Mesmerising. As soon as I have some money, I am planning on buying one. What effect did you have on at the beginning, some reverb? Thanks for these videos, can't wait to channel a bit further.

Thanks for another informative video. Shame the timezones don't match up since you're in Japan so I'm usually asleep but always good to watch it later recorded.

Thank you so much for your KZbin videos and for your premium courses. They are of an exceptional clarity and quality. I am a very average guitar player and it has always been my dream to learn a middle Eastern string instrument (I am a philologist and specialize in Greece and I love the maqam tradition which is Greek as well). I’m 37 and I’ve decided that it’s time. I’ve chosen the oud. After just a couple of weeks of your course and free videos I’m able to play Üsküdar and some other popular tunes of the region and it sounds great on this devine instrument although I am a complete beginner. I am looking for an offline teacher but for a beginner your materials are exceptional.

I've been learning maqams for quite sometime, but I still on level 2, it seems takes a life time to learn all 7 levels.

The comparison of maqams Ussak, Bayati, husseini, muhhayer is exceptionally helpful, and your understanding of the different traditions of Middle eastern modal music is as always very impressive

What would you say is a standard oud tuning for sephardic Jewish music?
@OudforGuitarists
@OudforGuitarists 3 жыл бұрын
No idea. It depends on the key of the music, but most of the strings would invariably be tuned in 4ths.

Hey navid, i am milad and i play oud for one year. tank you so much,you very help me to sucseed! Can you write please the equivalent between maqams in arabic music and dastgah in persian music? For example mahur=ajam Shur=bayate And so on. Thanks again.
@OudforGuitarists
@OudforGuitarists 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Milad, That's great. Calling them equivalent is a bit too simplistic but I can say at least... Abu ata is closest to bayati. Bayate kord is most similar to husayni. Sometimes dashti can sound like husayni. Bayate tork/zand is most similar to jiharkah. Afshari is most similar to rast. Shur has no equivalency in Arabic music. It is too complex to reduce and has it's own quality. Homayoun is sometimes similar to both nakriz and hijaz. Esfahan is closest to nahawand. Segah is closest to Iraq. Mokhalefe segah is closest to huzzam. Chahargah is closest to hijazkar, but also so different. Nava has no equivalent, but sometimes it can sound like bayati. Rast-panjgah has no equivalent.
