How we found our $700 home with property! Here is our story on how we found our home and the process we went through to find it, and finalize the sale. This is a detailed process that takes focus and time but in return it can offer you a great property and/or home while staying debt free.
This home is in an area we have loved for many years and we decided to utilize other options for purchasing our future property to keep our costs low. We wanted to buy our country property for cash so we could avoid debt and utilize the savings to turn it into our dream homestead!

So if they do pay, do you get your money back? Or do you pay when everything is finalized?

You have to pay up front, then wait for the waiting/contact period to end (in our area it was 1 year). If they pay the back taxes you are returned your money and any fees (usually a small interest amount as well). So it’s truly lower risk but you do have to be open to repairs, empty land, and that waiting period 😊

We actually bid on a few others as well, we even won a few but they are much smaller and not nearly as nice as this one was. This one was nearly move in ready. Thanks for reading the story!

Can you only bid on the properties when the county has the tax sale? Or can you get the list from the courthouse and bid on a property any time throughout the year?

Typically yes, these are only done once per year. However in some of the more populated areas, like St. Louis for example, they have programs year round but the cost typically are higher overall.

Yes, some properties have the waiting period and some don’t. This one we had to wait for, so for a year we just tried to not think about it lol
