Yes Yuki greatly benefited from the pit stop (which actually was mediocre but the other teams were really slow lol) but the team also screwed him with the tyre strategy and set up (the bad start wasn’t his fault, both drivers clearly had a bad setup) and also consequent strategy was also bad allowing undercuts. He ultimately did the best he could on the circuit including some key overtakes, really managing his tyres very well, so he did maximize the performance. He also qualified P10 by his own merit. I really respect the analysis you guys give, but I think its a bit hard on Sainz, Bottas, Perez, and Ricciardo this time round. I think the Sainz one is really obvious, he could easily be given a 10 for that drive. I don't think that Ferrari would have achieved better than 3rd unless the RB's had issues. Perez finishing second to Max is the best he is ever going to do. His race was clean and he did really well in Quali and the FP's. Making a criteria that he must beat Max to get a 10 is insane, that RB is tuned in to Max and Max can drive the wheels off it. DR might have moved to make space for Stroll and I don't dispute that caused the prang but the FIA Stewards declared it a lap one incident and recorded no penalty. So in my mind lap one incidents shouldn't be penalised in the rankings either. It would have been better to give him and Albon no score and exclude this race for them both. Bottas is driving that Stake the best anyone could I think and he keeps getting screwed by these pit stops or mechanical issues. The car is clearly horrible and it sort of feels like the ranking punishes the driver for a bad car or a team mistake. There should be a way for a driver in a horrible car to get an 8 or a 9.

He qualified 11th and missed out on 10th by like 0.055 or something. Did that only having 2 practice sessions, one of those was wet. Now, I have only ever done professional karting in my life but even in those the starts are super hectic with karts weaving all over the track and we don't have rear view mirrors. I can safely say on a left turn with an Aston in my left mirror and the short burst from turn 1 to 2 I can forgive someone for not expecting anyone to try and pull alongside around the outside and giving myself the best chance of a good turn 2 exit. Albon was NEVER going to pull alongside evenly so sitting on the outside with only his front wheels up to less than half way of DR's car was a case of "outside suicide" in this case. There's a reason no-one got a penalty. As clear a case of racing incident as I've seen one. DR should not get points off for that. His qualifying was good and better than I've ever seen Logan produce. And Logan did spin all by himself.

He was catching Yuki for the first 15 or something laps and then they dropped off like a cliff the last laps. The call to put softs on was to me a gamble for Aston to somehow get passed tsunonda since they lacked straight line speed due to the setup made. He could easily have stayed on the hards which they put on at the same time as Yuki and secure p11. He was the only driver to do a 3 stopper and was essentially stuck behind yuki for the majority of the race. Had he had clean air or gotten passed yuki through strategy he would most likely gotten p10. To me the most mistakes were made before the race in qualifying and in the setup. For me it's more like a 4 or 5 in rating but not sure if he could have done much more differently on race day.

I think the grading for Sargeant is extremely harsh. He was literally with Bottas. He was right there with Bottas as the 5 car pit battle came and he came out behind Bottas. If you mention how much Bottas got screewed over by Kick pitstop, you have to mention how Sargeant got screwed over in exactly the same way. Otherwise you are either biased or ignorant. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he has done enough to get a 3rd season, but if you want to pretend to be anything close to journalists, or that your reviews are meant to be taken seriously, you have to apply common sense and put away your bias.

The pitstop issues for Kick I thought were well documented???????? It's an issue with the wheel nuts expanding as they heat up. It's a problem with the design, not the pitstop of the crew themselves. There's a flaw in the design of the car and the nuts / heat, so nothing you can just fix instantly. They're getting too much heat.

