They said they cant play "they want efx" today because of all the nursery rhymes ,but the lyrics in that song was put together brilliantly and was their biggest song they made. The record was so big because the lyrics had humor and lines from cartoon characters and commercials that young and older people can relate to. So it hit hard at all ages. Brilliant!

What's funny is the"iggeddy" style had a lot of the industry biting so they dropped it for this album (the second) to show it wasn't a gimmick. They wanted to make sure people knew they had bars.

It started in 90 and was it's greatest in 94-95. I lived in Queens in 91 and in Brooklyn in 95. Big Daddy to Rakim to Nas EPMD & Hit Squad to ATCQ etc. but there was a time in the middle when Everybody was Poppin'! Between 93-94 Everyone you can think of at that time had a banger and none sounded the same, it will never happen again.

I put these guys in a category with Bone and the Migos-all of them invented (or popularized) a gimmicky lyrical style, it was hard to tell the difference between the individual members, and none really distinguished themselves. (They also all had long hair.) Their impact is as a group. I f’ed with DAS heavy. BIG said they got better after they dropped the “iggedy,” but ironically dropped in popularity. But OG trippin saying he wouldn’t bump their first shh today, still goes hard!

Bruh, there is nothing that rappers today can say about rappers back in the day. Rappers in the day had balance. They did hardcore, fun songs, love songs and everything... They want EFX was a fun song that was also hardcore and also extremely clever. You are paying too much attention to the fact that they used commerical and cartoon quotes instead of paying attention to the way that they are compiled (put together) to say something different than what they meant in the commercials and cartoons, double entendre and metaphor, techniques sorely missing today. Plus, dat flow man, dat flow...

What's happening with the big names today isn't really battle rap. It's more drama gossip rap. We used to travel to different cities and battle ppl at the movie theaters, subway or whatever. You had to have authenticity or go away. No exceptions! I don't listen to a bunch of millionaires rap about violence and drugs. Good reaction. And yea, Das wasn't here to be serious rappers. Just their own style. The new school makes music to make money. Originality isn't in their cards cause they copy what they see makes money. Wayne, NBA or whoever.

Damn, no disrespect, but who raised yall?! 😄I understand it being from before your time, but what did your parents, uncs and aunts listen too? Yall start so many videos talking about yall never heard of this one and that one, and it be legends yall be talking about, people with multiple hits! Also, if you never heard of some artists, alright it is what it is, but try to come with some respect, yall did better in this video, but in some prior videos yall came off like, you never heard of them so they must be trash, nah, that's what be making it hard to hit those like and subscribe buttons sometimes. Das EFX, for example, had 6 top 10 rap hits, and they weren't even the biggest rap group in the 90s. So, you aint gotta know them or like them, a honest reaction is always good, just keep coming with an open mind, and respect the fact that some of these artists did have a lot of success back then, even if you never heard about them. Maybe only do songs that were hits, until you get to 10k, keep it respectful and you'll be at 10k in a blink.
