Diana was only 15 yrs. old in this live performance. It was on the Russian song contest "You're Super!", a special competition showcasing youth who had come from broken homes, etc. Diana was abandoned by her abusive birth-mother when she was three, and spent two years in an orphanage before being taken in by Irina Ponik, who worked as a massage therapist and treated children from the orphanage. Because of the abuse Diana suffered during her first years, she had difficulty speaking, but loved to sing. An acquaintance of her new foster mother who was a musician noticed this and advised her new mother to seek a singing teacher for her. Diana is a contralto, meaning that she sings in the lowest registers naturally (like Cher). But she also has a very good range, allowing her to hit higher notes, and can sing in falsetto as well. And needless to say, she has an awesome texture to her voice, and is pitch perfect. She competed in the same "You're Super!" contest in both 2018 and 2019, and won both years. She also won the 2018 New Wave Junior international contest for young pop music performers, and a number of other national and international contests. As a result of these achievements, she was granted a full scholarship to the Russian Institute of Theater Arts in Moscow. She turns 18 at the end of this coming May. Great reaction! She was 15 when she sang Wicked Game. If you like stage presence and that tribal sound you should listen to Rechenka (The River) which she sang at 14. It is a Russian folksong about a young betrothed orphan girl who goes to the river, the boundary between the living and the dead, to ask her mother's blessing for her marriage. Ironically, Diana herself was an orphan who was abused and abandoned by her alcoholic mother. Because of this beginning her speech was very undeveloped and she was given singing lessons to help improve her speech. Her talents was quickly recognized and the rest is history.

Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human. First, she is a dramatic contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. It is a gift from God, and others have called it the Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. One in seven billion.

Diana's mother became her daughter's manager. Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. After winning a competition in Moscow, Diana's mother was offered to leave the girl in a boarding school for gifted children. She refused and in 2012 her family moved to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana lost her fear that the woman who gave birth to her would kidnap her. Diana's voice, her perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm were extraordinary even as a little girl and so she impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win. In 2017 she went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. She has mastered this time very professionally and has worked hard to bring back the lost high notes and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3 to D6. Her genres are folk-rock, folk-pop, jazz, soul, blues, soldier songs and Diana-stile… tradition meets modernity. She loves to sing in French, but also sings in English, German, Arabic and Spanish... but only phonetically.
