Regarding Mimi’s nose cancer- I just had Moh’s surgery on my nose to remove a cancerous tumor. I was feeling sorry for myself and afraid of how I’ll look after all the stitches are removed. Seeing Mimi and how she handled her nose cancer journey reminded me that there’s a better way to go through this. I’m channeling Mimi from here on out! Thank you Mimi! ❤(PS Mimi is the name my grandkids call me- another reason for my Mimi connection)

Great design and love those tiles. I agree with Petty Hurrell....a wash up sink in the mudroom would be a plus! You both have such excellent taste and the fact that you are a chef....your kitchen will look amazing and look forward to what you come up with.... Mimi is adorable! One of the reasons I like and enjoy your site so much is because of the animals, your humour and your DIY projects. Thank you!!

4 thoughts on the kitchen layout: 1. Wouldn't it be better to rotate the island 90 degrees so the max available counter space is back to back? When you turn away from the cooktop to do more chopping, etc. with the layout shown, the short side of the island is more easily accessible. I'd want the long side behind me. You can look out both windows to either side this way, too. 2. Will there be a dishwasher? If so, in the island next to the sink? I have this layout, and I designed the island with very deep drawers on the opposite side of the sink, which is where my dishes are stored. It's super convenient. 3. Mudrooms can get cluttered pretty fast. Do you want to sit at the kitchen dining table and look into a potentially cluttered space through a glass wall? Maybe windows running along only the upper part of the wall to still allow for the light? 4. I'd make both sinks large kitchen sinks rather than one a small bar sink. Everyone I know who's put a bar sink in their kitchen says they wish they'd done a full size sink instead. I hope there's something helpful in there!

Those old floor tiles are wonderful. The black does look like our counter tops which are soap stone-they just look dry. I have to oil or condition mine every 8-9 months now. Started with monthly and eventually i won't need to oil but once a year. So worth it for the natural beauty. As suggested below and if I'm spending your money I would suggest a dog wash or large sink. We use ours for the dogs baths and to pre wash clothes/ muddy vegetables from the garden and to prep flowers. i bet you could use the stone sink in your basement or something similar like more soapstone. Again soapstone is work but work the effort. One more thing: consider a drain in the floor for washing machine over flows or if you need to really mop down because of dogs etc.

I would also put the sink on the other side of the island. You would still face a window and also guests at the table. You will have many less steps to the fridge and stove. Your kitchen designs will be spectacular! Mimi is a lucky cat and you’re both blessed to have found each other to love.

That depends of the size of the island. I would suggest this instead, just have one sink on the island. Place the faucet: 1. Option: on the left side of your sink instead of front of you (the sink is on the middle of the island) Option 2. Faucet in front of you but you place your sink at the end of the island So this way you can work on few sides with both options. Your island is going to be a great happy place. You can see people, your view outside and can have visitors around to help you prepare diner with you. :) Make sure you have enough space for the circulation around. Don't forget the openning for the garbage, a space for recycling and all the electric outlets to cook (blender). Make sure in your island you are going to have plugs to connect your little computer (recipes) and a space to connect your mobile phone to (recharge). New kitchen island are amazing now and you can have everything near you.

Oh I just love your videos. The scenery, the music, your beautiful home and your animals. Hope you are feeling better. We’ve had a lot of strong winds here today in Iowa, and it’s getting colder which is giving me epic allergies, or sick. Happy anniversary to Mimi! 🎉 I’m so happy she’s a indoor cat now and cancer free. Loved her sun ring that was cushioned. How nice for her. I’ve only ever seen the plastic ones. I have a similar story with a cat I rescued from our old property that was abandoned and use to run yallowing through our forest. He finally decided to come in and be our cat. And now he’s just the sweetest little boy. Love your kitchen ideas. All sounds good. Inspiring to see your pictures, yes I use to do that too. I should do it again. Can’t wait to see your remolding process! Don’t forget the RHO Salt Lake City & Beverly Hills are great this season too.

Kitchen will be amazing I'm sure. My only question is the position of the sink with your back to most of the room, the table and the two doors. The sink may sit better on the other side of the island which would allow the person at the sink to see into the room (and out the other big window) and would be great for when people gather in the kitchen. The island can then be used as a buffet service area. Good luck!

Love the idea of the washup sink and dog bath for the mud room. You have my sympathies on the kitchen layout. I have a similar issue with a door and tall window on two walls and another door on the third wall to the dining room. Trying to make it all work was a headache. I would suggest trying to find space for a counter near the fridge and freezer. Just a small area where you can put things down is suoer helpful.

Going to be fabulous. My suggestion would be to prioritise bench space over a second sink, at least in the kitchen. So whichever position u really want the sink then go for that. I love my bench space free for food prep and my sink tucked away as dishes always accumulate around it, clean and dirty! I wonder if for the boot room you cld shift the cupboards to the rear wall and have more glass on the inner wall so it’s almost incorporating the space into the kitchen? Lots of light and the feeling of a larger kitchen. You may not need a full glass wall but cld feasibly have half wall with sink there and cupboards for storage. Just thoughts of what might look nice. Love Rodin pencil hood ornament. Thought it was a pointing hand at first (and very appropriate to your task)!

Love your channel. Hope you feel better soon, and that you’re safe from the storms. You’ve such great taste, that you don’t really need kitchen aesthetic advice. Think of the flow from stove to fridges, work spaces, dishwasher. The very best thing in a kitchen is a comfortable seating area and a banquette. Love the window seating you’re planning, will be great in summer, in winter without double glazing it will be cold though. Yes to a wood burner and a comfy chair or two. Your original cabinetry is beautiful.

