Honestly, there weren't many there, which isn't a bad thing. The question is why do so many overlook this awesome part of the country?

Okay. Let's talk about Karen Villages (Long Neck Villages) in Thailand and why we decided to visit this one. In Huay Pu Keng, the community consists of Kayan, an ethnic group who escaped from Myanmar and fled to Northern Thailand. There are three different communities in Thailand, two of which tourists come to only take pictures of the Kayan. However, this village is trying something different that benefits the people living there. Huay Pu Keng adopted a "Community-Based Tourism" approach which means a few things. The most important factor is that the community is earning money that does not go back into the pockets of officials. They do this by offering their own tours run by locals, earning money through homestays, and putting on workshops so you can actually learn about the village. We thought this would be an opportunity to open up for discussion on whether this is a step in the right direction. We understand we'll get comments saying we should never have gone there in the first place, but the issue is deeper than just ending tourism in these villages. My partner and I did the loop back in 2019/2020. Loved Pai, loved having a powerful scooter to get around on with all our luggage, love your experiences and the drone shots! We saw almost all the same things. Happy travels! I’ve subscribed.

Haha I think the reason I handled it so well is because I'm used to breaking them. It's so easy to scratch the lens that I just pretty much assumed it was never going to make it through the trip. I love the angle it gives but it's kind of a pain to have to be extremely careful with it all the time. Thanks! I'm always like how much graphic work should I do that I really have time for and then I go down a rabbit hole and spend half the day working on just one 😅

A nice compilation of moments 🙂 The spot where you open the video is one of my regular stops when travelling to & from MHS. In 2007 my (now) wife and I stopped there and I took some photos of a young lady stallholder and her little son. On my next visit I gave her a couple of A4 prints, and thus began a regular cycle of photo taking for several of the families for the following years. We still stop and chat. And well done on the walk from your accommodation down to the lake and back - that's a fair old trek after a day riding.
