Hi Vee, I just subscribed because you are my "in-law". Luos we used to eat cassava leaves, but this ended many years back - may be early 80s. Now, about your dad coming to your house - I understand why your hubby was uncomfortable. For Luos, in-laws "maro" are highly revered. A man shouldn't carelessly interact with his parent in-law, especially mother in law....you get the point? But I like it that you have been able to mix your two cultures. And by the way, I think Luos are the most flexible community when to comes to accepting and appreciating other people's cultures, so you are in safe hands. If Congo girls are like you, the please help me get a Congo lady to marry😆😆😆

Hey, mbote. i'm kenyan girl dating a congolese. I love pondu. I never had any cultural shock. I blended well. Maybe because we met abroad. He's been to Kenya before but I've never visited Congo. I would love to. Even before meeting him I had always loved Congolese and of course their music. I'm stilling learning Lingala. I think it's easy to grasp and very romantic. I am luo girl. I can teach you luo you teach me Lingala. How about that? Sounds like a plan, right? By the way, Ozali kitoko.

Malamu moninga! I wish I knew Lingala that well to teach you. People from Goma like me mostly interact in Swahili 😅 but I wouldn't mind to learn a few words in Dholuo

Actually from lakeside and luhya and do eat cassava leaves made with milk and not eaten same day - you keep warming with milk every day for about 3 days before consuming it. Should try it - you will love spice as you like it👌

I'm a 100% Congolese sad that my village security has never been good since war started in October 1996. Now, I'm a mother who lives in a foreign country that I'm extremely proud of but sad 😢 I can't take my children to my village because of insecurity and is marked red zone with UN

HI!! Africans pay bride price not dowry. Bride price is where the bridegroom or his family pays the bride's family for her her hand in marriage . However, dowry is where the bride or her family pays the bridegroom or his family, when the bride is getting married. The dowry system is practiced in India. Many people confuse the two.Thought you should know.

Oh thanks for that clarification. 🙏🏽

In some of our cultures your mother cannot greet your husband by hand. And your mother cannot spend a night in your house with hubby- you would have to ask a neighbour for bed space. Its changiyniw with city life.

In my congolese tribe it's the same.
