My apartment was 40 degrees. It was cold but my husband and I had enough blankets thankfully. Our cat and dog snuggled with us to stay warm. We kinda made a fort with the blankets to stay warm. Glad y’all are ok. Much love

Just think, years from now, your kids will be learning about Snovid 19 in history class and you’ll be able to show them this video. Glad you guys didn’t have to endure the cold for a long long time. I live just south of Dallas but was blessed like Destiny’s parents to never lose power or have any water interruption. So I spent a lot of time praying. My daughter who lives in Southeast Austin, however, lost heat on Sunday because the propane tank cracked and trucks wouldn’t/couldn’t make it into their neighborhood to repair and refill. Their power went off Monday morning at 8:45 and didn’t come back on until Thursday around noon. On Tuesday they tried to fill the truck up with gas only to find al local gas stations empty and closed. So they were left to be like millions of other Texans and hunker down. They had friends that were police officers who had big suvs that bought them fruit, snacks, water and warm soup. I’m very proud to say that in the midst of their own struggles, they assisted neighbors with water leaks and took food to an elderly abandoned and left alone. They remained calm, strong, and positive throughout. Mitch, I know what you mean about feeling connected. Their is a certain type of bonding that results from this sort of catastrophe. Thanks again for sharing your story.

I live in Dallas and it was horrible. It was so cold and people died. I never lost power or water but my home phone and internet were down and only came up today. The state of Texas wasn't built for cold weather and we will never forget this space in time. So glad you made it through. I was running out of food because I shop from week to week and only had carbs and water. They were telling us to conserve energy and leave your temps at 68 or below and boil your water. It was almost like living in a refugee camp or something. I pray we never go through that again but I have bought a portable charger and more candles and blankets. Also, stored up on soup and crackers and chili and simple items to save for times like those.

New subscriber here! . . . I was born, raised and still live in Minnesota. I'm also in my 70's now and have pretty much seen and been through all that winter could throw my way. In all that time there has been the occasional power outage during minus 40+ degree days and nights, but never for very long, so I can only imagine how scary it must have been for you guys not knowing if/when power would be restored in the Lone Star state. I kept tabs on the situation down there daily -- as I'm sure the rest of the country did -- and am happy you made it through your ordeal safe, sound and basically unscathed. Unfortunately, some souls down there weren't so fortunate, and that's always sad. Chin up though, summer's on the way. And as you both know, when the temps gets into the 40's here, it's sweater weather!

I'm glad you guys made it through. Our experience was almost similar. I've lived in the Midwest and on the east coast for most of my life. Of course, snow storms are normal. However, we've never lost power or water after a snow storm. This was the worst, so many busted pipes. My electricity and water was off. My electricity came back on Thursday. My water finally came back on Sunday evening. Luckily, I was invited to stay with a friend's grandma. I stayed with her from Sunday to Sunday.

My daughter in college apartment water was turned off for nearly the entire time. Her power was off consistently only coming on briefly twice for an hour once and for like 15 mins the 2and or 3rd time (In Huntsville). As for myself our lights never went out. Our pipes froze though in several rooms of our house. Thank God the pipes did not burst! We had a boil notice for our water in Ft. WORTH and had to replace my car battery. Something else how everyone's experience is different. A good friend of mines lights went out like clockwork every night then returned early in the morning just outside of Denton.

Hey Mitch and Destiny. I grew up in Illinois and get what you mean about the state being winterized and not having power outages from the winter weather. I live in the Aubrey area and my house is a block from a middle school so we didn't have an outage but, the pipes in our kitchen froze. We were having to fill pots in the bathroom to wash the dishes and we couldn't use our dishwasher til I think Sunday. We had no water pressure in our house so the toilets had to be manually filled to flush. Our water wouldn't get hot except at 4am, so we couldn't take showers unless we wanted to freeze. Oh and the internet went out so we had no wi-fi and it finally got fixed today. I'm overjoyed we didnt lose power but the heat didn't seem to be wanting to get very warm and it was freezing for most of the week. Overall it was a VERY interesting experience. Glad you two made it safely through.

Good that you are OK. But sadly the outages in TX and in CA both could have been and should have been avoided. United States of 2021 is infested by Third World level of corruption. And corruption leads to incompetence - power outages, bridges falling (MN 2007), airplanes falling, doctors harming patients, etc. You are young, it is your country to preserve or to lose. And try to visit some healthy countries like Japan, Switzerland, Singapore - I bet you would see my point.
@Matt-kr9bo3 жыл бұрын
The US has problems, but the countries you listed as healthy do as well. Their issues are just less known because they aren’t under the international spotlight like the US is. Switzerland’s banking sector is one of the most popular destinations for money-laundering in the world. It has been described as a money-laundering paradise. Japan appoints retired government officials to top positions in Japanese companies, even if they have zero experience. Japan has also been criticized for having extensive foreign bribery issues. Singapore has harsh punishments like caning for crimes like distributing drugs (which can include smoking weed with friends). Those who have been caned have faced erectile dysfunction, bowel issues, extensive scarring/mutilation, and many other issues. Possession of 500g of drugs gets you hanged. Yes, these countries are less corrupt and problematic than the US in many ways, but the US is a healthier country in many other ways. You also have to take into account that the US is a much larger country. In Japan, Switzerland, and especially Singapore, the government only has to worry about a population contained within a small area. The US has a lot more open space. Every country has issues and problems. Even with all of its problems, the US is a great place to live.
@cernejr3 жыл бұрын
@@Matt-kr9bo Hello Matt, thank for your articulate response. While you are making some good points, they do not change the overall picture for me. I still believe that Japan/SG/Switzerland are likely to exist and be prosperous 50y from now (unless Japan is conquered by China). Not the US - this country is heading towards becoming like Venezuela/Cuba. Or worse. IMO the root cause is dramatic decline in the quality of US population since about 1955/1960 due to unwise family and immigration policies. We will not convince each other here, this is a big topic. I repeat my advice to travel/read and form one's own opinion.
