Super! You figured out how to make a methanol injection system work! Now, all you need is a secondary Nitro Oxide system to add to your deseil engine. You turn on the NOS after the methanol system is on. Poof! More pow'wa! Make a spacer plate between the intake manifold and the carburator and drill out holes for the NOS inlets. Hook up a hose to the inlet tubes from the NOS bottle relay switch.

Its a diesel, you can just jet it into the turbos intake, i ran a 12v cymmins mud drag truck for years like that, you can't really add too much nitrous to a diesel, it will eventually jack up your egt's but if you are only using it as an intermittent power adder for nid run it isn't a problem

More torque into a torque converter means more speed, if not necessarily more power. Biggest issue is too much torque will overload the hardware, less a limit of the engine and more the transmission (toasting clutches and breaking belts). they are great for making low hp engines get off the line quicker. In Straya; we have an old 2000 Mitsubishi mirage with a 1.6L engine that makes around 90hp and an old school 4 speed automatic. Our newer shopping getter; 2024 chinese 4 door MG5 with a 1.5L that makes around 110hp with a CVT gearbox. Despite latter being a bigger, 120kg heavier car; the MG5 is a rocket merging next to the poor old Mirage with a slushbox. The big caveat with traditional CVTs is they are NOT good for lots of horsepower, these new chinese cars all go to dual clutch autos when the power gets past 150hp for that reason. Nissan sadly for my aunt are not that smart.

You could tell that Bell Clutch setup was Screaming for dear life on the bottom end from the torque that single cylinder diesel made way more torque than I'd ever thought it would honestly id like to know the Stroke and bore size of that thing I'm certain if you ported that head and possibly cut the valve chambers for bigger valves that thing would haul the mail cuz it's almost like it's fighting Restriction on air flow from the start but Porting and Polishing the head would make a huge difference and with the flow also the longer the intake runner tube and adding a expansion pipe like a tip to what you already have like 3 inches length and neck it down to slide over your existing pipe will make it sound cool and probably give you a HP gain the intake runner length really helps on low end torque mostly especially as rich as y'all's mix is already... Id add a 50:1 ratio 2 cycle mix per gallon to my fuel that keeps you from washing your cylinder walls down with diesel cuz it's abrasive as you know I'm sure and the newer synthetic two cycle oils are way cleaner and your not gonna smoke anymore than it already does and it lubes your injection pump and injector Tips as it runs like the Husqvarna 50:1 Synthetic That's in the Silver bottle with a Blue top would be perfect for that engine it'll also probably cool down the hot side of your turbo I always run that or transmission fluid on any diesel I've got the fuel turned up on they both burn off clean and lubricate the fuel system and top end of the engine just because diesel fuel is so abrasive even though it's an oil technically....

Methanol-water is to help with cooling. The methanol itself does a good job cooling the intake down because it evaporates in the intake (phase change gives crazy heat removal properties). The reason methanol injection will be good is because you can’t put any more diesel in with that injector. It’s a linear injector which is hard to get more fuel out of once it’s actually built. So the way to get MORE FUEL in when you add MORE AIR with the turbo will be the methanol. You’ll be running SUPER lean AFR’s with the methanol and the diesel is there to light it and bring the AFR back upto where it should be for combustion. It’s all REALLY low level chemistry and entry diesel stuff.
@mrmikemanify2 ай бұрын
How can methanol cool the intake when engine is direct injection? Or is the engine port injection?
@MarkValascun2 ай бұрын
@@mrmikemanify port injection usually. It’s because you’re injecting ‘cool’ methanol into a ‘hot’ intake gas after the turbo (happens more with high boost scenarios for the cooling). Now because the gas is hot and the methanol is atomised, the methanol evaporates and the final temperature of the intake gas is lowered. (I think my original comment explains what happens during phase changes/change from liquid to gas) ALSO if any liquid gets to the cylinder, that’s great to an extent because now the remaining liquid can phase change while on the walls… cooling the walls and keeping everything slightly cooler.
@mrmikemanify2 ай бұрын
@@MarkValascun That engine is direct injection. You're not going to get evaporative cooling of the intake manifold with direct injection. Only thing methanol is affecting in that engine is EGT.

