It has taken some time to decide on the appropriate drive train and propellers system for our Catamaran. We tossed up the pros and cons of many different propellers and we are so happy with our choice.

we must be rooting for you and Janet because, for myself, i have watched all your episodes be they thick or be they thin; interesting or bored out of one's mind. What i do know is that for everyday that this build goes on, your fortitude (and Janet's) is constant and emotions must seem like an ebbing tide! All i can say here is........... **** Push on Mates ****!

Ross, You probably already know this but when i put new shafts in my sportfisher the mechanic re set the alignment a couple days after after we launched to let the hull stringers relax to its final position in the water. He even checked that the prop wash from both props were even under way.

Mate, looking great, it will be easier to harvest your sea life seeing as the ladder is on the lid. Nice design. Even though it sounds stupid to use anti-seize on a compression fitting do put a smear on your shaft and the taper. You always need to clamp the length plus a smidge of the diameter of the shaft. Like a bolt, the nut is the thickness of the diameter. We use these couplings on most of our pump shafts and the bite like a bitch. Probably have your machine shop make you up a wedge shaped tuning fork like a ball joint tool. To make separating the shaft a few years later down the journey. I didn’t notice if the tapered section had a couple of taped holes to make extraction easier. Or run a tap through 2 or 3 of the bolt holes. So if 8mm bolts run a 10mm fine thread and have some bolts handy to seperate it🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

Ross, I heard you mention the rudder, linkage, rams etc were all located under the steps along with a manual/backup option... that seems to indicate the back area under ladders will remain unused or inaccessible ? What if you made something like a drawer or custom fitted tray to slide in there, but still be pulled out over steering gear ? You could store less often needed items like engine oil, belts, fuel conditioner etc...

Curious why the Constant Velocity joint that is so common on FWD cars is not seen in marine drivetrain applications. Seems like the ideal way to deal with the changing geometry of the engine/driveline as the parts settle with use and time.

I so agree Rosco, the standard of, and mix of, materials YM use makes their engines disintergrate into rust and corrosion in aa few years. A good mate with a YM in his cat used the remaining clean engine oil of a service oil change and brushed it over the engine to reduce the rot. Looking at your shoulders being at water level as you worked on the ladder space, are you sure you could lift your leg 1 meter to get onto the ladder?

Pretty sweet Ross. The ladders and the ladder boxes are awesome and there is a lot of storage under boxes. Good for bumpers and light weight items. I'm not sure how you will access it though. I guess around the rudder shaft. As always thanks for sharing.🏝

Just wondering. When you are stepping up the ladder and reach the hands off area. Are you going to have a grab rail? I have a simular style ladder and had to install a strap to provide stability to make the final transition smoothly.

Ross, we know yer not lazy. So was it you weren't sure of the ladder box design so you sorted it out piece by piece as you went along? You're a composite master so I'm trying to figure why you didn't build the box at the bench. Anyway, its a nice, compact design.

They look fantastic mate, Btw have you considered a taper on the bottom part/transom to a slightly inwards manner to the bottom of that hole maybe 2-3 inches (taper length), as it will support those ladders once in the open position with reenforced surface that matches the ladder angle eh (hope that makes sense) Ned

Ladder box will bear the weight of the ladder when in the hatch with someone on at at times, other thing we considered is the incredible forces that a pooping wave that will drive into the box under the hatch, not sure we can even imagine or calculate that stress but it will be considerable .I am under no illusions after having worked on dive boats and sail oats that have leaking transoms and ladder hatches. My worry is the integrity of the hatch locks and hinges that could easily be blown off in such a situation.Cheers Rossco.
