Thanks! I got hit by a car walking across the street Thanksgiving weekend. It was bad. I had begun playing SNAP shortly before the accident. I was bedridden for 2 months and I'm sure you can understand what that did to my mood and mind. When I left the hospital after a month and went to the nursing home it's environment made me worse. The accident left me homeless, and soon all my savings was gone and credit cards maxed. Then one day I accidentally found Snapchat with you two. It didn't just help my SNAP game but watching you both separate and together literally saved my life. I just began walking regularly with the help of a walker and hopefully in a month can leave the nursing home and start the next part of my journey as I'll be moving in with friends. Thank you both so much for your content. It introduced me to a world I could visit when mine became to painful to sustain. Kudos again to you both

Great videos guys once again. I appreciated the moderate and thoughtful discussion on Galactus. As a Galactus player who used him for my last 2 infinite I can say that you hit the button Spiderman and doc OC are the annoying part about him for the most part. I used him in like 500 games and used Spiderman doctor octopus like in 15 games I abandoned that boring brain dead style of gameplay. I'm one of the person who created Mr negative Galactus months ago and I've only ever seen it against me once. With enchantress shangshi super Skrull my turn 6 turn is never safe it's high risk high reward that's where I think he is fun and gives the opponent much more of a fighting chance. Reworking is ability could kill him completely but perhaps making spider a 3 cost who can't be played past turn 4 that would be amazing and enough of a nerf. Because let's not forget he's a 50% win rate card he can get nerf to the ground easily. Making him a 6-4 to 6-6 range is outside of Spiderman is a solid nerf with the priority dance.Have a nice day guys and the community and have a safe and sane Galactus discussions on the forums if that's possible :D

How about changing Galactus ability so that he changes the location to one that does something like this: Nothing can stop anyone from playing cards here. Cards can be moved here on turn 6. Destroys the other locations at the end of the game. That way, you still get to play cards or move cards to the Galactus locations before the game ends.

Great episode guys! Hulkbuster on Jeff is interesting, it's like a much earlier Vision, and it leaves your turn 5 open for other plays. When it comes to Big G, I don't hate him in a vaccuum. There are two things that I hate about it: the amount of play that he gets, and the toxicity of the person playing the deck. Sometimes, deep in a session, I forget that the opponent has initiative, I snap, and then Galactus triggers before my counter. And then it comes: the emote spam. I had a day where I faced Wave 6 games in a row: the first 4 were Galactus, the next two were Leader. The emotional damage that day did to me still lingers. the Spider-Man after Gally is toxic. I feel less bad when the opponent does it on Sinister. In a normal day though, I face him 2 - 3 times, and I pilot DeathWave and Sera Control the most now, and they have answers for Big G. Just like with Shuri, I don't plan on not playing solutions to Big G, until his play rate goes down.

@ErikRedin
@ErikRedin Жыл бұрын
I think the biggest issue with Galactus is Marvel Snap is all about big turn 6 plays and the feeling of satisfaction when you win the game with your turn 6 play, but with Galactus games, you almost never reach turn 6. If you successfully counter Galactus with Prof X, Juggernaut, Polaris, etc., that Galactus player is retreating immediately. And if you fail to counter Galactus, then it's almost inevitable that you'll have to retreat. Which basically means Galactus takes the most fun element out of the game.

@ErikRedin
@ErikRedin Жыл бұрын
@@ydgmdlu My point wasn't that Galactus restricts "explosive turn-six plays", it was that Galactus eliminates turn six entirely. You're almost never playing turn six. It's essentially an auto-retreat on one side or the other. My apologies if that wasn't clear.

@@ydgmdlu what is your point? Are you trying to pretend that Galactus isn't problematic? And before you say that he's not op blah blah blah I don't think he's op at all. But he is a cheesy gimmick that massively restrains deckbuilding since the counterplay to him rarely makes sense in most decks.
@ydgmdlu
@ydgmdlu Жыл бұрын
@@juliotorres3147 you must be a bad player if you think that beating Galactus is all about having an "exact counter" and reveal priority. Tell me, how do you "outplay" Daredevil + Professor X? How do you "outplay" Storm + Juggernaut? In both cases, you have to concede that location and fight for one of the others. Fighting for one final location is exactly what Galactus makes players do. And what about Storm + Professor (AKA the double lock-down strategy)? How do you "outplay" Sandman + Leader? Really, all that Galactus does is blow up your cards; it's not dramatically more restrictive than those other combos. You're just complaining because you don't want to see your board get deleted.