@@MarkValascun And Methanol has lower energy density than diesel. This is a flawed setup.
@MarkValascun2 ай бұрын
@@mrmikemanify I’m going to try be nice… but you should consider understanding the concepts you talk about at a bit of a deeper level before you enter into a conversation and make yourself look like a retar… silly person. Let’s step through this like I would if I were talking to a teenager who’s just discovered tuning. Where are they injecting the methanol? Before the turbo. So the methanol is injected into the INTAKE. Which means the methanol injection is NOT direct injection. It’s more of a port injection. The DIESEL is being injected using direct injection method, but NOT the methanol. FURTHERMORE, yes methanol has less energy density but there’s more than energy density that goes into the equation when it comes to horsepower, mainly the stoichiometric air fuel ratio is the other REALLY important piece of information in that equation that you obviously didn’t know is in there. AND they aren’t using it because it’s more energy dense. They’re using it because they likely CANT GET ANY MORE DIESEL OUT OF THAT INJECTOR PUMP. The only way to add fuel to the engine when they inevitably crank up the boost will be to add something to the air before it gets to the cylinder. If we ran on your logic then the TOP FUEL drag car operators are wrong because nitromethane has 4 times less energy density than diesel! In complete honesty, 1. I don’t think you will be able to read this far in the comment without typing something back and not finishing my comment. 2. I don’t think you understood what I said before about this being a port injection methanol setup. 3. Don’t think you have a CLUE how methanol injection works or its advantages 4. You obviously have no idea about how horsepower is theoretically calculated and how energy density relates to fuel efficiency and NOT HORSEPOWER. Buddy, the secret to TIG welding is to prop yourself such that you're comfortable and stable. Having your arms up in the air like that is going to make it really hard to get a good weld and it's a miserable experience. Move the piece you're welding farther down the table, get your arms and elbows propped on something and hold a really tight arc--no bigger than the size of the electrode. If you're using a 3/32 electrode you want to be that closer or closer to the weld pool. Having a long arc is going to cause all kinds of problems and it just makes it a sucky experience.

Remember that exhaust size, and intake tube sizes are not about volume with a turbo- a turbo is all about pressure, letting too much exhaust leave the turbo may actually cause the rotor to slow down, while too large of an intake chamber between the turbo and engine may not allow enough compression of the air. Large intake ports, and exhaust pipes are very necessary for natural aspiration, but often are affected in reverse with turbocharging.

Few things i've learned from working on older diesels. Cam driven diesel fuel injection pumps like that use shims for timing not fuel quantity. Thicker shims retard the timing of fuel being injected into the cylinder where as removing thickness allows the pump to make the necessary pressure to pop the injector lower on the cam lobe. By adding thickness and retarding timing you give your fuel less time in the engine, lowering heat created, energy used, increasing smoke (unburnt fuel). Diesel burns slow. You gotta give it time to get hot and light off. The turbo can and will help with that if you can get it to make pressure. Also get rid of any PCV recirculation system. Block it off on the intake and put a breather on the crankcase. If you pressurize the crankcase you'll negate some of what you are trying to accomplish with the turbo in the first place. You can also push oil into the cylinders when the crankcase pressurizes which the engine will burn, which will throw off your fuel air mixture. All that being said, this is how i would approach this engine. (Granted im just a rando off the internet so, grain of salt) 1. Remove the PCV and seal up the intake so you're using all of what little boost your turbo is giving you. 2. Run Your own fuel tank and feed line to remove any restrictions. stock tank is only meant to flow stock fuel amounts. Step 4 may require you to add a supply pump to increase fuel flow into the engine depending on fuel tweaking and how much the engine really needs with proper pump timing. 3. Get your injection pump timed right. I believe this step is the KEY. You should see less smoke and higher EGTs as the fuel is having more time to burn. Remember thinner=advance thicker=retard. 4. If there is fuel quantity control it should be near the throttle plate. There may not be though on such a cheap engine. If there is find out how to adjust it then dial it in to where you have a slight puff of smoke initially under loaded throttle then it should clear out at speed. You should not be rolling coal. That is peak inefficiency. Get that thing running right and you'll really be able to tell the difference. If you have any questions let me know. 🤙
@GabrielsTech2 ай бұрын
The issues with a small exhaust pipe is that the exhaust exiting the engine is hot and still expanding. That is why you want a bigger pipe. Even if the turbine is small. I mean look at the exhaust wheel on most modern turbo charged engines. They are tiny, but still the exhaust downpipe is often double the size or even bigger, depending on the power output. A small turbo can perform really well, if the restriction at and after the turbo is removed. You could also try opening up the wastegate port on the turbo. That can also help the turbo perform even better as the dumped exhaust has an easy exit path. Again this causes a less restriction. 🙂And less restriction will also help the the exhaust gas temperature. Also you might wanna try a electronic boost controller to keep the wastegate under control. Running it right of the compressor housing could cause the wastegate to creep open earlier making the turbo spool up a bit slower. With this you could also help cool down the exhaust temperature as you introduce more air into the engine causing the diesel to burn cleaner. More boost, more air, more fun 😀

