Congress Proposes $500 Million for Negative News Coverage of China The effort to counter China’s ‘malign influence’ would fund negative coverage of China’s Belt and Road Initiative-while also beefing up the U.S.’s international lending. BY LEE HARRIS FEBRUARY 9, 2022 Congress allocates $500 million for media outlets to produce journalism for overseas audiences that is critical of China. The bill would direct funding to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, a U.S.-run foreign media service, as well as local outlets and programs to train foreign journalists.

500 million dollars. That's the sum of money the US congress allocate to churn out negative news coverage on China. First reported by American Prospect on Feb. 9, the bill was stuffed into the China-centered America COMPETES Act that got passed by the US House of Representatives. A majority of the half-billion-dollar fund will go to the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), a state-run media service that oversees Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe (RFE), and Radio Free Asia (RFA), which have a record of "blurring the line between objective news coverage and pro-American propaganda," the article wrote.

I went to China last year. I was walking on the streets in the mid night, I felt no fear at all. Everything here is so safe. Unlike in the United States, where at night there are homeless people and addicts everywhere, and you could be robbed at any moment. In China, I truly felt a sense of real safety and genuine freedom.

Unfortunately, China has not yet given the UK the best visa-free treatment. As a Chinese, I understand that there is a reason for this. The United States is very unfriendly to China and always uses mass media to attack and slander China. Unfortunately, the British government always behaves like a follower and servant of the United States and is also very unfriendly to China, including the media. The UK even followed the United States and drove warships to China's doorstep, which made the Chinese very angry. Therefore, it is easy to understand that the UK is not given visa-free treatment for the time being.

As a trader who's been following the geopolitical situation regarding the West and China for the past 20 years, the Chinese aren't "very angry", as its been going on for quite some time already. They're open to building friendly relations with the UK, as long as the UK is up for it - which in this case, they are not. It needs to be mutually beneficial, not like what the British had done to the Chinese following the Opium War, which led to China ceding their own territories like HK for the British to colonise. @OnTourWithDridgers I'm glad you guys are challenging the decades old negative stereotypes held by many people in the West - no thanks to the mainstream media, and some other "social media" outlets who are on the payroll by certain anti-China "NGO" associations. Keep up the awesome job guys - you have my support!

Great couple, great vids! I'm a Brit from Manchester and have been living in China for the last 18 years. During those 18 years my sister in Manchester has been home-jacked twice and car-jacked three times, my mum in Stockport has been burgled once. I have never been the victim of any crime and I have never herd of anyone's house being broke into. Does China have crime? Of course, but nowhere near the scale that England does. The over-riding domestic strategy over here is 'harmonious co-existence' it sounds flowery but it basically means cohesion in society. There are propaganda signs all around that promote this (you may have seen the long red banners with white characters). The idea is that a peaceful, low crime society is a healthy one that can thrive.

Thank you mate we really appreciate it since we’ve been traveling over the last year we have been robbed in South America but never had any problems what so ever in asia and without a doubt China is the country we feel safest. Growing up In pompey on the south coast it’s a tough city full of working class people. Back when I was a teenager I got in a lot of trouble and lots of fighting. Was just a normal thing. Although I think it’s a lot better I’m so glad we’re seeing the world and living this life. Although I believe there are good and bad everywhere. The gap between the rich and the poor is bigger than ever especially in the U.K. and people are getting desperate and drugs alcoholism and suicide are all time high. Make me so sad to see this. Anyway rant over 😂 Take care mate ❤️

You spoke for majority of visitors in China, as expatriate lived in Aus, Canada, US, I still feel shocked to see so many new things, how convenient and how affordable. China is going the right direction. About visa free, blame the UK gov treating China like an enemy lol anyway, it's easy, if 144 hour visa free runs out, just go to HK for half day, then come back, another 144 hours starts. Love the bloopers, did you say "prick"??lol Anyway, can't wait to see you guys back in China soon

true, the only reason a country gives another (usually richer ones) free visa is to attract tourism. Chinese economy no longer relies heavily on tourism, so they don't have a reason to offer one-way free visa while the UK doesn't give it back

Welcome to China and get to know the real China. The Western society habitually views the world from an ideological perspective, just like religion. A society that is different from itself is an anomaly and must be opposed. Socialism may be a relatively fair society compared to capitalism. I believe that there is no perfect pattern in human society, and experiments should be conducted to find the most suitable form of society for humanity. Nowadays, capitalism in the West has stopped evolving, while China continues to evolve and change, taking a different social form from the West. If China succeeds, it can provide experience for other countries to reform their societies.

The policy of keeping the people ignorant is terrible, just for votes. China is the world's largest industrial country and the world's largest agricultural country! It is difficult to compare prices with China in any corner of the world! China still needs to import large amounts of grain. The biggest reason is that China is the largest agricultural country and the largest livestock country. The output of livestock and poultry meat accounts for about 27% to 29% of the world. China's aquaculture accounts for about 70% of the world (60 million tons). The annual output of livestock and poultry: pig farming accounts for 45% of the world (740 million heads), sheep accounts for 23% (500 million heads), cattle accounts for 12% (110 million heads), chicken farming accounts for about 15% of the world (15 billion heads, note: the data of chickens, ducks and geese is questionable, and those raised in rural areas are not included in the statistics, not included in GDP, and the actual number of chickens should be more than 20 billion), ducks account for about 70% (4.7 billion, the actual data should be about 6 billion), and geese account for about 90% (700 million, the actual data is about 1 billion). At the same time, China is also the largest egg producer, accounting for slightly less than 35% of the world's total output. In addition, China's production continues to grow, with an annual growth rate of about 2%. China's vegetable production accounts for 50% of the world's total production; apple production accounts for 50% of the world's total production, equivalent to more than 44 million tons; citrus production accounts for about 28% of the world's total production, and China's citrus orchard area and citrus production have always ranked first in the world; grape production accounts for about 40% of the world's total production, ranking first in the world! Banana planting area ranks third in the world, and production ranks second in the world! The world's fifth largest pineapple producer, with a stable planting area of about 1 million mu and a production of about 1.56 million tons! I live in Guangzhou, China, where prices are low. My family of four rarely spend more than US$15, or about RMB 100, on groceries in a day. For example, 500g of eggs of different types cost 4-8RMB, 500g of beef costs 30RMB, 500g of pork of different types costs 10-15RMB, 500g of chicken of different types costs 10-20RMB, 500g of freshwater fish of different types costs 5-30RMB. Vegetables are even cheaper, 500g of cabbage costs 0.7RMB, 500g of carrots costs 2-4RMB, and so on.

Chengdu is very suitable for visiting in autumn. It is neither too cold nor too hot, and the air quality is also very good. There are many beautiful scenery around Chengdu in autumn that will make you speechless. You can even see the snow-capped mountains in the distance directly from the city. But it is best not to come in winter, because it is located at the bottom of the basin, and the air quality in winter will be disappointing.
