Our First FULL Day in Honolulu, Hawaii! Exploring Our Military Resort | We Found A Love Tree!

Alooooooha! On our first full day in Hawaii we "slept in" according to our Eastern time zone standards. But it was actually about 6:30am! Thats probably the best part about the time difference...the day is MUCH longer when you're waking up so early. We fit A LOT of exploring into our schedule today. It started with coffee of course down in the lobby and then we took a quick stroll around the property. We went to see the pools and admire the lush greenery all around Hale Koa Hotel. It is absolutely breathtaking! Even when it rains! Hawaii gave us our first rainbow on our way to the beach! We had a late but very lovely breakfast buffet at Koko at Kalia...the coconut syrup on the banana pancakes was HEAVEN! We also walked over to the Hilton Hawaiian Village just a few steps away from the resort and did a little shopping. Theres SO much to do and see (and eat) over there! We had to grab some ice cream at Lapperts of course before we walked back over to our section of Waikiki. On the walk back we found the LOVE tree! This tree stands just on the outside of the property lines at Hale Koa. Its hard to find so almost like a fun scavenger hunt! Its popular to take a picture with your loved one when you find it so of course we indulged in tradition. We ended the afternoon with a quick dip in the pool! Tim went down a couple slides as well...just to try them out ;) It was a great time but wish we had MORE time to relax. However, we had to end our swim session to go get ready for the LUAU! Overall it was a fantastic day and I'm SO glad we took the first day to just casually explore the area and the grounds at Hale Koa. It was a great way to get familiar with everything they have to offer. Theres even more though to see and do so stay tuned for more videos from our trip! Thanks for watching! Mahalo!

li-hing mui: lee-hing-moo (like how the cow goes)- we... salted Chinese plum powder. Buy the powder locally here in Hawaii to save money ! Even 7*11 Hawaii stores sells it in packages ! E Komo Mai - yes, correct pronunciation is the e is pronounced like an 'a'. The coconut syrup is sold at local supermarkets--- made by Hawaiian Sun (same company that makes the 11.5 oz canned fruit juice/nectars)... went up in price in the pandemic, so now I believe the last time I saw it it was being sold for almost $8 for about 12 or I believe 14 ounces in a white plastic syrup container.

I’m going to remember this on our next visit! I’ll admit I was totally clueless about li-hung-mui but oh my it’s delicious! But my favorite was that coconut syrup! I found some at the airport on sale and we have already finished it at home 😍

Your such a cute couple…. Back in 1980’s my husband was stationed at schofield barracks and we stayed at illikai… then went back when we were stationed in Monterey CA 1986 stayed at Hilton Hawaiian what great memories ❤

Ooooo you’re going to love it! At the top of one of our hikes Tim actually said “Hawaii just does something to ya” and he couldn’t be more right! Have SO much fun! The pick a pearl was around $15 for the pearl? I think I mentioned it in the Hawaii itinerary video or linked it somewhere. It was pretty affordable!

I also have been to the Hale Koa. I did not stay in the hotel when I first moved to Hawaii because my dad had went there first and got housing set up so me and my Mother arrived some weeks after he did. But I did go swimming in the hotel pool at lot and once with my cousin when she and her parents and grandmother were visiting me and my parents in Hawaii in February 2008.
