We're getting a Tesla Solar Glass Roof: Order, Pricing, Inspection, Permits, Install
Hey, I'm Sven from This Guy Edits, a YT channel with over 350K subs. I've recently become a Tesla fan boy and want to document my experience with the Tesla Solar Glass Roof as it is being installed on my house.
It's been years in the making and this version three roof is supposed to be finally ready for prime-time. Generally, I try not to be an early adopter, and would rather like to see proof of concept first. But since the Federal Tax Credit is about to run out, I decided to take the plunge now and see if it works out.
How long will the process take? Will there be any problems along the way? Will it perform? These are all question I'm eager to share with you and finally get to the answer: Was it worth it? So if you're into that kind of stuff, subscribe. I'll post update videos as the project unfolds.

Thanks for taking the time to make the videos. Our system will be getting installed in the next few weeks. I already had Solar Panels but I am removing them and putting on a new roof. We have three power walls and our current system is running our home entirely off the grid. It looks like you need to cut down some trees in your yard however. We removed several of them over the years. Been running solar for about eight years but the slick Tesla Roof will double our capacity. Thanks again for very well done videos!

This panel can put out close to 100 watts kzbin.infoUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

On Dec 29, 2020 (a mostly sunny day) my peak was 2.048 kW, with an overall production of 10.995 kWh. On Jul 8, 2019 my peak was 2.336 kW, with an overall production of 18.906 kWh.

I do have to say the output is a bit disappointing for the solar panels. I'm here in the Bay Area and on the 21st my traditional solar system (8.1kw) produced 33.4kWh. So if yours is a 7.8kw system and only producing 14.6kWh they aren't very efficient. Do you think that is because so much is non-south facing? Good news it that was the shortest day, so it's all uphill from here! Also, are you going to be applying for the SGiP rebate on your batteries?
@ThisGuysTesla
@ThisGuysTesla 3 жыл бұрын
That's good to know. A good 35-40% of my tiles are facing to the North plus your panel efficiency rating could be higher. Do you know your projected yearly output for your system? Mine comes in at 9500kwH.
@marksaake
@marksaake 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThisGuysTesla PVwatts showed I'd have a yearly output of about 14.3MWh and I just crossed the 1 year mark and it as 14.5MWh, so pretty close (24 panels, 330w each, 186 degrees south) Sounds like it may be the percent of the tiles on the north side of your house. When you get that garage done, since it is south facing, you'll be much better off. Are you in PGE country, or SCE? The PGE peak rates are so late in the day, that if anything to the WNW is really good for net-metering offsets.

Will this work in a grid down situation? If you conserve energy how long can you run without the grid?
@ThisGuysTesla
@ThisGuysTesla 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. If the grid shuts down the system will separate from the grid and run off battery/solar. How long can it last? It depends on the weather. Here is sunny California it can last for weeks. I have been off-grid for all of February just because the solar was able to fully recharge the battery every day plus feed additional electricity into the grid.

Is it worth it to give energy back to the grid? Or should you just keep it for cloudy days?
@ThisGuysTesla
@ThisGuysTesla 3 жыл бұрын
yes, the excess energy has to go somewhere, when your battery is full and your immediate consumption is met. The grid acts like an extended battery that you can draw from (usually at night when you're not producing). Google net-metering for the concept.

Can someone tell me if it is possible to start with just one powerwall and grow it over time (buying second or third) in the second year of owning the solar roof and starting with only a single powerwall? [Edit: it seems that the question may have been answered in the video]
@ThisGuysTesla
@ThisGuysTesla 3 жыл бұрын
You can just start with one powerwall. Just be aware that you may not be able to power your entire home off a single powerwall in the event of a blackout as you can only draw a certain amount of kw at a time. What I have heard is that Tesla will wire the single powerwall in such a way that only the most important circuits will be powered and other circuits will go dark during an outage.

What did your home owners insurance company say about the roof? I've been wondering how insurance companies will view the Tesla Roof and what changes they will make to your policy costs? When I call insurance agents and ask them about it, they say: What is a Tesla Roof? When I explain it to them and they look it up themselves, they then say: I have no idea what my company will say about it and what they will charge for a policy for a house with a Tesla Roof.

insurance covers the solar system as it is permanently attached tot he house. You may need to increase your coverage to cover the additional replacement costs.

Like gulf countries more than 36 degrees." Great feature its like dream house" resolving daily hassle more over save's our earth 🌍 from global warming.
