Luckily, I live in a village where I hear the language spoken every day. But I think that a language learning App is a great idea for anyone not so lucky. Speaking of which, your battery failure was extremely lucky to occur before you left! I advise you to learn about your vehicle, inside and out. Learn how everything works, what goes wrong, what spares and tools to carry and how to fix it. If you can DIY you'll save time, money and hassle (as you proved with the water problem). Hey, maybe there's an App?

A health and safety instructor used to tell me that many accidents could have been prevented if people weren’t in such a rush and didn’t put off repairs that should have been addressed immediately. They used to say …. better to arrive late than dead on time! You got lucky with the water issue, I sincerely hope you don’t keep riding your luck especially we’re you’re going, it’s an unforgiving place. Don’t dismiss so much good advice as being negative comments. I wish you all the best with your adventure. Stay safe.

@@Phil.O.Sophical I'm confident that they are taking advice seriously and applying it in the best way for them. And good on people for taking the time to share their expertise. However, things happen unexpectedly even when when you think you have covered everything. My objection is to the comments that are condescending or downright rude. Not necessary.

Replacing a battery before you leave is probably a blessing. The water leak was the universe teaching you a lesson about the van before you are somewhere deep in the wilderness, so it a win. 😊 Bruges is beautiful. November 25, 2024 Maryland, USA: You both bring such a wonderful, positive vibe to all the amazing adventures I've seen you share! Jen, your adorable way of talking about chocolate-knowing it's your absolute weakness-is just the best. As a Catholic, I truly appreciated your visit to the Basilica; those stained glass windows beautifully express the faith. It's so lovely how you honor all faiths and share the history, like during your time in India. And Liam, I simply love watching you cook! Following your channel for almost three years has really inspired me to focus on my health-it’s been such a positive change! I used to think dining out or socializing would be impossible, but you've shown me otherwise. Jen, just the thought of waffles with chocolate makes me smile! And Liam, your beer tasting expressions are priceless-give me a glass of wine any day! Oh, and that magical night with the Christmas spirit? Amazing! Jen, several months ago you shared your jewelry-are you still creating and selling them? Safe and exciting journey ahead. Thank you for bringing me along with you.

Do not underestimate freezing temperatures below -15 C - 45 C with wind. I live in Sweden and saw people with no respect for low temperatures...., starting battery problems, dieselheater problems, electric problems, frozen water in the camper van, all done by the cold. And wrong tires on the car, best is spiked tires and snowchaines for extra help, when you want to free camp in the wilderness. I wish you a very very nice and perfect stay in the Nordic !

I think if i went back to cold climes i'd fit a cheapo Chinese diesel heater as a backup for the Truma in case of issues, say with the truma intake or exhause icing or blocking with wind driven snow.

Luckily, your water issue was easily sorted. I'm off to Poland this week, tomorrow having winter tyres fitted (stricter laws in Germany). Yesterday I filled up with petrol, drove 3 meters, parked, someone knocked on my window, there was petrol leaking 😳, drove 2 minutes to a mechanic... apparently, i filled it up too much, and it began to 'de-air'... luckily, it stopped... lesson learned.. three weeks ago my car wouldn't start either... battery was knackered, im glad that happened here instead of in Germany or Poland. Have a fantastic time on your travels. Vegan greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 🌿

With water, just remember when you are driving and there is no heating on in the camper, the water will get dumped by the system every time the temperature in a camper goes below it's threshold, which basically mean it will be happening everyday during your driving. That's why van people in Canada and Finland also (YT Vantastic) leave their heating on constantly 24/7 :) or more often they just don't use water tanks but carry the water in bottles throughout winter. Safe journey :) PS your system dumps water to mainly protect the boiler not to protect your pipes.

Be careful with lithium batteries in cold climate, if you attempt to charge the battery and the battery has a temperature under 0 degrees celsius and the battery doesn't have a working low temperature sensor with shut off you will destroy your battery. Even with a working low temperature sensor with shut off you can't charge up the battery until battery temperature is above 0 degrees celsius. A lithium battery with built in heater system is a must in cold climate use. Also all water tanks (don't forget the gray water tank) including piping with standing water need to be propper insulated and heated if they are outside the heated living area, best solution is electric 12v heating pads with thermostat (same can be used for lithium batteries but one with with built in heating is still best). Make sure you have coolant mixed for temperatures down to -50 degrees celsius. Diesel available in 90% of europe will gell up in temperatures below -15 degrees celsius, make sure to fill up with winter diesel in sweden, norway or finland before heading upp far north. Last but not least, propper WINTER tyres not M/S tyres!!! M/S tyres are actually illegal to have fitted in the period between 1 december-31 mars, only propper winter tyres are allowed and if there unstudded they have to be certified with the alpine top symbol on the side of the tyre. Renting winter tyres when arriving in sweden, norway or finland will be the cheapest for most that are visiting during winter time.

We were moving across the country in Canada with a trailer, and we realised that our trailer lights were completely fried on the day we were set to leave. We had non-refundable hotel bookings for seven days (the length of the trip), so even leaving one day late would cost us hundreds of dollars (including a ferry trip). Thankfully UHaul saved us at the last possible minute by redoing the wiring for us. It was one of the most stressful days of our lives, so I know how you must have felt at the time.

You guys have a tough trip ahead, but I hope it is a wonderful experience. I have been to Bruggee once, but only on a P & O mini cruise, so we only had about five hours in the city. I would love to go back again. Sadly, P & O stopped the mini cruise to Brugge and only do the Netherlands now. Have a wonderful time, stay safe, and if you get that gut feeling something isn't right, make alternative plans.

It’s fantastic to see you on the road again! 🚗 I’m already loving your journey, and Bruges is absolutely stunning. 🌟 You’ve got this! 💪 I’m so glad you ignored the naysayers and followed through with your plans. 🙌 You always deliver in your vlogs, and I especially enjoy the historical insights you share. 📜 Thanks a ton, and I can’t wait to catch next week’s vlog! 🎥

So far so good. Not 100% convinced all your healthy food in packets are healthy LOL. I appreciate your options for less processed foods are hard with 1 ring but I’m sure you cld do it less processed. Have fun.

95% was just wholefoods: beans, rice etc. One packet had a tomato sauce with it. And the spice mix is literally just a spice mix with salt

@ they’re in packets that are sprayed usually with nasty stuff. As I said I appreciate your not in a big kitchen.

I suggest a booster pack to boost battery from auxiliary port in the cab of the truck. During winter in Canada we plug in block heaters to keep the engine warm, may not need to with newer vehicles. Stay safe and enjoy your trip.

Great post. If you’re going to have a bean based one pot meal on the go you’ve always got a fallback position if your diesel heater packs up.😀

Hey guys! Don't know where you are now, but just to let you know.. There's lethal black ice road conditions going up along the Swedish northern coast right now! If that's your route be very very careful! You really need studded tires right now!