Why is everyone raving on about Tsunoda? In qualifying he is superb, no doubt there, and he certainly got a great result in Melbourne but the point in Suzuka was thanks to the great work of his pit crew to win back the three positions he lost on track. If you look at fastest race laps, in Bahrain he only beat Bottas and Ocon, In Jeddah, he was basically slowest, Melbourne was pretty good and Suzuka was just ok. Logan Sargeant has actually had a better fastest lap than Yuki in each of the three races they have both started. If you look at qualifying to race result in Bahrain he lost places to Stroll, Zhou and K Mag (I won't count Ricciardo) and only gained over Hulk. In Jeddah he outqualified but finished behind Bearman, Hulk, Albon, K Mag, Ocon and Sargeant. Melbourne he was only overtaken by Stroll in the race but in Suzuka he was only saved from being passed by K Mag, Bottas and Sargeant by the great pit stop. So overall, in three out of four races so far he has actually gone backwards when racing out on track, where it matters most. But even in qualifying, if we accept that the RB is the 6th fastest car he is basically where he is expected to be. He outqualified Hamilton and Alonso in Melbourne but other than that has only beaten Stroll - Bearman doesn't really count in those circumstances. I think this is more a case of Daniel Ricciardo underperforming.
@dodgemf19 ай бұрын
You've nailed it, been saying it's all hype for Yuki and it's unwarranted. I watched him battle Bottas and Sargeant on Sunday and he struggled whilst Bottas was flying. Melbourne result required 4 drivers ahead to either DNF or get a penalty. Similar to 2023. Hardly a result whichTsunoda had any influence.

It's social media and those who comment about F1 are largely kids who use their emotions rather then their brains. Yuki is flavour of the month; last season it was Piastri. @@JMRope Well I think it's fair to say that unless Danny ups his game, there's the strong possibility that Lawson will get the seat. It's going to be interesting to see if Yuki can keep this level for the season. If he's not in a Red Bull or strong team within the next year or so, he's going to be another "born for the midfield" driver which is what I think he is. He only got 3rd in his final F2 season and largely got the seat due to the Honda/Japan conection.
@JMRope9 ай бұрын
@@JC-lu4se I agree. If Daniel can't pick himself up not only has he lost the chance to go back to Red Bull he will be out of F1 completely. He was also third but a very long way off Drugovich where as Yuki was closer to Schumacher. And Lawson didn't win a single feature race in F2, only sprints. That said I still think Lawson would do better in F1.

Imo, that attempted overtake from George on Oscar and the battle that followed was good and fair racing. F1 isn’t meant to be easy with effortless overtakes. It should be the best drivers in the world doing whatever they can within the rules to win. And I’d rather a driver who was ruthless and wasn’t afraid to take a chance when the opportunity was there (and it was there). George showed that he has no fear. And sometimes it won’t work, obviously. But that fearlessness is going to be rewarding in long-run.

I've been saying this since his McLaren days vs Button...Hamilton is a great driver but he's a lot less great in a difficult car. He's not an Alonso type driver who seems to thrive when a car is bad; it brings out a fire in Fernando. With Lewis on the other hand, he tends to let it get in his head and his level drops relative to his teammate. Button was more consistent than him in some tricky McLaren cars and so far George is doing similar things with a god awful Mercedes. My hack theory is when you come into the sport driving dream machines, as Lewis did, perhaps you don't develop the tools you need to deal with rubbish.

@@Sub-ko7kp the car was pretty good last year. But when the car was rubbish in '22 and now in '24 George has the edge. It's exactly the same pattern as Ham vs Button at McLaren. Schumacher and Vettel were very similar in that regard, so Lewis is in pretty excellent company.

Ricciardo getting, on average, a better rating than Sargeant is downright laughable. He got outqualified by his teammate yet again, fell from 11th into the clutches of Albon and Stroll off the start, and was so busy looking at the distant Stroll and the next corner that he neglected to think that there could be a WHOLE-ASS CAR next to his other side after he did nothing but hemorrhage position and pace from the start. His negligent driving ended two races after just 2 corners. Hand-wringing about the accident Ricciardo caused by saying that it was just "first lap things" or that it was "risky" for Albon to come alongside there is just pathetic apologism. Sargeant, on the other hand, had a decent race going until his off. He recovered and brought the car home safely. He was never going to challenge for points, and at this point nobody will be surprised if he gets replaced mid-season. If these ratings are based around expected versus actual performance, how does this shake out then? We all know Sargeant is utter crap. He had a decent drive until he did what he normally does. Ricciardo, despite being on the decline, is a seasoned veteran of the sport, a multi-time race winner, a former title contender, and is probably somewhere on the list of potential takers for the 2nd RBR seat. This then is decidedly not the kind of performance he should be having. Love the show, see you next time out ♥

Likewise, someone who's been watching 30 years should be able to identify that Sargeant actually had a very good race, he had good pace and his tyre management was on point. He was shuffled back down the order because of Williams' poor pitstop and bad strategy.
