Imagine a series of sculptures, which provoke many different emotions. Then imagine diving down 12-14 meters to see them. Incredible. Not so incredible when our outboard breaks down and we end up having to be rescued! Ah well, Comme ci, comme ça.

About Us
We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane.
However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on.

Clever anchoring trick. The [video] take of Teulu from a distance showing the swaying of the mast as indication of "rolly" was illustrative indeed. The underlying issue is that you have a sea state that is not in line with the wind. The wind keeps your boat in line with its direction, but when the waves follow another path, it gets rolly - side-to-side motion. Forward and aft, up and down, movement is easier on the mind than rolly, so this clever trick solves the problem by making it impossible for the wind to blow the boat along its direction.

one tip, when pull starting if you want the cord to last, don't yank it ever when it's un-tensioned. tension it first before pulling. I noticed you yanking the chord before it was tensioned even when the cord was frayed and hanging by a thread. never do this even with a brand new chord, it puts the chord under significant additional stress and load suddenly in a split second, this is likely why its not lasted even though you recently replaced it i think you said.

You need to make a “flopper stopper”, yes it really is a thing (google “faymarine flopper stopper” for a simple design). I was pretty sceptical, but the cost of a triangle of ply and a couple of weights I thought it was worth a go …. and amazingly they work. Not perfect but it stops the roll building up to the “cannot sleep” stage 😀

Electric outboards are good but would never beat a petrol outboard for torque and hp

Went on a package holiday to Papagayo with my wife and kids a few years ago, and walked round that marina. But it must be so much better arriving on your own boat, instead of by jet. You’re certainly living the dream.

Great vid! There are some things sold called rocker stoppers. It's easy to find on line and they don't take up much room when in storage. I know that some of the other u-tube sailors use them.

Sorry to see that pull rope go it's likely that the bolt coming loose is the recoil unit assembly bolt or known as the do not unscrew bolt i learned this the hardway when trying to get an old 4hp evinrude working and it holds together the recoil assembly.
