A little hint about the Cantaloupes. They will detach themselves when they are really ready. You can pick them a little early, but they're even better when they separate from the vine themselves. Gorgeous harvest!

Tip for the pests, set up birdhouses along the perimeter of your garden! those finches will work for free, picking all the bugs out of your garden, especially shiny bugs like beetles. All natural pesticide!

Massive harvest. Loved to watch. Keep smiling and growing food. Cantaloupe gives out a vein at the tip where fruiting begins. This vein dries up and becomes crispy. That's the sign that Cantaloupe is ready to harvest. Melons, squashs, gourds too.

Great video, Cara! I love that you include the birds and flowers😊 I think cantaloupe harvest is tricky, so much so that I usually just wait until they harvest themselves by dropping off the vine(so I support mine in mesh bags).

I have a garden in my backyard, that’s not quite as big but it’s stuffed with lots of stuff so this video is a nice reminder of the nice weather of the late summer and autumn. I love being outdoors and harvesting my own vegetables like I’m independent

A helpful tip for bug control in your garden is put a fence around it with enough clearance on all sides so that you can still harvest as usual and then at one side or end as you choose, add a duck coop with an entrance to your garden. Then get you some female runner ducks. They only eat bugs never plants so your harvest is safe, and you get eggs as a bonus.

This video makes me really happy. It feels so real compared to content I’ve been trying to find on other platforms. This is my dream and I hope I can have a garden this beautiful. I just feel so hopeless I have no idea where to start but your energy makes me feel like it’s possible! I subscribed so maybe your videos will continue to give me hope.

Hi Cara, thanks for being here, well there but ya know, right! I just happened to check how big the Honeynut schadhaft are supposed to be when mature. I’d not heard of them before but it said they are 2.5”-4 1/2” X 8-10” long so it looks like the ones you got were perfectly ripe! I live in Western Washington State and our seasons are somewhat alike. I haven’t had a garden since I lost my husband 10 years ago. He loved gardening but it’s been difficult for me as I am disabled and restricted with my lack of abilities. I’m not giving up tho! I will somehow manage to have raised garden beds next year! I had gotten a lot of seeds this spring to get the garden this year, but had to have surgery that took its toll and so now I am waiting. Have you ever heard of Sweet meat Squash? If you haven’t, you otta look’em up cuz they are the best I’ve ever had. I just heard you are in Virginia! I thot you were in Wisconsin?!? I used to live in Eastern Virginia when in the military, Navy. Virginia is a lot different than Washington State do not sure if the Sweet meat Squash will grow there. Have a great nite and keep trusting in God, you never know what he will let you Grow! Jilli

Hi Jilli, I am sorry about your husband's passing. I hope you are able to get a garden in next year! I have seen some great options on the market for vertical gardening towers too, that might make things easier on you. I have never heard of sweet meat squash, but I just looked it up and it would grow in our zone, so I will have to give it a try! Thanks for the suggestion, and thank you for the info on the honey nut squashes too. Yes we are in Virginia! :) I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day! -Cara

That looks about the size I’ve seen all the honeynut squashes in markets. They are small but their flavour is unmatched.

Wonderful harvest Cara! Those tomatoes are amazing! And winter squashes store so well. Butternut is great as soup or shredded into a salad. 💖💖💖 I have never grown cantaloupe, but when I buy at the store I always try and select the ones with very little green in the skin, and are mostly a tan color with a strong fruity scent. I would suppose that would be the same for harvesting out of the garden.🤔💖😉

Hi Meg!! Yes butternut squash soup is a favorite in our house, I’ve already made it several times so far this year 😊😊😊

The things you want to look for with cantaloupe is its tan on the outside, no green. The tendril closest to the melon is dried up and the melon will just easily release from the vine when you touch it. Looks like you could have waited a little longer on that one. Absolutely stunning harvest and I’m super jealous because the incredibly hot and dry summer here caused my whole garden to be a fail.
