Always with Lyrics. Real Talk Civil rights act passed in congress (64) Malcolm X (65) Black panthers founded (66) Want more info on King and Vietnam? Look up his "3 evils of society" speech (67) Almost like he and the Panthers thought the CRA was barely more than a band-aid....his shot came in 68 Spoken verse is a direct excerpt of a memo from the desk of hoover, founder of fbi. (Also 68) Fred Hampton and Mark Clark (69) The 70s was the so called "post civil rights movement" which saw the supreme court uphold integration. (Much the ssame way they upheld abortion rights in Roe v Wade, so not permanently) and the executive branch created "black history week". (Which reminds me of getting promoted to a new title without a raise). Which Carter woodson made it into a whole month (the short one when everbody is hungry for spring) 70s also saw Nixon start the "War on Drugs" The 80s saw the dissolution of the BPP. Reagan cut funding to EOC, and tried to eliminate the civil rights commission and affirmative action. As well as trickle down economics and doubling down on the drug war. (Or how to destroy, exploit, and profit off the slums in 5 easy steps) 90s saw rodney king and the battle of LA 2020 saw george Floyd 2021!!! 2 "protests" happened in 2021. One was the BLM rally in response to George Floyd, which got a police response similar to the LA "riots". The other was a bunch of rednecks storming the Capitol building with confederate flags, which got a police response similar to an underage party. Frank E. Tyson died 11 days ago(April 18, 2024) in ohio, saying i can't breathe, with a cop on his neck......just like Floyd The fight never ended. The weapons got harder to see, and the allies harder to rouse.

Zack is still screaming! Here’s a clip of Wake Up in 2022, he’s still got it, even while sitting down. He tore his Achilles on the second night of the tour, and kept playing until doctors ordered him to stay off of it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaC8qZ6mds6VnLssi=xKercpxI3moesgBc

100% that debut album is perfect from front to back. It's still my favorite album by them. Pouring through the lyrics, finding things I didn't understand, and then looking them up for historical context is one of my favorite things to do with music. The lyrics for this album provided a ton of homework and opened my mind as a kid. Once you start digging, your perspective changes. The FBI has never been our friend. Look no further than Fred Hampton.

I'm really glad this was highly requested here!! One of my favorite rage songs!! Ending credits of the matrix, on the soundtrack for it, one of many great movies soundtracks, if not one of the best!! But... Damn do I love this song!!!! Tom goes off on this!!!

Facts!! They teach through their music. It’s like a history lesson, with so much power and beauty of the sound. This track is my absolute favourite cuz there’s just so many layers. It’s sonically perfect, and then you add Zach’s lyrics and meaning and your mind is totally blown.

Really liked your “They Live” and football analogies. That’s right, it toughens you up. I had an ex-girlfriend who listened to RATM before class in school. She said after she and her friends played their album, “Nobody could fuck with us.”

He says "Hoover he was a body remover". He was talking about j Edgar Hoover who was the head of the FBI and who was pretty overtly trying to snuff out the black population in america. Angela Davis was affiliated with the Black Panthers and is famously one of the people that he tried but failed and she became a voice of generations.

"They Live" is a must watch. Probably more factual than fictional. Roddy Piper (Nada) trying to get Kieth David (Frank) to wear the sunglasses and the VERY lengthy fight that followed represents how hard it is to get somebody to "Wake Up".

He [King] could be a real contender for this position [ of ‘black messiah’] should he abandon his supposed ‘obedience’ to ‘white liberal doctrines’ (non-violence) and embrace black nationalism. … Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to pinpoint potential trouble-makers and neutralize them… FBI - COINTELPRO March 1968 MLK Assassination - April 4th 1968 I'm not saying they did it... but they definitely read his obituary with great enthusiasm. /They did it.
