Stroll was within DRS range and any small mistake from Tsunoda would have given 9th place to Aston-Martin. Consequently, he was correct to ignore team orders and race Tsunoda to the finish line. Even Alonso acknowledged that Lance did the correct thing and said, “It was one point for the team . It doesn’t matter which car takes that point. And I think he was trying until the last corner. Dont know how you can give Tsunoda a 9 and Danny Ric a 7. When both cars were on same tyre and only lap different age over final 30 laps car 3 was 0.3sec per quicker. Sorry I like Tsunoda but Daniel was quicker than his teamate in Quali and in race pace. The only difference was VCARB forgetting what tyres they had on car 3 and coming up with an insane strategy.
@carbis378
@carbis378 2 ай бұрын
To add to your point of the fair comparison being when they both went onto the same tyres one lap apart - the difference is even greater when you only look at the laps when both drivers were in clean air; with Daniel lapping between 0.5 & 1.5 seconds faster than Yuki. It's a real shame for VCARB to allow that strategy call to take place and ruin Daniel's chances of points during such an important moment in his career. Especially when many of the investors don't often look at the reasons behind certain performances, instead choosing to just look at the points total and make assumptions from that alone.

Yeah, I am a bit shocked some times at how biased the F1 community is! Max had a solid qualifying session, but the race was probably a 5/10 at best for him if not worse. Let’s not forget that he still drives the second fastest car, or what perhaps even seemed like the fastest car for some stages of the race, and still got beaten by Hamilton and Leclerc in significantly slower cars due to his own silly mistakes. And he definitely should have gotten a 5 second penalty for his crash with Hamilton, which would’ve dropped him to P6 if I’m not mistaken, which is only ONE place ahead of his teammate. And keep in mind that Perez started the race from 16th! Not a good race for him!

IMO Verstappen doesn't deserve a better score than Perez, he absolutely should have finished 3rd if he didn't throw his toys out of the pram and just kept his head down - RB wasn't the fastest this time, no chance to catch, pass or even stay ahead of the McLaren if he had ever managed to get there IMO. But he was definitely fast enough to actually pass Hamliton on track before the end... At least if he knew how to race a near rival in car performance wheel to wheel without crashing into them - and that ongoing failure to accept any blame at all, to then contemplate, study the events and learn means he has a complete lack of racecraft, and no prospect of ever getting any - that to me tanks his score hugely, if anything seeing Crashtappen come back so often already this season would put him at a zero for this race from me... The greats like Hamilton and Alonso make some mistakes, push a rule too far etc and learn from it - Max refuses to play by the same rules as everyone else...
@venorando3672
@venorando3672 2 ай бұрын
What I find so frustrating about Max is that he has a tendancy of repeating the same mistakes over and over again. I don’t think it’s a lack of ability. More so a problem with him having the wrong mentality in certain situations.

@@venorando3672 Precisely, IMO the way he was behaving in 21 and every time he has had a real rival since he should have earned a few race bans so he might just learn, as RB disciplining their primidona #1 never seems to happen... They have been a terrible team to really nurture and develop rookies properly through their entire history as a team IMO. So for that reason of not even trying to learn every time he repeats the same mistakes in the same way he should score zero, as that is what he is compared to his potential (which clearly is up there with the better drivers, maybe even really WDC win worthy). Mistakes will happen, even the best wheel to wheel folks like Alonso will occasionally make the same mistake twice, but they always very clearly try to learn from it, and at least accept their share fault...

I feel like the “Lance ignoring team orders” things needs some context. By managing his soft tires superbly he gave himself a late tire advantage, so it only made sense to go after the only 1-stop driver of the race in Yuki. Alonso still has twice the points & he himself acknowledged that Lance’s decision made sense. Now if it was for more than a single point it’s a different story.

Interesting perceptions. Yuki lauded 9 by M&T, 8 by fans. Ricciardo pilloried. Ricciardo 6th FP3 Yuki 9th, FP2 Ric 8th Yuki 19th. Q1 Ric P1. Q3 VCarb put them both out on used softs for the first run in changeable conditions (?) so only 9th and 10th. Second run on new softs both were green in all mini sectors bar one when Yuki went off ruining Daniels lap. After mess cleaned up track worse and no one EXCEPT Ricciardo improved. He would have been on for better than P9 qualy if Yuki had not crashed. At race start both Dan&Yuki on medium got jumped by Albon and Mag on softs. Once those 2 came in Dan quickly gaped Yuki and made up 0.8 on Stroll in front in the one lap of clean air before they told him to box. They then sent him out into a DRS train lead by Alonso who remember had no trouble holding up a 7 time WDC in a much faster car in 2021 on this very track and appeared to have been instructed to back up the field for Stroll. Albon radioed Alonso was going so slow. To add insult they continually berated him on the radio for not passing the others. Everyone lauded Yuki for going 40 laps on hards. VCarb made Ric do 41. From lap 30 to lap 60 Ricciardo pick up about 8 seconds on Yuki on 1 lap older hards. In the middle he was lapping as fast as the leaders. Yuki ran virtually all of the race in clean air. DR had some traffic and in the 10 last laps got blue flagged as the leaders came through and dropped back. It was telling the different receptions from VCarb on radio. "Yuki you were phenomenal" Danny silence. Ricciardo had the speed all W/E to do well. The RB was good at slow corner tracks, DR has won before on that track. His career is on the line. He surely would have finished ahead of Russel and maybe Checo (and even Sainz ?) if not for that completely moronic pit stop strategy. You put your life/career on the line all W/E only to be shafted by somebody at VCarb who clearly should not be there.

