwanese word for cheese and i assume it's to make it easier to understand for them. it happens here in hong kong as well, known as chinglish.

The lady in the video spoke slower and with more emphasis, and I think it had more to do with helping Yvonne understand her words in general and less to do with chinglish

@@RaisinBug yes the word is 起司 but if you listen to the “司” it does not sound like 司, it sounds more like chee”se” but w an accent and a bit of slurring into the 啊. if Taiwan has a different way of pronouncing 司 than standard mandarin then I apologise and take back what I said. I can definitely see why it sounds like 起司 though. -after listening a few more times with headphones, I might actually be wrong bc it’s possible she also just slurred the 司 to 啊 but the fact that she said “sugar free” in English a sentence later makes me still think that she said “cheese.” guess my 100% was off haha my bad but you can see why I and others think she said cheese right? I don’t know why I’m wasting this much time contemplating about cheese oops so I’ll just leave it at that, have a good rest of your day

Man, I get so much nostalgia watching these vlogs. Its been over a decade since I was went back to Taiwan but I still remember all the fun place I went to. If you guys plan to go back I would love to see you visit southern Taiwan. Taipei is great but I really like Tainan and Kaohsiung. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, there is also Green Island and Kenting. Both of these places are ridiculously scenic.

Random checks are scary things. I had one done in Canada, or at least I thought it was a random check. I was moving to South Korea 6 years ago and I brought *lots* of tech with me. I emptied it all out into buckets and realized, "Awh dang, I left my 48 hour power bank at my parents' house... Ah well." So the processing goes well, I put my black backpack through and then alarms start going off. They pulled me aside and I'm like "Oh damn, what's up fellas?" They surrounded me, and one of them starts grilling me with repeated questions about "Did you bring anything sharp or dangerous with you? Do you have any concealed weapons?" I'm like "Oh shit this is serious. Uh no, of course not? I'm a nobody nerd who just wants to move to Korea to teach English?" then they hold my bag open and ask "What's that?" and at the very bottom of my very very black bag I can barely discern that there's a wrapped up black item at the bottom of the bag. I had wrapped my mousepad *around* the power bank and put it at the bottom of the bag. So ... of course I didn't see it. Feeling sheepish as heck I just go "Oh, whoops! I thought I left that at home." and started reaching for it and they all started yelling at me to get down because of course I looked suspicious as heck. So yeah... Airports are fun. And don't lose track of your big power banks in them....

I think my Mandarin is a lot worse than yours (the Chinese school I went to was Cantonese) and trying to translate Cantonese to mandarin in my head first before I said it out loud was probably the most time consuming and nerve wrecking thing. Didn't know so many words/phrases don't exist in Mandarin lololol...
