Bill and Deb, IMO, you two are doing the absolute right thing. I've been living practically full time in my 2019 6x12 V-Nose single axle CTC for 3 years. I built it for boondocking and take it places that would shred a standard RV. It has one function, to satisfy my needs and wants. It does that perfectly. I very much appreciate your channel.

I've had friends who went and bought brand new high dollar and used pull behind campers and I've also read alot about them and after approximately a year and a half they start developing all kinds of stuff that goes wrong with them and they might be fancy however they're missing the craftsmanship and quality that you are able to achieve by building your own. Also you can layout things in a manner that suits you best.

EXACTLY!!! We paid $98K for a 2017 42' Big Country 5th wheel w/ 5 super slides, double fridge/ freezer w/ ice maker, top of the line everything w/ a stackable washer & dryer, fire place, triple sliding glass door shower, King bed, ceiling fans, chandelier, sky lights, cedar closet, outside TV, stereo inside & out.... BEAUTIFUL. A year after having it the Kitchen floor had to be replaced from sagging. The washer would over flow randomly into the waterproof underbelly!! The second AC froze up DAILY & the main breaker caught fire. Slide covers dry rotted in West Texas sun in a year, the gel coat dulled in a year, Took 3 months to be serviced and they never could figure out how the washer was over flowing. We finally cut our losses and sold it. SO the fact that you have that HUGE shower (The main reason we bought the camper we did) & Custom EVERYTHING, SOLID WOOD EVERYTHING, I think is AWESOME. I wish I could have walked and chose every single part ourself & had known it would hold up.

Yes!! You can cut memory foam mattress with an electric bread knife. It will cut like butter. We cut a tempurpedic mattress with great success. A tip though take the 1st cover off and then the netting?? carefully cut it. This way after you cut the actual mattress you can reuse the cover material and help keep it's shape. I hope this helps! You have obviously put a lot of thought and planning into your build, and it is coming along great. It is clear that you folks take a lot of pride in your work, and it shows. Thank you so much for taking us along through your videos. I have learned a lot, and gained plenty of ideas through your build, as I'm sure others have also. I have owned a tag-a-long trailer and class A motor home, and have no plans to repeat those mistakes. The poor assembly line production and extreme depreciation is a losing proposition, I know from experience. Still waiting for material prices to drop so I can become more motivated to attempt a build myself. Hopefully some day...... Thanks again for including us all in your build, and life "on the road". I think I would add a water line to the toilet for a little flush. A simple limiting valve to control the flow and a switch for an on off electric valve. Hit the momentary switch valve opens small amount of water flows to flush the umm ammonia down. That storage floor at the back door could easily be on a piano hinge on bathroom side. Open door lift up...a gas strut would make it really fancy and hold itself open

Hey guys!! I found you recently and have been gobbling up your videos. What a treasure trove of info and enjoyment. I have a thought that has been rolling around in my mind for some time. The mini-split..... awsome solution to a major issue. Something I've been curious about for a long while, ducting. Do you think it's would be effective to build a plenum off the front of the interior section of the mini-split. My reason for pondering this is to have a way to distribute the conditioned air evenly throughout the trailer. I could just imagine standing in the kitchen area having cold air blowing directly on me while trying to cook. All the while the very back of the trailer or the bathroom is not as cool as the kitchen. I'm confident I could build a plenum and ducting system off the exhaust of the mini-split. I just don't know if it just wouldn't be worth the effort or if it would interrupt a function of the mini-split that I am not aware of. Have you ever run into a trailer build that someone has built ducting for the mini-split ? Do you know of any reason it would not work due to how the mini-split operates ?

$17K So Far Ain’t Bad at All. A Decent RV that Size would be $26K-$30K Plus. Nicer One like Lance or Winnebago about $40K-$45K. Airstream - $65K....... I’m figuring $18k for a 7x16’ build - just ain’t got $18K right now. 😂 How will you drain the kitchen sink - just gravity drain to grey tank.?
@tedjones1123 жыл бұрын
And besides maybe having a slide out - Travel trailer wouldn’t be as Nice/WellBuilt. No Solar/Battery bank, Crappy roof top AC, Crappy flimsy shower, inefficient 3 way fridge, propane rv furnace, smaller water/waste tanks etc. and a factory floor plan. And possibly end up like these guys - stuck in Freak Texas Ice Storm in a 2 yr Old Travel trailer - their tanks froze, expanded and cracked and twisted the trailer frame - TOTALED. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6e1eXeiZpp-Zpo

jusr curious, urine to gray water tank? where do you dump the tank at a sewer connection /rv dump correct?
@billanddebАй бұрын
We dump either at a Campground dumb station, or down the sewer drain at the Campsite if we have full hookups. We also have an auxiliary waste tank in the van. We use a macerater pump to pump our waste Water up into the 42 gallon permanently mounted waste tank in the van. The Vans waste tank has a standard RV style sewer connection on it that accepts a standard RV sewer hose. We drive the van to the nearest dump station and dispose of the waste Water there. We've covered this in other videos.

Bill, I have 2 questions for you: 1) how will the heat work for the cold months, especially along the floor and under the floor where the plumbing is?; 2) just wondering why you have pieces of wood between the upper and lower unit mounts for the air unit outside (the black iron, I think)? I can hardly wait to see how great your finally product will be. I am excited to see the outside and inside finished projects. Keep up the great job both of you!
@billanddeb3 жыл бұрын
The mini split is also a heat pump. However, it won't work so well in temps below 30°, but we plan to be in warmer climates during the winter. None of the plumbing is under the floor. Some of the plumbing is under the "raised floor" in the bathroom area, but the primary floor below the plumbing is also insulated and these areas will be vented in such a way for warmer air can flow freely. Again though for at least this coming winter, we'll be in a warmer climate. Florida is calling. 😁
@billanddeb3 жыл бұрын
The wood section on top of the mini split frame was necessary because the tongue rails tapered in such a way that made it too narrow for the mini split mounting points. However, those planks are 5/4 treated lumber used for exterior decks and such. Eventually they will be painted as well.

I was guessing to the screen as you were saying it, $17,000. We sounded like an echo of each other. That’s a great price so far! I definitely see the value there. I mean yeah, you two are kinda slumming it at the moment but I can visualize the finished product. I think you may be looking at closer to $25,000 all in but even then, just look at what you have! Incredible so far, just amazing really. A new travel trailer may have a trendy (outdated in 5 years) look, but it won’t have the quality of materials your rig has. And it won’t fit just you two exactly how you want it to function and live. I see value all the way.

We was a little shocked at the total, and we are not done. We check pricing from all sources before we purchase, but it adds up. We budgeted around 18,000 in our heads. So not bad.

The unforeseen though is the price inflation of nearly all of the materials you are sourcing for your build. If you can even find them that is. Prices seem to have increased 20% to 50% and more depending on the item. I purchased windows similar to yours last year. Slightly bigger. They were only $72 each. The exit windows were $134 ea. All of these windows are way higher now even if you can find the size you want/need.

Deb, what about adding a under the counter pull out shelf so you can use when you need it? That seems to popular in van builds.
