Get yourself a generator. Solar will not keep up if you need to run the aircon. There is nothing wrong with running a generator, especially if you are camping with no other bugger around.

When camping on sand the best and easiest way to level your caravan rather than using wheel chocks is to dig a slight hole in the sand on the side that needs to go down and drive into it, also caravan won't move.

You need to have tha aircon on like 21 from the morning and have it on constantly. You cant beat the heat when its already hot. And your making less solar power because its so hot the panels are dropping efficiency

I think we need more solar on the roof man cheers for the heads up we will keep that in mind bro how are you?
@DarrenBoxhall
@DarrenBoxhall 4 ай бұрын
Yeah good mate. Just remember your solar controller will have a limit of how much power you can put on and take advantage of. So before you spend a bunch on panels, make sure you check. You might only be able to really take advantage of 1 more panel ect. Even though, more panels work good for low light conditions too. My mate has a big van and he drives with the aircon in the van on so it's constantly cold, and the solar/car keeps the battery full. Then when you get to camp the van is already cool and the a/C just ticks along keeping it that temp, rather than being on flat stick for hours trying to cool a hot van down

Awesome guys, a real Aussie family non sponsored. Maybe charging down due to dirty solar panels. Don't introduce water into a hot environment it makes it more humid and the air-conditioning work harder. Air-conditioning sucks the moisture out. Edit just a thought? Maybe do a lap of each state territory? Returning home saving and going again?Obviously money is the key

You could get a misting system for your caravan shade I use to have one and it makes a difference. If there is a slight gust of wind on a 40 degree day it will send shivers down your spine. Best and first mod to be done on any caravan. You can buy a kit from Bunnings for $30. Than you bolt it on to your caravan just under the awning/shade.

G’DAY guy’s i have travelled around Australia in my caravan and car similar to you set up but to avoid the caravan poping off the tow ball. Do the pin so slid the pin off the ball and then get your Jack and wind your van off. And with the power get your self a westing house 240v generator it works great as well as a kings solar blanket. Do take me the wrong way I am not a keyboard warrior I am just giving advice as I have travelled for 3 years and for your legs do them up untill you think you van is stable so you can jump up and Dan in you can and it doesn’t shake and for a fan use a Milwaukee fan
@brettbarrett7670
@brettbarrett7670 4 ай бұрын
The van kicking off the tow hitch is a result of a dual axle and the van's tyres being stretched as a result of being in a turn (instead of straight ahead/back) when you pulled up onto the beach - the pivot point for turning is in between each contact patch of each tyre group (not an issue on a single axle van) Watch from the rear a big truck when they turn, the tyres squirm and distort as they fight against steering and traction, storing considerable energy. While it isnt always possible, trying to hitch/unhitch in a straight line allows that energy to be released through the vans movements in getting to straight with the vehicle. You got lucky that time, its when you back up too much and the hitch smashes into the vehicle (or your leg) and puts a lot of strain on the jockey wheel/jack. Travel safe.

Id recommend getting a small gene for places like where you are at free camps can have gene on during the day just not at night. What solar system/ battery system are you running?

Get a anti flap kit it helps your arning not flap around it the wind and in storms its stays together trust me I have seen it first hand ow anti flap kit svived 70km hr winds 3. Riobi misting fan that's a game changer I see you got the drill it uses the same battery's and you can get the blower or vacuum to keep the van and car clean

@@thatfalzonfamily My family and myself have been travelling around Australia full time for a year and a half with no end in sight. On day 7 of our travels we were in Coober Pedy, there was pretty much no breeze and I had my awning set up the same as you did in the video. Nek minute! One big gust of wind came through, flipped my awning over my roof, snapped the arms in pieces, snapped my tv aerial, dented up my aircon and put scratches and little dent up the side of my van. The insurance ended up paying 13k to fix all the damage and were couldn’t get it fixed until we got to a major town and had to spend 2 weeks in a cabin while being repaired. I got the anti flap kit and curved roof rafters from BCF, watched a you tube video on how to fit it which took me about 30 minutes. Now the awning is rock solid and laps up the wind and rain no problem. It takes about 5 minutes longer to put your awning out but they work a treat 👊🏼

@shanonedser1
@shanonedser1 4 ай бұрын
Cleaning them will make a big difference. I would also recommend that you guys get a small inverter generator for days when your solar is struggling which it will do sometimes even with extra solar panels. The inverter part basically means it’s really quiet because it doesn’t have to rev all the time in ‘Eco mode’ and they use very little fuel for this reason too. You can usually find a good second hand Yamaha ef2000is or Honda eu2000i for about $800-$1k which would be my two top pics. I’ve had a secondhand ef2000is for a couple of years now and it’s been great. I have a Victron Multiplus 2 off grid power system with 6 KW of solar panels for my home although I live in suburban Brisbane. It’s virtually eliminated my power bills. You may well need to change some settings in your GX device on your Victron system because a portable generator is not quite as stable as the grid but after doing that myself I’ve got my Multiplus 2 to work off my ef2000is as a generator supply with no problem. Some Victron inverters can also assist a generator or limited grid supply when you need extra power for a short period ‘Power Assist’ (is what Victron call it) ie for running kitchen appliances and your aircon at the same time (or big power tools) which is awesome especially when using small generators. Btw on a hot day especially if your batteries don’t have cooling fans, the battery’s BMS (Battery Management System) may reduce or block charge completely to prevent battery damage, this may well be part of the reason that your solar panels weren’t producing much power to charge your batteries on a hot sunny day because the GX device will reduce the output of the solar charge controller if the BMS says the batteries are too hot. Hope this helps you😊
