To hear artists with years of experience still say things like " I struggle to make faces ", is such a comfort to hear, since I am only a year into modeling simply as a hobby obsession. It has immediately helped me to relax and try to manage my expectations of what I can achieve, I mean, how can someone new modeling expect to produce something on the level of someone who has been at it for several years? The fact that you've both stated your struggles helps to 'smash' the illusion of overnight wizardry. This helps a lot because sometimes I'm tempted to get angry when I try to model something and I can't pull it off due to some lack in skill; which is absurd I guess because, after all, we don't live in a matrix like Neo, where you can just plug a program into your head and become an expert like 'voila'. Anyway, thanks for the insights into your journeys; it has given me a lot to chew over.

I was pretty good at drawing before I started 3D. When I started 3D it had been about 10 years since I had drawn anything. About 2 years after I had been doing 3D I picked up a pencil, and I noticed that I had gotten a good amount better at drawing. I believe that I improved because my spatial awareness improved.

Also really cool to hear you guys talk about how you still feel you've got a lot to learn and grow. That's really inspirational to hear, especially for artritis that are still struggling and maybe feel stuck. For sure it's a matter of hard work at the craft, keep pushing and seeking to absorb and have knowledge of what you are trying to accomplish. Super cool! Congrats on all you've done and what you will keep on creating and doing in the futre! 👏💗

If you are going for 3D character artist for a game studio, wouldn't you only focus on modeling/sculpt and rigging (and ofcourse build up anatomy/color knowledge)? Seems showcasing compositions and such feels kinda wasted (when time is limited) if you are never gonna apply it in an studio where everything will be in t-pose/ with no expression and you cant use destructive workflow. I can understand if its done on free time or a client ask specific for it, because how much should you produce if things are supposed to be proper done? I am asking because I am pretty new to it, but have some background in 2D.

Thank you for this lengthy overview of both of your carriers! I have a feeling a lot of people usually overlook this when looking at art of other artists.. kinda of a tunnel vision? Would it be wrong to think that these days, with so much more accessible knowledge, you could realistically be able to find work in 3D industry even after one year of proper practice? Yeah, you ain't gonna make concept characters.. it will probably be some basic prop modelling and/or retopology but then you could get there with time I think that a lot of people set their goals far-far too high, as in "Hey look at these two and their work! Just god damn.. I ain't gonna work until I get to that level" Comparison can be a problem q.q

@lucasbosco34735 жыл бұрын
It was like that for me man, most parents don't understand our struggle but most of the time they mean well for us but they don't know that their perspective Can actually hurt us in the long run sometimes, I had Something like this happen to me personally at the same age but when i studied Hard and started getting results the all the naysayers in my family and friends cycle shut the hell up, I'm not saying that you need to prove them Something you Just need to show them that that you're serious enough and will do anything to get to your objective, when they have that confirmation that's when they start to Trust you, i know people are different and etc but most parents have similar behavior, you also need to show them that if they are not going to help you them you can carve your own way, that Will give them security that you have guts to face life as an adult.

How is understanding anatomy crucial for aliens and monsters that don’t have human anatomy?
@dreamsprayanimation3 жыл бұрын
It’s because anatomy has a structure and a pattern that most of not all living things follow. A crocodile’s anatomy may seem completely different from a human’s but at the end of the day it still has a spine, it still has legs, a jaw, eye sockets. Being able to understand how these things look, how they function and how they go together, things like how muscles connect to bones and the like will help you make things like aliens or fantasy creatures.

Just keep going.
@lucasbosco34735 жыл бұрын
Hey man, Just to clarify I'm not criticizing you or anything but You will never learn how to solve peoblems If you quit difficult projects, you Just need to Hang on and Power throught It! also you're still Very Young and growing, don't worry about the time because If you force yourself to do Something before a certain age you are restraining yourself from not only your goals but your growth as well, You'll be stressing yourself mentally and this will not do good and will take a toll on your mental health, take your time to get better and leave Room for you to breathe, enjoy life and learn as you grow on age and personallity(because people's perspective changes with time and you grow wiser and for an artist this is the most valueble thing) I speak from experience because when i was your age some years Ago i had this rush to do Something before my 20's and it did go Very wrong, only now recently that I'm seeing my own personal growth and How It Took time, Just take a day at a time, study smart and you get there! Sorry for the long text wall but i Just want to get the message out for people who doubt themselves and have this rush to make into the industry.