@punkguy71 it's all about the ratios. For a kart, you need to underdrive the axle from the driven pulley - mounting the driven pulley on the axle eliminates that. That turbo manifold to downpipe flang is the same style as older subaru turbo engines. Take a look at all the different ways. Manufacturers have figured out how to make aftermarket downpipes for that type of fllang.
@cheesebone822 ай бұрын
You don't necessarily need more rpm for more boost, you just need the wastegate to open with a higher boost signal. You can build a homemade boost controller out of $20 worth of stuff at a hardware store and it would work great for a setup like this. I built one years ago when I frankensteined a turbo from a Saab onto a 95 Escort Station Wagon, lol.

So the exhaust pipe should be bigger in diameter, even though the port is the same size, you have to think of it like the Venturi effect of a carburetor. But you will also get better boost pressure too if you put a barrel in line of the intake runner, the barrel could be pretty much the same size as that fuel tank you have under the steering wheel. This will cavitate boost between cycle strokes, giving it higher consistent boost.

Exhaust gasses are essentially unburned fuel. Black smoke, lots of unburned fuel. clearish white smoke, less unburned fuel
@googan14252 ай бұрын
Usually white smoke means raw fuel from worn injectors or low injection pressure. ideally there would be no smoke cause that would mean complete burn, but with mechanical injection and non vgt it is pretty tough to get a complete burn throughout the rpm range.

I would love to see the wastegate on the turbo eliminated and the valve tied shut to see what the actual boost pressure and spool up it is capable of with that engine.

Gang! I think the turbo exhaust manifold should be longer/u-shaped! Im not sure comments meant a larger stinger pipe?- you need some volume and length give the combustion gases time to build- similar with why you need some space and length between the turbo and intake manifold (in the intakes instance, to provide volume for the boost to build. If you just have the mixture going right into the manifold with no distance, the compressed air will just travel into the combustion chamber as fast as the boost can start building; so essentially you don't build efficient boost). That's my thought!
@ryaninwa5375Ай бұрын
From what I know of the cam driven fuel pump, you need to remove shims for more fuel. More fuel and more boost, more vroom. Diesels inherently run incredibly lean most of the time with no throttle body, so power is made by dumping fuel in. Moving the pump closer to the cam will open it sooner, longer, and wider with more pressure.
@musicauthority6742 ай бұрын
I agree with Ike, nitrous isn't fuel methanol is fuel. because diesels don't carburetors a person is going have to adjust the nozzle/jet. that squirts the alternative fuel. I was an OTR truck driver, and the trucks that I have driven 1000°exhaust temperatures would be somewhat high. on a semi truck engine on a hard pull up a steep grade. and because diesel truck engines are liquid cooled. a person should notice the coolant temperature will rise along with the exhaust temperature. and a normal diesel truck engine should produce a lot of black smoke under a heavy load. not as much smoke when there's not much load on the engine. that's why if you watch a truck as it's going though the gears. each shift you will notice a lot of black smoke that will disapate untill the next shift. and if you smell raw diesel fuel you know it's over fueling? and that can cause exhaust stack fires. in other words flames coming out of the stacks and you want keep that to a minimum. note what I have just said pertains to diesel truck engines. and this could be different for a small diesel engine. something else about exhaust temperature. is you shouldn't turn off a turbocharged diesel engine. with a high exhaust temperature because it will melt down the exhaust side of the turbocharger.

The diameter of the exhaust is one thing, but your egts can significantly be reduced with a expansion chamber if you will. Or a taper in the exhaust after the turbo to return to atmosphere pressures will dramatically reduce temps!
