"Summer in the City was a huge hit in 1966. John Sebastian was the lead singer. They had several big hits in the 60s including "Darlin' be Home Soon", "She is a Mystery to Me", "Do You Believe in Magic" and many others.

I saw John Sebastian in concert a few years ago and he still has that infectious smile. 😁

Where do they come up with the magic? Walkin' on a sidewalk that is hotter than a matchhead. And babe, Don't you know it's a pity, That days can't be like the nights. In the summer, in the city. It takes me back... Too hot in the house... Cruising round town in mom's 1960 Cadillac windows down, cool wind in your face with songs like this playing on the radio!

You gotta understand folks these shows were all just sound tracks. So the artists had to pretend they were actually playing them live. They did do this in the studio but this performance was just staged. I just found your channel and so far I'm loving it. Peace. 🤔🤗😎

Hi guys, love you reactions and your content. I'm just surpised that you never reacted to Angelina Jordan. Ok she is a young artist and definitely not vintage. But she is singing music like the artist of the 50s and the 60s. Check out her cover of Etta James "I'd rather be blind". I guarantee you that you will be blown away. Also her cover of Screaming Jay Hawkins "I put a spell on you" is superb to say the least. Be careful, this content is addictive. You have been warned. Seriously check her out, she is the most promising up coming artist.

They were laughing because they were just lip-syncing and miming along to their studio recording - which was so obvious when it came to the traffic sounds and solo guitar that it was ridiculous.

Back in the 60s it was rare to see bands playing live on TV. For one thing, the broadcast technology (in terms of audio) wasn't good enough to capture the performance with any acceptable quality. But maybe even more than that was record label contractual restrictions on where or what venues they could perform live. The 60s/70s was an entirely different world, in so many ways, from the world we live in today.

I remember hearing this way back in the day and loved it coming from the radio. I will admit that this performance does not look so good visually though, and have no knowledge of the group to understand why.

@@davisworth5114 If it's only about the music, why did MTV explode because of the visual aspect as well ? Why did supergroups make a name for themselves with their stage performances if it was only about the music. Yes you have a point, but nowadays it's a combination of things I believe. Some groups became famous purely for the visuals and couldn't sing or play a note

@@samolevski1119 This is a "supergroup" and they didn't need no stinking MTV.
