Our First July Garden Tour After Our 4000-Mile Adventure
We have been gone from our zone 5 garden here in Wisconsin for over two weeks on a traveling vacation that saw us drive about 4500 miles through Canada and much of New England, and now that we are back, we want to share this July garden tour video with you.
One of the major concerns when going away in the middle of the summer is how the garden will fair when it comes to watering and rainfall, and we were incredibly fortunate that during this 2 week span while we were away, there was plenty of good rainfall, and so the worst thing I can say is that now I have a good bit of weeding to do, but for the most part, our garden grew very well, and many of the plants are much farther along as a result of the good gardening weather we had.
In this 2024 garden tour video of our urban gardening setup, we will show you many of the vegetables we have growing and provide updates on things like our front yard garden, and our GreenStalk vertical garden setups.

Its always a gamble going on vacation with gardens, looks like yours did great! I've been looking at the little mesh bags for fruits, yeah its work, but I dislike using netting because its a pain and last year I had a hummingbird get stuck (got it out).

Hello! Have you had any volunteer for you before? For us, once it arrived, the key was making sure it went to seed, and then there was little chance it wouldn't self-seed and come back. It thrives so well even in difficult soil, and so, once we see some coming in, we just nurture it like we would any other leafy green with some all purpose fertilizer.

Hi - I'm also in Zone 5 and have 2 big terracotta pots (guessing 15-20 gal) that I am thinking about doing some type of perennial berry bushes... any ideas? I've already got blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries in other parts of the garden so I was thinking currants or blackberry. Would nanking cherry be crazy?

How about Gooseberries! We actually have a gooseberry video coming out before too long. Blackberry would be great, and nanking cherry is something we don't have experience with, but upon reading, it looks delicious!