In the end, they're not going to look at every lap of every driver and every decision their team has made. That's just not feasible. These ratings are based mostly on results and vibes. In this case, ignore what they say and try viewing Danny's grade not as his own performance, but as the luck he had in terms of the circumstances and things will start to make more sense. The coverage didn't really show him at all and info on his race was sparse to non-existant. Always take these ratings with a pinch of salt since they cannot include every detail. Also, I'd argue that positions in FP and Q1/Q2 don't matter as long as you make it to the next session and manage to keep it out of the barriers. Free Practice is not a competitive session and its results can often trigger false conclusions.

If this is supposed to be purely driver ratings without factoring in team orders or strategy, Oscar and Lando should both have the same rating. They both qualified well and they both had similar race pace, Oscar a bit faster earlier in clean air and Lando quicker when he was in clean air. Oscar's only mistake was putting a wheel in the gravel a couple of times, Lando's only mistake would be the start (if you can call that a mistake). Similarly, I don't think the VCARB drivers should have different ratings. There was very little between them in qualifying (other than the crash of course but that didn't rally effect the result) and had VCARB not let the high school student on work experience decide Ricciardo's strategy it is very likely that they would have finished 9th and 10th. Unfortunately we don't know if DR could have made a one stop strategy work but even on a two stop strategy running longer on the mediums he probably would have ended up just in front of or behind Yuki.

Yes, Perez had to recover from another crash in quali, but if we judge the race, which you guys keep saying is what matters the most, then he kept his nose clean and finished as high as he possibly could have given his abhorrent qualifying. Meanwhile, Max qualified well and yes the team botched the strategy, but he could and should have finished P3 either way. The only reason he's P5 is because he, quite frankly, got impatient. He gets a 9 for everything else, but i wouldnt say it was "Perfect", he should have at the very least caught up to Norris but he couldn't. And with Lewis it's the total opposite, he really maximized everything he could in the race, Red Bull was definitely faster(Max started to catch up to Lando the second he got some clean air) but he made a great defense, his start was so good to the point that he was actually ahead of Norris until Max decided he had enough of the green side and joined the track. He really couldn't have done more. Speaking of Max, he really had the worst race of his in at least 3 seasons, i'm shocked that you guys gave him a 7? The lap 1 behaviour, constant whining on the track, and more importantly throwing a nearly definite p3 out to lose patience and divebomb into Lewis was crazy. Lando had a glitch with finding second gear causing him to lose a lot speed when he got the 2nd gear. Also mclaren said from the start of the race that after lap 40 there was no racing between them.

This is arguably LH worse season in terms of form and consistency in Quali, it's felt like George has outperformed that Merc on several occasions and has been arguably a top 3-4 driver on the grid this year yet Ham is 9pts ahead despite being outqualified 10-3 in favour of Russ. Let that sink in lol That honestly says a lot about Hams racing. If he didn't have such poor qualifying this year, I honestly think he would be fighting for that 3rd place in the championship.

Driver ratings is honestly my favorite p1 segment, but I feel like there should be decimal points. For example Tommy gave kmag a 5 and had good reasoning and then gave Nico a 6 with the reasoning that he did better than his teammate so he cant have the same grade. Allowing Nico to have a 5.5 makes the grading more accurate imo. And then Matt and Tommy will also disagree more which is always fun

People who (for some reason) point out that Oscar wasn't gaining on Lando in the third stint need to explain why he would chew up his tyres chasing and then driving in the dirty air when he was told Lando would concede the place? What's the benefit in doing that? Is that good racing? What happens if there was a pace car and he's left on shagged tyres chasing a team mate he didn't have to? Ridiculous.

Giving Lando a 9, when if it Oscar wasn't his teammate, he would have ran off with it at the end, is OUTRAGEOUS. I get he got done on the start, but this is meant to be a measurement of their performance, not their results, surely? He nailed Saturday (taking pole with ONE run, compared to Piastri and Max who had to get two in just to close than 0.250 second gap), and although he mucked up at the start, when McLaren gave him a chance to take the lead and win, he absolutely nailed it. On older tyres, being emotionally blackmailed, distracted 24/7 throughout the laps and STILL lapping upto 5 tenths a lap quicker than Oscar and ended up mugging him by 8 seconds with all that shit going on. Imo both McLaren drivers deserve a 10. Bcs realistically, if they weren't teammates, they both drove perfect races. But McLaren fucked their performances up by messing with strategy.

Lando didn't even muck up the start, it was a car issue. His launch was amazing (Mclaren have confirmed that there was a car glitch)

Yea thats true but then he defended oscar way to much and left the door open for max which then lead to that whole swap stuff making lando losss more time. And Oscar was just better for most the race besides at the end with can argue he was managing more.@MarkDavison-mk9bp

Lando was 4 seconds behind Oscar before the pit stops. Then Oscar went wide. Lando closed up to 1.5 seconds. Then the undercut happened.

How did Tsunoda get such a high rating after crashing in quali, yet Perez did the same but scored good points for the team in the race? Either Tsunoda should have a lower score, or Perez a slightyl higher one. P.S. not a Perez fan, just keeping it fair.

With regards to Norris's start in Hungary, his car had a fault that meant when he tried to go into second, he lost a ton of revs Yes, recently he's had a few poor starts, but this one wasn't his fault

How can Oscar get a 10 when he went in the gravel 3 times in the race (2 real, 1 touch). Nobody seems to remember this, its why Lando caught him so fast. I really like Oscar but it should've been a Lando win.