I'm one of those who don't see a problem with Galactus, the card has multiple counters. But I can definitely understand some of the *VALID* complains (I'm sorry but I don't think "the card is unfun" is a valid complain, for example, fun is subjective). The biggest issue I see people have with the card/deck doesn't necessarily rely on Galactus, and that's what's funny in my opinion; people hate "GALACTUS", but, sometimes, when you hear/read what are their issues with "Galactus", their issue is either Galactus being played before turn 6, or what happens AFTER Galactus is played. Well, guys, if those are the real issues, then perhaps the solution is not nerfing Galactus, but taking a look at energy manipulation cards such as Wave and Eelectro, and maybe changing how cards like Spiderman and Knull interact with Galactus (without nerfing the cards directly).

@@JStack Yes, what's fun and unfun is TOTALLY subjective, that's not my opinion, it's a simple fact. What's fun to you might be boring to others, what's unfun to me might be super entertaining to many people. Some people enjoy playing Patriot decks, which I honestly find a little bit boring; I absolutely love Hela and Mister Negative decks for how unpredictable (even for the person piloting the decks) they are, which is the reason why many people hates them. Even if you think there is, there's not an objective definition of "fun", because fun comes from enjoyment, and we all enjoy different things.

Always enjoy listening to you both 🫡 RE Galactus - While listening to you, I did wonder what would happen if they altered his card to add that all cards are destroyed permanently to prevent Wolverine bounces. It wouldn't prevent Spider-Man/Doc Ock which I agree is one of the worst parts of facing those decks (usually as you don't have a counter in your hand lined up) but it might just reduce the power in a Galactus lane going into those last turns or turn.

A real problem with Galactus and Death Wave is that the destroy synergies are just way better than basically any other archetype. If they gave other playstyles the love that destroy has gotten in card variety and locations, it’d really go a long way into maybe reducing how much they get played.

You guys touched on almost everything, but I will add one thing that I disagree with you guys on: When I comes to the cubes, I stopped caring about cubes and just enjoyed playing the game. I enjoyed seeing every game to the end, even if I lose. But with about 10% of my games being against a Galactus, I hated playing against that deck. It actively upset me and so I finally just deleted the game. I may download it again once the high evolutionary drops becasue he seems cool. And I hope they change Galactus by then. Personally my thing with Galactus is it is in my opinion an incredibly boring deck. Its uninteractive to play against and it sucks to lose or win against it. The galactus player gets countered, they immediately retreat. They dont get countered, you just lose. First three turns dont matter cause turn 4 everything is wiped out and the opponent just takes it. Ive played quite a bit of galactus, i didnt mind it early on, but the current playstyle is just infuriating and terribly boring.

I had a pretty bad season, havent been able to play a ton so I'm ending the season in the 60's and I was seeing Galactus about 40% of the time in rank 40. Most of these players never saw this card before now, they dont know how to counter it at all.

Well done with the content! My personal opinion about Galactus is, as long as the decks itself is not a problem in terms of winrate, there's no actual reason to nerf it. I do not aggree on the Sandman nerf, since despite its popularity, probably caused by the fact that the deck was relatively easy to make and replace, its wr was absolutely acceptable. Decks popularity issues should be solved by making the cards acquisition sistem more affordable for new end veteran players, not by deleting cards.

Alex - I’ve used a Discard deck to hit Infinite the last two seasons. Two recommendations: Ghost Rider instead of sword master. And Jug over Shang Chi. Why? Ghost Rider lets you play Lady Siff and Coleen Wing even when they aren’t hitting your desired targets AND it is predictable. Nothing better than killing MODOK on three and just bringing him back on five unexpectedly. I like Jug for ruining Galactus and often I find myself needing a play at round three if I didn’t catch Lady Siff. Food for thought. Keep up the awesome content!!!

Alex…. When Onslaught Citadel was hot i played 36 Galactus players in about 50 games. I kid you not. Galactus is a card that is not fun at all to play against, because he is combined with other tilting cards, like Doc Oc and Hobgoblin or Spiderman. You are able to add 1-2 cards to counter it but it doesn't seem to be as consistent as the number of times the opponents have their full combo in hand. I've been seeing Galactus so much that it made me play the game less altogether for the last two months 😞

@ydgmdlu
@ydgmdlu Жыл бұрын
You only notice when it seems to happen but you never notice when it doesn't happen. This is called "confirmation bias." If you did a large scale, scientific experiment with hundreds or thousands of games and take meticulous records of each match-up, you'll see that the matchmaking results are indistinguishable from random in terms of the decks that you see. What motivation does Second Dinner have for coding an algorithm to match specific deck archetypes together? And why/how would that algorithm only benefit your opponents but not you? You are always someone else’s opponent, so the alleged algorithm can only benefit/hurt all players equally.

