that is absolutely awesome that it was the guys at TGW who made all those little historical facts that pop up. I was wondering why they looked so much like DICE had just "borrowed" the words right out of Indy from this channel. Little did i know, it WAS Indy from this channel...

Yeah I noticed that a lot! Like look at the one about woman, I swear its almost word for word the woman's role episode. It all makes so much sense! I am so glad DICE was smart enough to use these people to teach real history, I feel the codex system is one of the best aspects of the game and off sets the obvious historical inaccuracy's.

Apparently we are getting more war stories with future dlcs. I'm pretty sure I've heard France and Russia are confirmed as future dlc. Dice are good at listening to the fanbase, so I'm sure they know everyone wants a central power story and will include one.

Yeah, but not having at least france in from the start is a historical travesty. Combined with the retarded single player missions with invincible supersoldiers in mech suits anf the like, BF1 is a massive letdown for me.
@henryphillips6263
@henryphillips6263 7 жыл бұрын
bond0815 I agree that it's a bit odd France wasn't there from the start. Not sure what was 'retarded' about the single player though. I guess the mission you are talking about is the Italian one where you wear the armour. Admittedly you are very overpowered with the armour, but that section was aimed as being a tutorial for the pickup classes in the multiplayer. In fact the whole campaign is aimed at teaching you different aspects of the mp. The section after it without the armour is much harder in comparison.
@primordialbias8711

Personally, the first mission of the Italian story comes across as the narrator embellishing for the sake of telling a story.

Another reason why BF1 isn't that realistic is because it is not a new IP, it's Battlefield, it already has a fan base and a formula. I think they just can't change the whole gameplay just for being realistic, and at the end of the day, this is an AAA game that millions of players will play, they can't take that risk.

True, and well, as much I know this will piss people off, I'm glad DICE did NOT do all bolt action rifles, because, as a BF guy, it's frustrating for those who PTFO (Play The Freaking Objective, like capturing flags and whatnot), to see Snipers... just not helping at all (Like seriously, where's the flares, you camping Kill/Death Ratio Scouts?) XD (Yes, I get it that's what Snipers are supposed to do... but come on, they gave the Iron Sights version for a reason for aggressive-flares-deploying playstyle, you know)

Game took a risk when moved to WW1 era which no other major FPS game ever did so we can be thankfull for that. For me it was a good way to start learning history of WW1 because I never did it in school or somewhere else. And as they said, you can still learn alot about ww1 from this game, and thats true, its also true that you will learn alot of interesting things that aren't talked about when reffering to WW1 like areal combat, crazy prototype gear that was used during the war etc.
@TheTerraImperator
@TheTerraImperator 7 жыл бұрын
They should just add a single game mode where you only have a bolt action rifle and a shovel, and have to sit in a trench for 5 hours until your incompetent commander screams "over the top!" and all your lands get decimated by enemy artillery shells.
@MeMightyLeper

The way Verdun deals with snipers is peer pressure - the best players are the ones who charge out, and both their example and their angry words of encouragement are enough to eventually convince the snipers to stop. It's almost always a new guy, who simply doesn't know, or doesn't realise, that sniping is actually a hindrance. In Verdun, the goal is always to take trenches - one person can make all the difference, and they can mess up the advantages of forward spawning if they don't move up.
@alvarmg17

I love when people complain about the MP-18s, but one of the major operations is Operation Michael where thousands of MP-18s lead the assault on the British sector. Yes, as a player you can bring it to other maps (or you can not be a b**** and use faction-based weapon setups). But why would a game dev ever say "you're on a different map, let me take away 1/2 the guns you unlocked." Never. Besides a multiplayer game about WWI will NEVER be "100% realistic" because people can throw away as many lives as they want. can't really do that in real life. (that the general's job).

