I definitely think they’ve alluded to the way Natalie feels before, not only in fishes where we learn that she constantly asks if her mom is ok/is the one to clean up after her, but in the first (and I think second season?) we see her say that no one ever asks how she feels, that Carmy doesn’t answer her calls when she reaches out, that her brother just died too, etc. And even the fact that they call her “mom” within the restaurant points (imo) towards parentification within her own peer group - being the caretaker instead of being taken care of, which would for sure start to wear a person down sooner rather than later.

Such a beautiful episode, one that both characters needed.

Michael was born after she was lost, wandering and he wanted to stay in there. Carmy was born in chaos and noise and pain. Natalie was born after a vivid dream of something beautiful that no one noticed but the glass was cracking and a lot more were going to see the beauty. That’s beautiful writing.

There are several comments and faces JLC makes that made me instantly flashback to my Mom giving the same looks and comments to my wife for our oldest's birth. It made me laugh and cry at the same time.

They kept asking if she'd called Donna to tell her she was pregnant

Yeah, after the edit, I’m realizing that Sugar didn’t know that Donna already knew because of Pete. I guess he really did keep it a secret that she showed up for friends+fam.

Sir, Donna was not the most fun to be around for a mother(seen from Fishes episode, season 2)and there’s probably so much more unhinged shit we’ve never seen Donna do around her kids growing up. The woman drove a whole car in to their house, and saying “Fuck you Natalie” for asking if Donna is okay at the dinner table. So, of course Sugar didn’t want her to be around during her pregnancy. All Donna did was bring trauma into her life. Like even Carmen doesn’t want to be around her. We have not seen one episode of Carmen and Donna together in a scene during the present time in all of three seasons so far. I’m not getting how he didn’t understand Sugar not wanting Donna around like..?😭

I don’t think it’s so much that I don’t understand why Natalie doesn’t want her there. The trauma has been well-documented. It’s that she bit the bullet and called Donna anyway. So there’s a part of her that does want her there (she could have tried doing it on her own if she really didn’t want Donna. Call an ambulance and get a message to Pete eventually - it’s a horrible alternative. But it’s there). And Donna showed up, flaws and all, trying. So for Sugar to continue to berate her when she’s showing up and trying to work through her issues, is a bit tough to watch. So agree to disagree on this one, I suppose.

@@PhilipManzanoI think for once in her 30 something years she finally expressed her true feelings to her mother. She stated she puts everyone needs before her own. Also She’s in labor, you aren’t the nicest during that experience

@@PhilipManzanoI totally get what you're saying. I appreciate you elaborating further on how this episode made you feel.

@@PhilipManzano I mean, OBVIOUSLY she wants her there on a deeper level. That’s her mother. That doesn’t mean she can’t feel hesitant or avoidant to the idea of it given everything that’s happened on her life ever regarding her mom? Yes it’s amazing that she’s trying and you can see Natalie sees that and appreciates it but trying to get better doesn’t erase all the damage you’ve done and even Donna understands that and doesn’t give Nat shit for it. Baby steps bro.
