Slower yet more powerful than a 1 step entry, I use this for a go-forwards driving heavier or more stable opponents as a set up for uchi-mata, or by itself as an attack.
It requires good grips/break balance aspect.
As a "safe attack" you can hit this even against strong opponents because of good structural integrity and postural stability of the attack, it's hard to counter, hence I call it reliable.
I use this as an opener to present other attack opportunities;

Any tips for trying this technique in bjj? I find my partner frequently takes a very stiff arm approach and I find it difficult to close that distance to go hip to hip.

Stiff arms are countered by angular relaxed attack with shoulder slip, shrugs, look at detailed video I have 10 minutes video link in the details of this teaser tutorial

Looks very nice, but let me ask you, yourself competed in judo? won anything?

Yes, from 10 years of age, to still competing at master’s level this years Nz champs recently. I held senior mens Oceania titles (OJU) and competed in Nz championship over middle weight winning the title the most times of any competitor in any NZ weight class. I travelled and competed widely in Judo many years. At 18 years old, I lived and trained Judo at Kokushikan University in Japan 4 months and did it again a year later. Why? Does it my judo look impractical to you? It must! Check out the relaxed style of judoka with video titled “beautiful uchimata” I know relaxed style judo is foreign to many Russian stylist judoka.

I’m interested in starting Judo but I’m 30 years old and out of shape. I’ve been told it’s too dangerous and causes too many injuries and I should do BJJ instead. Is BJJ safer to start as an obese adult?

Would say in some clubs yes and some not. It’s not really the style but the coach and the training partners. Anyway if you chose judo I would put a judo based graduated fitness regimen in place so you become more athletic. Judoka need posture and balance to fight when exhausted and that requires fortitude, focus and some stamina.

En el ouchi gari el kuzushi jamás puede ser al frente, además gari significa segado lo que implica no levantar la pierna porque eso parece más un ouchi gake( enganche). Disculpe si molesto con mi comentario.

Ouchi Gake? Are you joking? Do you not know what you are describing is also Ouchi gari, just another way of doing it. Please refer Daigo Sensei (RIP) book refer Kodokan Judo throwing techniques.

Is this one of your weaker throws?
@JudoLife
@JudoLife Жыл бұрын
No way. It’s one of the reliable throws I use regularly. Does it look clumsy or something? I use it every judo day in randori. My favourite entry is circular draw and still catch some advancing Ouchi Gari sometimes. It used to be a favourite paired with seoinage. It may be a weaker entry, the method is correctly shown, now I am older I use the circular and one step more often.

@@JudoLife I've watched abit of your content doesn't look as polished as some of your other throws is all. Most of my match finishing techniques are ashi Waza so I'm abit of a snob nice judo though love it.

Maestro o uchi gari non è alzare la gamba ma disegnare un semi cerchio con l'alluce e il kuzushi è indietro giù😉😉😉

The advancing form varies a bit. I agree for the sideways version and the retreating version to scribe an arc with the big toe. The forwards corner driving version is subject to a specific defence of opponent hopping back and unhooking the action to avoid the throw. For this reason I employ Yamashita Yasuhiro Sensei style tactic of calf on calf, locking in at the calf and with down tension. Kuzushi in this instance can even be to the left rear corner. I demonstrate a strong downwards flick of both forearms in the kake. Initial kuzushi was forwards locked down and forwards, released creating up and back reaction, to get the opponent co-operating and pulling to the back corner.

Once you hook into and lock onto the calf, you ride it where you can. As I said it’s a go forwards style. I certainly haven’t the weight of Yamashita Sensei. I find in any case it works well as opponents do splits and they fall hard. That’s enough for me.

Relaxed but good posture is faster and more invasive with hip action. I go slow to teach clearly, actually a lot faster in fights.
