I don't think wondertrade is necessarily *actively* internet-based, you're not directly trading with another player, but I think you might be getting a fused pokemon that another trainer actually made. The came can already have some internet connectivity with the "dynamic" mode, where it downloads sprites as needed rather than downloading all 175000 off the bat.

Love the playthrough~ I got the game myself because of you two having so much fun. As a quick tip from my playing; I only beat Brock recently so no spoilers: 1) Seems like almost all trainers after being beaten have an interaction. You can either rebattle them and like Gold/Silver/Crystal their pokemon lvl up AND evolve; sprites too. Or they will trade you their pokemon, or they will give you money/items. 2) Breaking rocks in Mt Moon or spamming the forest for mushrooms is a decent way to get some quick cash
