I think the Christmas lights weren't lit, because it was before "Totensonntag" (Dead Sunday, this year 21st of november). Love your content and excitement to explore germany an the german culture. Nowadays, many people forget, in which peaceful and enjoyable country we live. Your videos reminds me of it every time. Thanks and stay safe!

How lucky you were to find an open Christmas market, I heard that not all of them are this season because of covid. I love how Willa tries every new food just like her parents. We have a famous Xmas market here in Lübeck. It takes place in the 'Heiliggeist Hospital ', a big church like building from the year 1286 which used to be a hospital and an old people's home until 1963. There were little booths built in ( 4 square meters big) in which the old citizens lived. During today's Xmas market season the booths are used for the sale of hand-crafted things and beautiful gifts. On Advent Sundays one of the local church choir will sing Xmas hymns . Of course this is the greatest attraction for not only locals but also for visitors from all over Scandinavia who travel here just for that.

Thank you for bringing a Christmas Market right home to me. I won't be able to go this year, but for a moment I could dream of having some "Reibekuchen mit Apfelmus" potato pancakes with applesauce, or hot "Maroni" chestnuts not only are the latter ones a good snack but the best hand warmer when it gets colder. I am not a big fan of Glühwein, so I usually go with the "Kinderpunsch" the punch for children, if it's made out of grape juice (red or white) from a winery it tastes even better. My favorite cookies, Zimtwaffeln and Mandelherzen. Bad Wimpfen had so far my favorite Christmas Market over the years. They advertise their market to be the oldest market in Germany, and old German, so I only saw a lot of traditional goods and most of it seemed handmade. It's neither too big nor too small. So today is the first day of Advent season, so we will light up the first candle of the Advent wreath. By the way will you make an "Adventskalender" for Willa or will you buy one? Has the Adventskalender made it into your family tradition, or is it something new to you?

Kaiserschmarrn enthält sehr viel Ei, much more than american pancake. And after the Kaiserschmarrn pancake ist scrumbled, the pieces have to have an other fry with sugar and butter to cover them with a caramel. And the common snack on a Christmas market is gebrannte Mandeln.

Such a pity that the most Christmas markets are closing now, or have never opened, due to the current situation...you were lucky that you made it to one. We (Western Austria) haven´t had a market last year or this year, really. Such a pity but at least your video gives me some of those missed Christmas vibes. I think the Christmas markets in Kufstein, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Feldkirch and Ravensburg are the most magical I have ever been - part of the reason also is that those cities are breathtaking all year round and it only gets better over Christmas. :)

Thank you so much for showing our hometown in your video. You even showed the birth house of my wife! We were hoping to come back to Bayreuth for Christmas for the first time in many years, and now we heard that the Christmas market is gone, although scientists say the closing of the markets is pointless as long as schools are still open and soccer games are still played in front of an audience. This is a very sad state of affairs and we saw on the news where the vendors in Bayreuth had to dump their Glühwein into the sewer. Let’s hope things will be a bit more logical next year. We shall try again then.

Freiburg Christmasmarket closed due to COVID. In France Straßburg is still open but 3G + masque, same in Montbéliard ( smaller but very nice with impressing lights) In Alsace I like the one of Kaysersberg, not for the Christmas little chalets, but for the whole village. With COVID everything can change every day, so better check the COVID informations of the place you want to go.

@@OurStorytoTell It is not really a special Xmas thing. Dampfnudeln (Germknödel that are usually filled with some kind of plum jelly are more an Austrian thing) are somehow one of the meals I connect with my Grandma who lived in hour house and sometimes cooked in the week for all of us especially when my parents had a lot work to do. She served it with two sauces - a wine sauce and a vanilla sauce. As a child it was my favourite meal - and I am usually not a fan of sweet lunches. You can get them frozen from the supermarkets, too - but like all of this things they can test good but the best is when they come out of Granny's kitchen...

The "Kaiserschmarrn" you had is a traditional Austrian dish. One of the many stories how it was invented is, that Emperor Franz-Josef I. of Austria had been a huge fan of Palatschinken (Pancake) but the cook ripped it when putting it on a plate. To cover his mishap he covered it with a huge amount of powdered sugar. The word Schmarrn is austrian for a joke or nonsense. So it is said that people or the valets (depending on who tells this story) said this destroyed Pancake was a bad joke to serve to the Emperor, who by the way, loved it. Traditional the Kaiserschmarrn is served with Zwetschgengröster (that is like a mush made of Plums, but without water, so it will become more chewy) Ja, ich weiß, es gibt viele andere Geschichten um den Kaiserschmarrn und genauso viele Rezepte. Ich erhebe auch keinen Anspruch auf Korrektheit, insbesondere was das Gröster angeht. By the way, better late then never: Happy Thanksgiving to you. It's good to see you all back healthy after your Corona disease.

My favorite Christmas markets so far were the ones in Dortmund and Regensburg. The one in Dortmund is huge, there's a lot of stuff to try and it's not as crammed as some others and there's a giant Christmas tree and the one in Regensburg is really cozy and has a great Christmas atmosphere.

Although you don't drink, a classic German Christmas drink is Glühwein. That is a spiced heated wine. Probably gets busier later, people are just getting off work. Probably a good thing you went at this time though, due to the times.

Living in Berlin for 15 years now the city has a vast variety of different Christmas markets something for everyone‘s taste. Charlottenburger Schloß and Gendarmen Markt are my faves. But there some medieval markets for instance one in Siegburg near Bonn and nice ones in Köln and Bonn… I think a lot of atmosphere comes with nice old architecture surrounding the markets.those are the best.

wow I didn't hear you saying where you were, at first. Then I slowly recognized the buildings. It's a strange feeling, seeing the city I went to school in and lived in for a couple of years in a Video :P I'm literally 20 minutes away from there while typing :D You guys got lucky. It was pretty much constantly up to debate, wether or not the market would even open in 2021. That's why it looks so empty, compared to other years. My go-to drink at this and many other Christmas market is usually some kind of hot mead (preferably cherry mead)

Drive to Rothenburg ob der Tauber! That is the ultimate Christmas town in Germany……in my opinion! I know, this year is difficult with those markets due to new COVID restrictions especially in Bavaria! The Christmas markets are so valuable and needed for the people in Germany! For the people, who make an income with it and for the people, who are enjoying them alike! You could see it in your daughters eyes how precious a Christmas Market is and for you to experience that through her eyes is so special!

Not Käse but Kaiserschmarrn It was the most lived meal of emperor Franz of Austria, the husband of empress Maria Theresia. And yes, it is a scrambled pancake with a very eggy dough, very thick. And traditionally to be eaten with powdered sugar and Apfelmus

Acctually, the most beautiful christmas market may not even be in Germany, but in Strassbourg (ok, used to be German once). Perfect mixture of all the German goodies plus probably the Glühwein of the highest quality anywhere (real red wine with spices compared to the stuff served back home).
