You have one misconception on your resume. Russia is a country of non-cash money, because foreigners in Russia can get a debit card and open a bank account within 5 minutes at any bank branch or arrange everything online and you will receive a debit card by courier to any place you specify within 24 hours (or a couple of hours). It's all free and you don't have to pay anything for opening an account and servicing it. After that, you simply change your currency into rubles at any bank and deposit these rubles into your account at any ATM or bank branch. It's all free and takes from a few minutes (if you register everything in a bank) to several hours (if you register online and wait for the delivery of a bank card by courier). You could have issued yourself a bank card on the first day (in the first hours of your stay in Russia), put money there and forget about cash. Also, before arriving in Moscow, you could arrange everything online through the applications of the largest banks in Russia (in English). It only takes a few minutes.

It’s also worth considering that you can use the card almost immediately after opening it in the application, even before you physically receive it. You can also leave it at home and pay for everything using a QR code.

Moscow is a city where cashless payments are common. We are one of five countries where people use smartphones and other methods to pay for purchases instead of using cash. We use the Russian payment system MIR.

I'm glad that you guys have enjoyed your time in the country. Hopefully, you will come back soon and on a less high-profile tour. The rest of the country is also very much worth seeing and not as scary and/or dangerous as you might think. upd: I've watched your closing thoughts and had to add a small correction: Moscow is not a cash city. Yes, you can not use foreign cards in Russia thanks to sanctions, but we have our own system called MIR (which btw means both 'peace' and 'world' in Russian and some other Slavic languages) - you can get a MIR card in half-an-hour in any bank with nothing but your foreign passport and Russian SIM-card. You can then pay with the card virtually everywhere inside big cities and in the majority of places further away from civilization.

Before the start of the 2022 war, Moscow was ranked as no. 5 best major city in the world (1. London, 2. New York, 3. Tokyo and 4. Paris) by the most reputable urbanist organization. Of course Russia had to be removed after that. But Moscow continues to improve in most performance indicators despite that and is now arguably the most livable megacity in the world.

These Western rankings are more than ridiculous. in 2023 neither Moscow nor St. Petersburg did not make it into the world's top 100 best cities. And Russia took the 6th place in the ranking list, as the most unsafe and dangerous country for tourists to visit. Only Afghanistan, South Sudan, and three other small countries surpassed it in that ranking.

There are dozens ratings and most of they mean nothing. In 2020 and 2021 Moscow also won so-called "touristic Oscar" as city no. 1 in world - most clean, most safe, most green, most comfort for tourists, with best public transport, etc.)

And another interesting thing about Tatarstan connected to Arabic culture and Islam. In X century big embassy of caliphate came there to spread Islam between Bolghar tribes - ancestors of some modern Volga region nations including Tatars. Akhmad ibn Fadlan was the secretary of that embassy, he leaved his memories about that trip and now it's one of the main sources about history of Volga Bulgaria. There's also remains of ancient Bolghar city - place where embassy came and then it was one of the biggest trading centers and centers of Islam in Eastern Erope untill fall of Golden horde.

You should have tried typical Russian orange(as in colour) Oplepiha tea ... Sea bucktorn berries are among the highest containing vitamin C fruits (8 times citrus fruits)
