Pro tip for Caleb: When grabbing climbing gear with a handsaw, pinch the blade in your hand, and use the rubber handle to retrieve your gear. The handle is more gentle on your ropes, and grabs carabiners much easier. Many handles have built in hooks that are especially useful. Beware the sharp teeth of course.

Great video guys, the dealership I worked at for 20 years in a little Florida town was sold and the new owners cut all the big oak trees down to give the building more exposure from the road. The trees were healthy and offered a shady area to park and avoid the brutal Florida sun. Now when you drive by all you see is this big white building and black top parking lot that sticks out like a sore thumb. I was also surprised at just how many of the local residents were upset with this decision themselves.

When you treat your employees well, and the company/boss has a really cool attitude and work culture, then this is what you get. Plus, they are doing very dangerous work, so working a bit slower, taking time to think out the what-ifs before you make a cut or climb, results in a much safer work space.

My mom always griped when my brothers came home with loads of fish because they would dump them in the tub until they were all scaled and cleaned, and a couple of times it was the next day before she had her tub back. This was not good in a 1 bathroom home. I learned as kid if I was gonna eat fish or go fishing, I needed to know how to clean and scale the fish as well, especially if I didn't participate in the catching at all. Mom and Dad were the only ones who never did the cleaning. Parents Exemption Rule.

You have mentioned it in a few videos such as the one that fell on someone’s house in the snow storm and the cedar that split but never gone into detail regarding pruning and wind resistance. I live on the east coast where the hardwoods have massive canopies. The look most folks go for is to remove most lower branches leaving the largest unions and trim up any growth to 50+ ft. All while not removing any horizontal spread. Are oaks, elms etc the same as cedars or firs where it is beneficial to have some weight on the tree lower to the ground? Seems like this would create more stress on the trunk during a storm.

I guess I'm kind of old school. I used to use a throw line. Set my climb line and safely foot lock up. But my pole pruner was about 15 feet long so I'd use it to advance my rope up higher and use a double crotch method. Gary Abrojena taught me that back in 96. Hahaha. There are lots of new tools /toys out there these days.

@@guiltyoftreesoneastsidetre4792 I planted a sugar maple and a red maple and my cross the street neighbor planted Silver maples. About 15 years ago. His maples are twice the size of mine but his is already shedding branches and having issues with them. They grow fast and look great for about 25 years. Then they start to weaken and become dangerious. Then the bad starts to happen. We had a ice storm back in 97 in October. Most of the trees in the old part of town (Omaha) were old silver maples. It took two weeks to get power restored. If I owned that house I'd remove that tree. I'd guess its 50-60 years old and will only get worse. Read what is written on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_saccharinum Some towns have banned them.
