I find this to actually be one of the saddest episodes. It started out as a plot but Regina wanted to change. She actually bonded with Snow. If she just hadn't killed those villagers Regina might have had a chance at being good.

I know! Despite all the evil things she's done, she still wanted to be forgiven and to be good again and seeing that Snow would have forgiven her, she was so close but then it all went downhill when she saw the village slaughters.

Snow is an awesome fighter. That's part of why Regina is so stunned at the end, she hadn't realized how much little Snow had grown up since they last met, or what a badass she'd grown into.

She kill entire village just because they protect snow... I think they wanted snow to be there queen so this is why they hate her even before she became evil.....

She's already had the population of at least one town slaughtered, and she's been trying to convince the populace that Snow murdered her own father, and nobody's buying it, I think everybody's pretty sure Regina did it or had it done. Plus the disruptions to the economy and daily life that have to be happening because of Regina's hunt for Snow and the political disruptions.