I think the problems with Galactus are so layered that it might be useful to just list them all just to show how frustrating it can be, even when I don't necessarily agree (feel free to leave any I miss in the comments) 1. Galactus wipes the board and actively punishes you for playing on curve. Obviously he's killing your cards and powering up a potential Knull but the priority dance you play every time Galactus comes down is almost always in the Galactus player's favor if their opponent is actively playing the game. 2. Doc Ock the turn before robs your opponent of their counters. Sure, doesn't work on Debrii but pretty much every other counter Cozy listed can be nullified by Doc. Green Goblin, Shang-chi, Aero, Super Skrull, Cosmo... you get the picture. Sure, you could argue that Cosmo or Goblin should be down before Ock comes out but if your opponent leaves two lanes open or there's a location that makes that impossible then what? So, if you recognize that your opponent is playing Galactus and hold your cards to counter it, Ock punishes you for doing so which blows. 3. Spider-man. It's ever so fun to not be able to play the game! Honestly, I don't think Spider-man is even that bad, it eliminates the possibility for you to go for the counter and end up losing after all, but it nonetheless feels bad. Mostly because Galactus already stops you from playing the game effectively but then Spider-man just doubles down on that frustration. 4. Galactus is a very expensive deck. Galactus and Knull alone are more tokens than most players would be prepared to save. I think sometimes us pool 3 completers forget what it feels like to lose to a card that you just don't have. Like, not only have you never played the deck before and thus it probably seems way better than it is (cause the opponent retreats if they don't pull Galactus or ramp) but most of the Galactus counters are pool 3 and thus early pool 3 players probably don't have them. After all, we rarely hear about Devil Dino being broken despite the fact that he's one of the most consistent cards in the game, probably because everyone has him. Galactus makes the game seem like it's pay to win which is never a good look. 5. Sometimes you just don't pull your counter. Slightly less bad then having it get whisked away by Ock but still, if you only have one card in your deck that counters Galactus, it's very possible you never pull it. Maybe this is why Sera tech decks are super popular right now. 6. Galactus wastes your time. Sure, it's only a one or two cube loss each time Galactus gets to pop off but if you only get to play a few games a day that's probably multiple games you might as well have been not playing for. 7. Galactus players. I know there are people who just like playing Galactus (I like playing negative and they're both equally draw reliant and explosive so I get it) but there are also a contingent who use Galactus just because it's the ultimate troll deck. Its a "I get to kill all your cards and make you rage lol" kind of mentality, which is never good for any game. 8. Galactus is an extremely formulaic deck. I think this is a big reason why Shuri and Sandman were hated as well. It makes the game boring when you see the same cards every game and they always win despite your opponent never really having to think. In other words, one could argue that Galactus goes against the idea that the more skilled player should win. 9. Galactus is too popular. I mean, any popular card is going to attract haters. It's kind of crazy to say after pointing out how expensive Galactus is but he has definitely spiked in usage as of late. Not only that but there's way more clips floating around with titles like "Galactus sweep" that probably increase the perception that he's ever-present. To sum it up, Galactus isn't the same kind of toxic card like Leech or Leader who were bad because they were plug-and-playable and invalidated your last turn, Galactus is almost the opposite. Like pre-nerf Zabu once you see the pieces coming together you just kind of have to accept you lost due to the literal luck of the draw, which never feels fair. Plus, unlike Leader, Leech, or even Zabu who was a season pass card, Galactus is tucked away in series 5 for 6000 tokens a lot of players probably don't have. The worst part is, I don't know how you fix him given that he isn't even really the problem, it's all the cards around him. I don't know if Second Dinner would really go so far as to nerf Ock, Knull, and Spider-man just to kneecap Galactus. Honestly, the only thing I can think of is for Galactus to always give you priority? At least that way you can Shang even if Galactus gets to go off (if he doesn't get Ock'd out of your hand) I don't know.

