Hope you all enjoyed this video! Let us know should we give classic another shot or would retail be a better fit for us?

Retail is a quicker experience to get to the latest content but can still be a time sink. Although it does have a lot of quality-of-life updates add on are still required to play the game essentially

Yeah I guess all MMO games have that in common. We did give retail a go yesterday and I will say we had a lot more fun. Thanks for the heads what kind of add ons are essential?

retail and classic both have their appeals but honestly I can see why playing classic for someone with no prior wow xp "or not being there when it was current" can be overwhelming "time wise", I've played both and have love for both as they both have their own draws however for someone with less time retail is a great idea!

I think its hard when we don't have the nostalgia drive a lot of people have. We find we liked the world but quests do overstay there welcome and get very repetitive. We tried out retail yesterday and enjoyed it much more so far.

You got way too many addons recommended for a start. I've played the game enough to look for what I want for the UI, but a couple looking to have fun and create content with a new... very old game do not need too many QoL addons to create a story. Part of the fun with the radically different stories based on the race you pick comes from building off Warcraft 3. Getting to be a soldier in a game that used to be about managing small armies was so fun. I feel people who say retail is easier to get into may be blinded by how used they are to WoW. Retail leveling is easier, but any attempt to get invested is hampered by tons of narration dumps and a ton of abilities and mechanics quickly dumped on you. Especially if you use a boosted character to jump into current content. It feels like systems are designed to keep people who played WoW rather than attract new players. I started around the end of the 4th expansion, and I would have never kept playing if I hadn't already had a love of Warcraft and knew people who understood the game and learned from other players in game willing to help.

I see maybe we needed to tone the addons down. I totally agree with you about the starting stories and the law. That was one of the things we loved the most about the game. We just got a bit bogged down by the levelling process and style of gameplay. It got to a point we weren't looking forward to playing it with our limited after work time. We plan to do a video on retail WoW so we will see how it stacks up. Maybe retail wont be for us either and the search for a new MMO will continue! Thanks for all the info.

@Wandering_Wisps There is no limit to how many addons, but understanding which addons are doing what is important. Do not willy nilly install them. Questie is "essential", you can do without but takes your experience to reading and knowing everything. Basically get ready to search on Google; There are a few that are similar inwhich gives you more data, which are useful but depends on how far you want to go with that and some are less useful. Other addons are more for cosmetic, dress the game how you want it to look. (Thier are ones that "update" the look but keeps the classic feel) More detail, the more informed you'll be which can inturn make you a better player I would strongly recommend just looking at few top 10 videos to see what most are using, install the ones you like and continue on. Later you can find more as you journey threw the game. There are addons/auras that aren't even used until end game so again, find them on the journey, don't worry about completely setting it up. Also HC isn't generally a casual first time play, pvp server will be infested with ganking in the next month or so. Unless you like PvP and don't mind the 60s running around killing you, my suggestion is just rolling PvE server. Retail, others have made the point, they have pros and cons but general conception is the notion of learning classic versus retail is alot easier. Mmos generally have alot to learn and classic allows you to learn in a slower and more practicable pace

Wow player since 2006, stopped playing regularly after MOP. Play classic.

Hi both 👋 as a veteran wow player, if you want a lasting and rewarding experience with real wow essence, stay in classic. It's a grind no doubt, but very rewarding. Retail is fast paced and simple, I wouldn't even call it wow as I know it. Merry Christmas to you two!

Thanks for the feedback John. I think the grind was getting to us a little which is a shame because we really wanted to like it. I'm just not sure the game play is the right fit for us. I almost just want to watch someone else play the whole game XD
