Our EPIC FAIL with Forclaz Tropic 500 Hammock from Decathlon | What did we do wrong??

In today's video we are going to review a rather unusual piece of gear for us. This is our first review of this type, and we don't have any experience using similar sleeping systems. It is going to be a Forclaz Tropic 500 Hammock from Decathlon. We've never slept in a hammock and have no idea how to properly set up one; this is all new to us. However, we've received quite a few comments about hammocks, and we know that some people really love this system and prefer a hammock over a traditional tent. That's why we've always been very interested in trying out a hammock ourselves and trying to find all the pros and cons of this construction. So we think this will be an interesting review and we'll try to make it as informative as possible.

Пользуюсь этим гамаком уже больше года. Сплю обычно сильно поджав ноги на боку. Но правильно спать в гамаке на спине, нужно просто расслабиться и почувствовать некую невесомость, потому что гамак даёт поддержку в максимальном количестве точек и должен создавать эффект парения. Лично для меня его главная проблема это то что в нём холодно спать и по сути его можно использовать только летом и только в лесу. Я использую его вместе вместе с другими палатками. Зачастую на кемпинг беру и то и то. Пару раз была ситуация что я ложился чуть отдохнуть перед сном и засыпал до утра. Также в гамаке очень легко можно выспаться днём. Потому что он максимально продувается, в нём не жарко, и когда уставший ложишься на спину можно моментально вырубиться. И это для меня пожалуй единственный способ поспать на природе часик днём. Также в нём можно лежать и параллельно болтать с друзьями которые сидят у костра рядом. Пока не заснёшь. Также дети очень любят в нём резвиться. Также он даёт возможность заснуть под звёздами если местность того позволяет. В общем много плюсов, гамак должен иметь каждый треккер или просто кемпер. Это не основной способ ночёвки, ну просто как дополнительный.

Спасибо что поделились вашим опытом, это очень ценно. Мы еще мало выходов делали с ним и поначалу очень непривычно именно это ощущение невесомости, кажется, что конструкция ненадежна и вот-вот оборвется:) Но мы признаем что при правильном использовании для гамака можно найти много применений как вы упомянули. Нужно будет дать ему второй шанс.

I use quechua comfort and my own net cause it’s wider and I can sleep diagonally reducing the rocking of hammock. Also in the end it’s visible that You didn’t hang it at the same height on both sides and it will greatly reduce comfort! If You want to have the head higher just use some pillow. Hope that helps

These are some great tips! We've heard that sleeping diagonally should help quite a lot. And yes, we did struggle a lot to set it up right, making it equal on both sides. But we guess it is all trial and error especially when you are using piece of gear for the first time. So should give it another go perhaps and experiment more, we are just so used to the tents.

You have to attach it higher and the same height on both side. plus you have put put your body diagonally not through the axis of the hammock

Mist be set up with lines at 30 degrees and foot end about 20cm higher than head end. Once set up correctly is most comfortable sleep possible. Did your mummy not rock you to sleep?

Thanks for the great tips, have to try it out the next time! Someone told us that we need to level up the ends, but we guess we need to try to set it up in different ways to see what works. We are used to the tents and this was our first hammock experience.

It might just be me, but maybe learn how to properly use a hammock before doing hammock reviews. Doing this won't bias the product with your qualifications.
