Hey you two. I'm from Switzerland and just discovered your channel. in case you're still in the country and got some more train rides planned (else for your next trip here) : 1) if you get yourself an annual 'half fare pass' for 180 bucks each (www.sbb.ch/en/abos-billette/abonnemente/halbtax.html) , you get all federal and many private train tickets for half the price. for stuff like the jungfrau joch this can be very helpful. 2) scenic train rides like the glacier express use the same tracks as regular trains but often cost more. only difference being bigger windows. you can do most of them with a 70.- daily national train pass. enjoy your visit!

Grüezi I have some Travelhacks for you. If you do long train rides in Switzerland, go to any Local government there you can get a 1 Day ticket for everything. It costs 45-50 Dollar. If you stay longer in Switzerland you should get a half price Card. Its 165 Dollar for a Year. But you profit so much if you travel only 2 Weeks. Stay away from Zürich and other Tourist places. Its absurdly expensive, even for Locals. Buy Food in Supermarkets rather then go Eating in a Restaurant. You can drink from almost any Fountan or every Tap, the Water is amazing. Cheap Hotels are always outside of large Citys.
@MFYouTube6833 жыл бұрын
There‘d also a Tourist version of the GA (Generalabonnement / basically all of public transport is covered by it) which is what I recommend if you plan on visiting different areas. The French-speaking part for example is a 2-3 hour trainride from Zurich and with Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux being so close, 2,3 days to explore the shores of the vineyard-covered shores of Lake Léman and its culture and sites will give you an idea of the diversity our country offers. Careful though; the GA does not cover cable cars / gondolas and the uber touristy spots in the mountains are very pricy to get to, especially Jungfrau.

Regarding the direct democracy you must also remember, that the executive (the government) is by constitution a great coalition where all mayor political forces participate. This means that 80-90% of the parties in the legislature are also present in the executive. With other words there is no opposition to speak of, this role has been given to the people by the instruments of the legislative referendums and the constitutional initiatives. The legislative referendum means that if a law is passed in the parliament you can put it to a referendum if you can collect 50'000 signatures of voters within 100 days. You can also make a change of the constitution if your proposal receives 100'000 signatures, which have to be collected in 18 month.
@holger_p3 жыл бұрын
But about 80% of the referendums fail, and people get bored by to many votings. Participation is sometimes not high enough to be valid. Direct democracy is rally something for finding out preferences only. It's never about finding the best solution, rather it finds the simplest solution. Cause people do not vote, vor what they don't understand, if they don't understand a solution - they just do not consider it a solution.
@col85473 жыл бұрын
@@holger_p And for anyone who disagrees with you, just look at the Brexit Referendum in the UK and all the trouble it has caused. Less than 40% of eligible voters voted for it, totally crazy! Legally it was also only "advisory" but very few politicians dared do anything but implement it and then we ended up with a deal that almost nobody originally said they wanted. Obviously I write as an unhappy "Remoaner" as the Leavers call us!!

@@holger_p Many referendums fail because the parliament is forced to create good laws that most people will accept; the "threat" of a referendum disciplines the politicians. The Swiss are not bored by the votings; some issues just aren't of vested interest. There is no minimal quota or number of voters. Direct democracy is the best way to get accepted laws and rules. It may not be the right thing for people who have depended on (and still crave for) emperors, kings, dukes and führers.

I'm wondering why the Hiltl Restaurant isn't talked about more often on travel videos in Zürich, sure, many people aren't vegetarians, including me, but even i like to occasinally eat plant based stuff, especially since Migros ( one of the big national supermarkets) has some really good quorn stuff, I find the best vegetarian products to be the ones that don't try to imitate meat products excluding the Quorn Fish sticks from Migros, those taste like the real deal. But that aside, Hiltl is famous over here, not only because the food is good, but also since it's the worlds oldest vegetarian restaurant. Just the later fact makes me wonder why it does not get more spotlight on social media.

You're both Swedish? If I ran into you in the U.S., I honestly would think you were Americans based on how you talk and the figures of speech you use. Now I want to go visit Sweden because you're both so nice and I've heard so many great things about your country. Switzerland looks amazing also, by the way.

So glad you enjoyed your stay in my home city and were lucky with the wheater! That bubble tea shop is actually the place where I had my first one ever a few months ago, so that was unexpected :D And right next to it there is a waffle shop that I go to like every month...

Hi guys, loving your videos which I’ve just discovered! I’m so glad when you were in Zurich that you discovered the oldest vegetarian restaurant!! Isn’t it awesome, despite how expensive it is!! I’ve been to Zurich 3 times so far and absolutely love it. You’ll have to go back in autumn or early winter as it’s stunning then too. I actually have my own favourite room in a cute cosy hotel and the view from the window is the quintessential gorgeous village view. Did you get to go on a boat cruise? That’s something fun to do too. I took one that then included a hike up in the mountains with incredible views and was amazing! Happy travels guys. I live in Australia so I’m hoping to be able to get back to my passion of travel next year- missing it terribly! Stay safe!! Cheers, Marg

You should have gone and checked out Nordiska Roddföreningen on the other side of the lake - a Scandinavian rowing club, founded in 1878. And the club language is defacto Swedish. Poor Finns :) Also to take a swim from your hotel it would have been a lot closer to go to the river, where there are two free swimming facilities, complete with changing rooms etc (Obere Letten & Untere Letten)

Half-way through but I must share this: I love this video and I will make sure to check out the others. Came for Zurich, staying for Oskar and Dan. Btw. My sons name is Oskar so each time he complains that we gave him an old-fashioned name, I'll point in your direction. Thanks.

I've also been on vacation in Switzerland. Just don't look at the prices, otherwise you'll just ruin your vacation. You two have now been to so many countries, with very low prices, you have saved, now you can afford a few days in Switzerland.