The stone looks a lot like Bluestone as found in the Ardennes region of Belgium and other places. Depending on the way it is treated it can go from blue/grey to nearly black, from mat to high gloss. It needs some layer of protection as it is not hard-wearing.

You might consider installing a serving hatch between the kitchen and dining room. It would save a lot of to-ing and fro-ing with food and dishes, especially since your connecting door is not very wide. Also black and white chequered tile floor design is masonic symbolism! I loved you labelling the animals on the night cam - as if we didn't know!

This is my spin on kitchens. Decide what equipment you use where. I made work stations in my little kitchen. There was a 40 foot lockup of household gear, alot , I mean a LOT of kitchen gear. It had to go into the new kitchen. When it was sorted, very little was donated as I use it 😊 . Make sure there's a cabinet for serve ware, somewhere to plate up., food prep and cooking. Then it will work well without having to poke things in somewhere that fits ,then you can't find it. You don't want to have to walk too far . Love the 2 sinks. I wish I had put in a tap by the cooking so that there's not any carrying of large saucepan to the range. I wish you well. Its a big project, take your time, get it right..xx

Your tentative kitchen plans look great with the salvaged historical tiles in the mud room. A fireplace would be outstanding and may I suggest a wooden island table with open storage underneath and the sink in front of the window. It is more château fitting than a typical American kitchen with a massive island. This is only a suggestion. Take care, Ralph Rocchiccioli

Love seeing Mimi!! Kitchen thoughts: not sure if the island in the middle intended to have any seating opposite of sink, but I would think what is more important - window views when you wash dishes or window view when you eat at it (and sink closer to the window side)
@nicolehopkins2189
@nicolehopkins2189 11 ай бұрын
I would keep the fireplace, move the stove to the island and have the sink right infront of the window. That way you are also closer to the fridge while cooking, and the business end of the kitchen is overall closer together (sink, stove, fridge). Dishwasher could go besides sink on wall side, maybe between fridge and sink or on other side of sink. Whatever you decide, can’t wait to see the process!! 😊

I am wondering if sometime you would do an episode on finding/buying things in France. What auction houses, on-line sources you have found? Glimpse at customs, shipping and tips work arounds you have found? I guess I'm asking two things one is the resource question and the other is to let people know some other things to consider that are different here. Nothing that would take you far a field at all from your topic but would provide some interesting and grounding info. As someone who has just moved to France in the last year I am having to learn the differences between shopping in the US and shopping here. But most of all I'm intrigued by where you go shopping online for the château!❤❤❤

Just thought you might like to consider putting up a foldable clothing rack on the wall beside your dryer to hang shirts and slacks with less wrinkles till you take that load up to your closets. I agree with the comment about maybe not wanting a full wall of windows looking into the mud room. Higher windows would allow coat hanging and bench/ boot storage below on the mud room side without direct viewing from the kitchen side.

What a lovely space! Suggestion: Your kitchen triangle (stove to sink to fridge) traffic pattern seems long and awkward with the sink on that side of the island. Movement throughout the kitchen would be more fluid if the sink were under the window next to the fridge. It would also give you counter space next to the fridge, which is recommended by kitchen designers. Besides, you probably wouldn't use two window seats in the same space.

It looks great but I would suggest moving the fridge/freezer. They're pretty far away for an efficient kitchen. It'd be nice if you could rotate the island so the sink is facing the stove and swap the fridge/frezer with a large section of those cabinets by the stove. You could add a few bar stools to the long side of the island and make the cabinets/counter area where the fridge/freezer used to be into a tea/coffee bar. You could even consider moving the small sink over there.

I would skootch over the island to be centered and aligned with the stove and windows. I would put the sink on the opposite side of the island in front the window; and have bar stools opposite the sink so they can watch you work 😂 and to have the view of the window. The corner opposite fridges can be a coffee/tea station with a bar sink and open shelving, hooks for mugs.

I suggest you sketch in all your traffic patterns. With the layout shown your movement from the sink to the fridge or to the stove will require an awkward jog around the corner of the island. I see bruised hips in your future. Also, make cutouts to scale of the window seat and table and chairs and play with positioning not forgetting comfortable clearances. I think you will find the chairs may be in front of the door from the mud room.

Sorry to hear you have been under the weather, hope your feeling much better😊 Loved this video as it had a nice variety of things going on at your chateau. Great good luck as you begin the huge kitchen project. It will be fabulous, with you & Lincoln on the job.

Given that you are a chef, I can't wait to hear your explanations for why (and what) you decide on your lay out. I've always had a smallish kitchen but I love how I can reach everything so easily and get the job done efficiently! Looking forward to seeing what you do (love the inspiration pics).

Maybe part of the island or one of the counter tops can be set a little lower ... and perhaps with a special piece of marble that Could be used as the baking area (so that it is just the right hight for kneeding etc).

Gosh there’s been some terrible weather over there in France. I follow a few Chateau channels and it’s been Storm after storm. Rain, rain and more rain. I hope the donkeys were ok in the end

I love the black and white marble with touches of the warm wood and some gray and black cabinets. Also like the, I think it's called, a Welch cabinet. I know it will look beautiful because you have great taste! Best wishes from Kansas City, Kansas USA ♥️♥️♥️😘Lived in NJ for 52 years
