@@thepressleygirls Remember with a regular fireplace without an insert allows the warm air inside the house to be drawn up through the chimney - actually making your home colder. You can always purchase your own propane tank and then call around for prices and fill it up with the best deal. Your new home is beautiful! Here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, houses are going very fast, and there are bidding wars going on. It’s amazing. The demand for housing has just tripled. I’m glad you two were able to get in this charming little house in the woods! Walking out on the decks is like being in a magic forest. You guys will have so much fun with your family and friends in those decks. Let the good times roll!! ♥️❣️🙏🏼❣️♥️

The housing market is crazy everywhere! You are so fortunate to find something you could afford, that it is in a nice area and close to your family and that you prayed about it for God’s will to be done… and that Austin was agreeable on the buying of the house. Congratulations 💕!!

I'm in Smithville Tennessee. A couple years ago you could buy a nice little house around here under $100,000 easily, now it's doubled that or more. Just south of me in McMinnville TN. which is, or was a fairly run down poor area, you could have bought a small house there for well under $100,000 a couple years ago. I remember houses there in the 40 to 50 thousand dollar range all day not long ago. Now they're asking and getting $150,000 to $200,000 for not much. And a lot of houses are in the 300 thousand dollar range. Definitely out of the price range of most people who are native to this area. The realtors I've spoken to, tell me it's a lot of people from California and elsewhere, who are moving here wanting to get away from all the insanity of the blue states. And our prices down here look pretty cheap to someone coming from a place where the average home is over a million dollars. We're all hoping they don't bring their blue state entitlement mentality with them.
@thepressleygirls3 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s some serious change in price. It’s the same here. Daddy built our house in the 90s for $30,000 but now we could probably sell it for $200,000. But we would never do that, we love it to much. But indeed homes here just 5 years or so ago we’re so affordable but now the natives are pretty much up the creek without a paddle. Our realtor also said she has a huge clientele from out of state. It’s completely insane and really just to bad for those who just can’t afford it!

@@thepressleygirls It might be the high lumber prices have something to do also with the high prices of houses. I noticed that land is still not all that awful bad. A few acres can be had for twenty or thirty thousand. And if the price of lumber was reasonable, a house could still be built for maybe 40 or 50 thousand if a person builds it themselves. When I bought my property here in 1993, I paid $70,000 for 230 acres. And that was the most reasonably priced land in any of the 5 or 6 southern states that I searched in. Once in a while you can still buy hunting land for $1000 an acre in large tracts. There's a Mennonite community in Spencer Tennessee that bought one 5000 acre tract, and split it between about 50 families. If I remember correctly I think they paid about a million for the whole place. And land still has not shot up too much in price there. Kentucky is the other place I noticed that land and home prices are still very reasonable, at least out in the very rural areas.

@@thepressleygirls Sounds like the folks from California buying places in Montana and Idaho and driving up the prices there. I live with my aunt in Canton, one of the farther northern suburbs of Atlanta. She bought her house in 2015, I think for $250k, and according to Zillow it's worth about $400k now. That's a heck of a jump in only five and a half years.

@@spartaeus The land here is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s not to pricey for the acreage and sometimes it is. Wow, you got a steal on that land! That’s great! In about 93 or 94 our Dad built our house for $30,000. You couldn’t even get the lumber for that now. 🤠

You all are like a breath of fresh air. 🥰I just thought I'd chime in to say there is hardly any inventory of homes out here. People are fighting over ~1,000 sq ft. condos built in the 70s, offering upwards of $800k for them, and even offering up the full price in cash!! And that's in the suburbs too, not even in downtown proper!!!! It's insane

I have been browsing the housing market in y'all's neck of the woods and you are not kidding the prices are insane!! So I have gone back to looking for a small unrestricted piece of land, as I prefer a tiny house or small space. my parents bought this house they live in 25 years ago for 140,000 , right across the river from Louisville Ky , the house is two blocks off the water (the Ohio river , a mighty river that is the dirtiest river in America believe it or not) today their house will sell for close to 400,000 and the yard is tiny but we do have a pool, its wild how expensive life has become. Congrats to yuns !! so happy for you!!

Congratulations, Austin and Corie!!! The housing market has tripled in prices in most areas across the country. You're blessed to have been able to find a home that you like and were able to buy it, too!!! It is beautiful, and not alot to do, change, etc... I actually like the red kitchen, and could see a rooster theme going there, but it will be fun to see what you two do with it!!! I, too would keep the gas, as prices can fluctuate with gas and electric, and it's always good to have a backup. Love the porches, walkway, that the basement is finished, everything is pretty perfect and ready to go!!! The yard will be so much fun to landscape a bit more, and the scenery is gorgeous!!! God Bless you both, and have fun decorating, etc!!!

Yes, gas can be a scary thing. Did the real estate agent or previous owners show you how to use it? We live in Minnesota, and have both gas and electric, although our gas is natural. Even so, we live about 30 feet from the Magellen pipeline, which is connected to the main fuel line to our 2 airports. We live 15 miles south of the Mall of America in Apple Valley, MN, and the airports are right across the freeway from the mall. We currently rent, as I am divorced, and my 2 young adult sons live at home still. One is severely disabled, and my other son and I work full-time for him as his PCAs, plus my other son has a part-time job besides, and I have a small gift business that I run from home. We have been looking for a house, but they sell faster than we can keep up with. The right thing will come along when it's supposed to. We are traveling alot this year, (just returned from Branson, MO a couple of weeks ago), so, it's probably a good thing that things are the way they are right now. But you two will figure everything out the way you want it to be, and feel comfortable with, and all will be fine!!! The wood ceilings are beautiful, too!!!

1] housing market in South New Jersey/Philadelphia area is also insane. Was viewing a mobile home (trailer) on line. Was offered in 2017 for $20,000 but no takers. Now $98,000!! PS I agree w/ others about keeping the gas, especially if your area is prone to bad weather & power outages.

Don't get rid of gas. It's cheaper than electricity. Baseboard heaters will run up your electric bill in the winter. I recommend adding a woodstove. Great h eat producers. Way More efficient than a fireplace. Cooking on a gas stove you can control the heat better than electric. Especially the dreaded glass top electric. I know its been two years but these are my tips.

Congratulations! What a lovely home! It has a great floor plan & the yard areas are nice. I was wondering why you'd get rid of the propane? I guess electric is better environmentally? I can't cook on an electric range as well as gas. I so dislike electric blown (forced air) heating. Radiant heat is so much more effective, like water-filled baseboard heating or those old-school iron radiator deals, but they all require oil or gas to heat up. I have a woodstove & use those electric radiators that are filled w/ oil that heats up. I like all the wood trim, the natural brown look. I'm so proud for you & have gained even better respect for you that you'll wait until marriage to live w/ Austin in your new home. It's great that y'all be close to your side of the family. I'm sad to hear that the horrendous real estate prices & shortage of housing has "infected" your area. It's bad all over the states, but I didn't think your little neck of the woods would have the high prices. Yes, when you feel at peace about something, it's because you are living in God's will. He won't lead us to something that's not right. Jesus, I trust in You, thy will be done 🙏🏻 Blessings! 🤗

We are just scared of gas and not used to it. Truly it’s a lot better to cook on! And more reliable. It’s really bad where we are.