My problem with galactus is that if you aren't playing a deck with the counters there's no, oh maybe I can still win, it's just an auto retreat and when you get 3 to 4 of those in a row, you're not getting to play the game OR you have to play a deck that you don't find enjoyable to have the counters needed or force a card that doesn't fit into your deck just for galactus. And that's a problem to me.

Galactus is absolutely NOT a problem in Marvel Snap. There are 19 cards that shut him down as well as a bazillion locations that make it nigh impossible to have his on reveal ability activate. Actually getting it to activate is a small miracle in and of itself, and even then it's still not a guaranteed win! I've still lost matches after getting Galactus' on reveal to activate due to an unlucky card draw or due to a clever play from my opponent. Galactus is fine as is and does not need nerfing. Also, Spider-Man after Galactus is just a smart play but one that is still also beatable by another card: Jeff.

I feel you guys undervalue Galactus a bit. First of all: the guessing is often a 50/50 if 2 lanes are open. Second of all, Galactus players usually have a backup in Destroyer or Hobgoblin or Dr Octopus which still can lose you the game. Another issue is that if they ramp from Eletro you're not sure if it's Dr Doom or Galactus incoming and it's very hard to defend from both. Most of my Galactus opp snap pre-SpiderMan so it usually means you lose 2 cubes on 50/50 I feel Galactus needs a revamp. He can even have a higher win/cube rate post-change but the current state is just a waste of time and no fun.
@ydgmdlu
@ydgmdlu Жыл бұрын
1) It may be a 50/50 for you, but it's also 50/50 for the Galactus player. Galactus coming down doesn't mean a win even if it's not countered. The Galactus player has to worry about the implications of reveal priority going into the final turn(s). 2) Hobgoblin and Doctor Octopus are terrible backup plans more often than not. The only somewhat reliable backup plan is Destroyer, but even it fails to win a lot of the time.

@@ydgmdlu sure. I feel if they do Galactus into Spiderman you pretty much lost because their deck is tailored a lot more to playing in 1 lane than you. It's not a 100% win but it has an above 50% win rate and a decent cube rate so it apparently works often enough

Unpopular opinion, but Galactus decks having priority makes me wish that wave were a 3/2. I've had cosmo, polaris, etc... but rarely have the priority needed to shut down the inevitability
@ydgmdlu

Most Galactus decks actually struggle to have priority going into the turn that Galactus is supposed to come down. That is one of the big weaknesses of the archetype. I really don't see how reducing Wave's power would make any difference. The only card that helps with priority is Lizard, which is not staple in Galactus decks because there are several other two-cost cards that they would rather play (e.g., Daredevil, Cloak, Wolverine).

I think Galactus would be better if we just gave him the infinaught treatment. Buff him to say 7-8 power (so he's not insane and a card like). Have him still destroy the other locations but change his play condition so that he can't be played if another card was played in the previous turn. This could make him a big surprise play behind a weak Knull (Cant cosmo protect Knull if you want to Galactus behind him) and the play pattern would be a little more predictable in that you would Wave turn 3, Knull on 4, skip 5 and Galactus 6. He could also be played in other decks using a She-Hulk/Sunspot Synergy as a huge surprise to flood decks. Could even leave him at 2 power for the massive power swings, it would leave his decks more vulnerable to Shang Chi, and potentially either Valkyrie or Enchantress depending on power scale methods as they would play in 1 lane (Perhaps too much of a Shuri Synergy)
@the_flash_v9840

My point of view comes from loving Galactus as a concept but also understanding that its not a very good card right now. Sure, it can climb to infinite but you're doing it 1 cube at a time. I can do the same thing by playing Negative with Prof X and Mystique (now that shit gets me tilted lol). The card itself is a unique concept, I wouldnt even mind giving him Magik treatment. Drop his cost to 4, and make it so he can't be played after turn 4. To get around spider-man instead of destroying the other locations he could create a new location that cannot be obstructed and either destroys the other two locations or combines their power (could be a weird spin on the effect). This way, instead of just bandaid fixing the Spider-man issue with Galactus we also prevent anything stupid happening with Professor X and future cards that will affect location use.

Galactus should get a rework so that he can only be played on turns 5 and 6. If he’s summoned on turn 5 then he destroys the location that he is currently at, and if he’s played on turn 6 he destroys all other locations, or the other way around if that’s what would make it balanced. I love Galactus and I like the cards he can enable like Knull and Nimrod, but he should not be able to just win entire games by locking the other guy out of playing with Spider-Man. Also they should add a voice line where he says “I will spare your puny planet” if he’s played on turn 6.
