Thank you for this helpful video. I’ve dreaded discussing my issues with a cast member and felt as uncomfortable as your husband did, but your video gave me enough hope to try. Though my request was ultimately denied, I wouldn’t have attempted it without your example. Glad they were able to work with you. This was a big step for me, so thank you. I hope Disney continues working to improve accommodations for veterans. It’s encouraging to know they’re making an effort.

Thank you for having a more positive informative take on this. It's refreshing to see.

My husband has a hard time sharing his struggles with the cast members as well but knows that our trips would never work without it. We were approved in Disneyland after the changes but haven’t been back to WDW yet to try our luck there. We go for sure in May so we will see. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Tell him he is certainly not alone! Best of luck to him and sending him all the confidence and courage to share his experiences. 💞

We went through the process with Disneyland in May. My son is on the spectrum, you can’t tell by looking at him. But he has dyspraxia and stims A LOT. Part of the stimulation for him has to do with humming a lot and moving in circles and spinning. He will bump in to people and can be annoying for people who don’t know him. Having to explain this is tough because I worry that they would deny him just by looking at him.
@KaylaTsukinochanАй бұрын
You won't know if you don't try. It's as they said, more of the reactions to standing in a convention due, not what you look like.

My son tried to apply, but my niece hadn't accepted to be linked to his MDE, so they wouldn't even consider him and allow her to join later. Which is ridiculous. Another thing that changed, when we went in January 2024, he was allowed to take 5 people with him, and we had 11 total, but it helped him ride with his niece and nephews. The other thing they did, was drop the ability to pre-book 3 rides each day. It feels like they are really pushing people to spend $ especially since the Premier Pass came out close to the same time they started denying people who had always qualified in the past for DAS. Just my thoughts of course. Thank you for sharing. We are going on Monday night to Disney Springs and fingers crossed he qualifies.

I’m a 100% disabled veteran and just thinking about talking to a stranger about my issues gives me allot of anxiety. Although, standing in lines with heavy amount of people in close proximity also isn’t great. Thanks for the information. ❤

@@gregbrown9959 thanks for your service. I'm in the same boat, 100% P&T war vet, and while I previously got the DAS, I no longer qualify. I completely understand what you said about stuck in lines with crowds, completely. Heat makes it worse with some of my other health issues. Not something most will get, but if you know, you know. I didn't retire from the military and I'm not on active duty, so I don't qualify for discounts or Shades of Green either. I fit into a category that Disney completely ignores, now that DAS is out of reach. But, it what it is. The day we can no longer go is fast approaching.
@metallicobra1986Ай бұрын
@@DougV2014 I was under the impression that with 100% you do qualify for shades of green.

@@metallicobra1986 you have to be "retired" or active duty. I'm neither
@robertsmith2432Ай бұрын
@@DougV2014 you're mistaken, brother. Since 2020 veterans with a disability rating have been able to use SOG year round. You'd be a category 2. I'm only 90% so category 3.

We tried again today and they put some medical representative on there and it was up to the medical guy as to whether or not you are DAS pass worthy.. super ridiculous.

Great Video y’all. My hub is like yours, doesn’t want to talk about his mental health. I’ll have him watch this video so he knows what to do and see if he gets approved. Our trip won’t be till Nov 2025, I’m sure things will change again, lol. Thanks again Tim and Ash! 👍❤🇺🇸

Thanks for this video. I wasn't going to try and get my pass, but It shows that I can possibly get my pass.

Its absolutely possible! Like we were saying, it can't hurt to try! Yes, its a difficult conversation but monetarily it costs nothing so why not? Its worth a shot to make your experience better for you and your family :)

I’m curious if the 240 days is only for AP holders or for normal ticket holders? Or Salute tickets or MYW.
@cathylookabaugh9040Ай бұрын
@@The_Jay_Mo It's for anyone who qualifies for DAS.
@battlegroundbiscuitsАй бұрын
The 240 day pass would be for anyone visiting the parks...it doesn't matter if you have an AP or a certain kind of ticket. Anyone who needs it can apply and gets the same privileges :)

I will say to be careful with writing things down for a family member you are trying to help. A friend of mine who has Autism had her family help her write things down about her experiences in line so she wouldn’t forget because she tends to have sticky thinking and can be slow to respond. She gets nervous and has high anxiety and will sometimes not know how to answer the question. They denied her because they can see that she is clearly reading off a script. She tried to explain that she wrote them down herself because she has a hard time remembering but they said no. They can’t be sure that she’s just not reading a prompt or script.
@battlegroundbiscuitsАй бұрын
Thats interesting...thanks for sharing this experience. I have a hard time understanding why she would get denied for that if she is Autistic and NEEDS a prompt to communicate effectively. A lot of people have care takers that have to do the video call for the person applying for DAS because they are non verbal. So it makes me wonder what the difference is in how their disorder is appropriately communicated. Thats unfortunate that they weren't willing to work with her. I hope she tries again...like we were saying, a lot of this process could boil down to the cast member. Best wishes to you and your friend!

I get that. You do not want to talk about that stuff. I'm a veteran and I get it.
@robertsmith2432Ай бұрын
I'm really not looking forward to the process next year.
@battlegroundbiscuitsАй бұрын
We can absolutely empathize! Just know that there are cast members there that want to help you. They may not all understand but you definitely have every opportunity to explain and be heard.
@jimmylee5163Ай бұрын
So this is subjective and depending on you get to talk to that day, this is wrong on so many levels and the ability of two people with similar situations to be evaluated differently is horrible.
@KaylaTsukinochanАй бұрын
Actually, that's a good thing. Disabilities are like fingerprints. No two are the same, even if it's the same disability. So you want a person to treat you as one person, not a category.

Going to Disney may not be a good idea for individuals who feel uncomfortable being in large crowds.
@battlegroundbiscuits17 күн бұрын
@@loualiberti4781 maybe…but what about their kids who love it? And what if the individual loves everything else about Disney but struggles with that one variable? That’s just too bad for them and don’t bother trying it? If Disney offers accommodations for some of those individuals it’s absolutely ok for them to use them to make their trip easier. That’s what is so great about Disney!