The one problem I had with the MP-18 is that it's a pickup in the Gallipoli story...there is no way, even if production was rushed and the MP-18 entered service a bit sooner, that you would see an MP-18 in 1915, and especially not in Ottoman hands

Here's the really *big*, obvious missing content from the game: Where are the French!? They're among the most important combatants of the Entente and WWI, and yet they are completely absent from the game! I think DICE did a great job with a lot of aspects of the game, so I sincerely doubt they overlooked them - seems more likely that French forces will be added as the first major expansion (I hope)! It's true that the game is fairly arcade-y and the weapon selection creates an anachronistic feel more similar to WW2 than WW1, but I think overall they captured the setting and feel of the conflict well. The attention to the soldier's uniforms, gear, and equipment is amazing, as is the detail of the vehicles and maps. Like Indy said, it's not really representative of history, but the inspiration is clearly there and they were able to turn it into an engaging and fun multiplayer game.

I think the words arcade-y are a little disingenuous considering battlefield is probably the most realisitic shooter outside of games that are specifiically made for simulation purposes like arma...compared to COD/Titanfall/etc it's a lot less arcade-y.
@Mars0War

But it's still a lot more arcade-y and "fun first" than something like Verdun which eschews fun and player empowerment for a more accurate representation of WWI battle tactics.

As you explained in your comment, my intention was to point out that BF1 doesn't try to simulate realistic combat in the same way that a game like ARMA does. While BF1 is certainly more realistic than fictionalized games like COD, there are still a lot of elements that are unrealistic in order to make the game more entertaining, as opposed to strict simulation of historic combat. Things like being able to survive damage that would usually incapacitate a person, most players having auto/semi-auto weapons instead of bolt action rifles, light tanks being faster than they were historically, players being able to regenerate when out of combat, and so on. All of these things make the game more "arcade like" but also increase the entertainment value of the game compared to a strict simulation.

to be fair you have done some cracking work with the codex, cant think of many games that people will stop and read them rather than running about shooting someone, i do wish they had cut back a bit on the far fetched things like the speed of the vehicles and the fact that the pilot in the single player is indestructible! but its just nice to have a game that isn't based in space mountain, i do wish they had expanded to show the battles in Serbia,Africa and show the perspectives of most of the nations central and entente powers as you say the line between good and bad was very bloody and the aftermath led to disaster to quote Ferdinand Foch "this is not peace, this is an armistice for twenty years"

Sure, but even though I love the setting, I feel like having it be essentially just a re-skin of earlier BF games isn't that good of an idea. WW1 wasn't ultra-fast-paced, so whilst I really like the gameplay, from a gamer perspective, as a history buff, I dislike the gameplay.

On the Western Front, it was mainly trench warfare. The position of the Entente and Germany barely moved for over four years. On the Italian Front, it was also mainly trench warfare, albeit in the mountains. There were 12, yes 12 battles at the Isonzo River alone. The Eastern Front, Middle East, Africa and some of the Balkans were the places where open war was fought. The game shows this open type of warfare everywhere. Also, the weapons. They do not represent the war. It's a video game and all, but when everyone is running around with prototype weapons that were never used in the war, the game loses credibility. Calling it World War II in a World War I setting is very appropriate.

You know, what was sad is that they already had everything there where everyone could have had their cake and ate it too. Why not just add a check box or create game lobbies that had an optional "realistic" modes? You get your bolt action, running through no man's land is quick and easy death. Defend your trench until the artillery stops, then sound the charge. Regular fans could still have their experience, and those that wanted a little more historical accuracy could have theirs. Everyone wins.

Where has this Flo been? There's not nearly enough if them on this channel. During the *Out of the Trenches* segments it would be hilarious if, while describing a given subject, Indy just called out to flow like "isn't that right, Flo?" or "Flo knows what I mean." Perhaps even an occasional "Flo, what are your thoughts on this matter?" Though not to force flow into serving as comedic relief or something to laugh at, that would be rude.

Considering the conditions of trench warfare. I think bf1 wouldn't be as fun if it was 100% accurate. Imagine having most deaths on the battlefield caused by disease, hunger, cold, sniper shots and machine gun fire. The majority of the players would complain that the game is unbalanced, and unfair, but war was just like that on that period lol.
