Philip dreamed of a place where he could build a self-sufficient life. A little piece of land where he could hunt, work the land, and build a home that he could be proud of. His dream began to become a reality when he purchased the first 40 acres of Kowalski Mountain in 2016.
I met Philip online in 2018. I grew up on a small, hobby farm. While I loved the outdoor lifestyle, I was stuck in my urban life far from my roots and the lifestyle I loved.
It's hard to deny that Philip and I were meant for each other. We make a great team! We seem to be able to accomplish more than the average couple in record time. Since our Kentucky dream is built in short workcations, our ability to get things done is a huge asset.
This is our journey, the victories, and the challenges.

Wow. The coincidences are staggering. I started a homestead in South Central Kentucky this summer, bought a flock of American Bresse (8 hens & Rambo the rooster) and started 22 eggs in the incubator last evening. I’ve been buying meat from this breed at the local farmers market and it is fantastic! Rambo is getting the job done as all five eggs I ate yesterday were fertilized. Hoping for the best. I built a chickshaw for the flock and I will build a coop coop for the adolescents and for those destined for freezer camp.

I’ve been considering American Bresse but they sell out from the hatcheries every time I try to order. I’ll be following to see how you like yours.

The hens look like Barbezieux breed, are you sure they are Breese?

I certainly hope so! That’s what I pays a breeder for.

@@Franky-id6wflooked them up and they have similar features. They are known to be a giant breed. These chickens are far from giant. She sold them because of the coloring was bleeding through.

I'm sure you've realized by now but those chickens are not Bresse. If they are they are hybrids, not purebred by any stretch of the imagination. I am sorry you were led on and - what I would consider scammed. My heart goes out to you friend.

They are Bresse… they were culled by a breeder for their imperfect coloring.
