How is it that you're from the UK and you're not even breaking a sweat! I'm a local and just 5 minutes under the sun and I'm perspiring like crazy! Also, if you're here till the 9th of August, there's an interesting Chinese religious festival (more like Taoist/Buddhist) that's called the Hungry Ghost Festival that starts on 4th August, with its climax on 18th August. It'll be an eye opener! There'll be people making burnt offerings throughout the day, and there might be performances at night around the country in the heartlands. definitely not something to be missed, because other tour influencers talk about it! You might also want to visit the heartlands to see how different Singapore looks from the CBD. There are interesting unique old public housing projects in Toa Payoh, Bishan, Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, and the newer places like Punggol, Sengkang, Telok Blangah and Jurong East and West. I'm a hobbyist photographer so HMU if you want to know some places to catch great views. Also, why Singapore is known as expensive is because Cars are typically pretty expensive here. But there are ways to live here that won't break the bank as a local as well :D

I lived in Singapore briefly, if I'm very wealthy and can obtain a permanent resident visa, I'd seriously consider settle down in Singapore. But there are some problems that most people need to keep in mind: 1) Its housing is among the most expensive in the world, I think only Monaco & Hong Kong are more expensive. 2) Cars in Singapore are the most expensive in the world. Fortunately the public transportation is good in many districts. 3) It's very difficult to get a permanent resident visa, unless you're very rich or marry a Singaporean citizen. 4) Singapore only has one season - summer, and it's very hot all year round.

WELCOME to Singapore!🇸🇬 You guys are just too kind with your compliments. Compare to many countries, we are arguably cleaner. But like every country in the world, we do have our fair share of ugly or “bad” bit. Fortunately for us, many things do work for us, thanks to an efficient government and civil services. I hope you’ll get to experience some less touristy bits of Singapore. Have fun, and come back. PS 43:00 most security cameras do not “monitor” us to FINE us for breaking the law. They serve most as a security camera in case of any serious crime so that the police can review to identify perpetrators. Except for those at vital installations, no one is watching us. Also, we have lots of penalties for breaking laws but one must be blatantly breaking one to get. As mentioned, the cameras are not used for this, and there’s hardly any police in sight.

Lau Pa Sat is not your typical neighborhood hawker centre. It's more for tourists and office workers who work there on weekdays. The prices are much steeper at Lau Pa Sat. Take the mrt out to Toa Payoh, Tiong bahru, etc or even the ones at Chinatown.

Oh no, you should be trying the white poached chicken rice. That's THE version of chicken rice which Singapore is famous for. And, eat it with dark black soy sauce and chilli (not the chilli slices) as condiments. The experts will order the white chicken drumstick with rice. The drumstick is usually served on a separate plate containing sesame and soy sauce which you can mix with the rice to enhance it's flavour. For Min JIang Kueh, go with the one with peanut with sugar (not the peanut butter).

Singapore 🇸🇬 also known variously as the “Lion City” or “Garden City,” the latter for its many parks and tree-lined streets-has also been called “instant Asia” because it offers the tourist an expeditious glimpse into the cultures brought to it by immigrants from all parts of Asia. It is not your typical South East Asia city that you have visited i.e. Thailand🇹🇭, Philippines 🇵🇭, Malaysia 🇲🇾, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Vietnam 🇻🇳, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Myanmar 🇲🇲 or even Brunei 🇧🇳. A combination of Modern Architecture surrounded by old British 🇬🇧 colonial buildings with lush foliage on the skyscrapers. Very westernized and contemporary yet still preserves the old rustic looks of old village settings. The price of accommodation and food tends to be on the pricey side if you dine on a mostly touristy flank. Go to hawker centers for cheaper options in Singapore 🇸🇬. There is plenty of it here and to approximate is beyond comparison. Singapore is one of the safest and cleanest cities to visit in the world. The country has a very low crime rate, and citizens feel safe. Singapore is also one of the cleanest cities in the world, and most people feel safe venturing out on the streets at night.

The base fair of the MRT or buses is 1.09 btw! It’s based on distance. The most expensive fare you can get on a trip is 2.37 for your info! A trip is considered ended 15 mins after you tap out of a bus/train. So if you tap to change to a bus or back to the train in 15 mins, it’s within the one trip 2.37 cap. Kaya is Coconut Jam btw. Enjoy your time in Singapore! :D

A very warm welcome to our 'sunny island set in the sea'. Part of the lyrics from one of our national songs. National Day is round the corner so you'll get to hear them everywhere. Just happen to come across your video. I'm always curious how Singapore looks like through a foreigner's eyes. You're very very open minded and alert to small details. Love your video and thank you for all your praises. It is the hottest period of the year now so please try to stay indoors or find shade between 11am to 3pm or at least wear a hat or cap and sunglasses. And sunscreen too. And most importantly, hydrate very often. Water is best. Buy from the local supermarkets, not from convenient stores like 7-11. Will have to pay a bit more for a ice cold drink from the supermarkets. Most toilets at the many malls are decently clean. Heat exhaustion is no joke. Enjoy and have fun😊

Even though I am a Singaporean, I still find it expensive living here. Just across the border in Malaysia, however, is a much cheaper alternative for holidaying. Even in Kuala Lumpur which is the capital city of Malaysia, things (food, accomodation and transport) are still cheaper than in Singapore. But in terms of cleanliness, in my opinion Singapore would top the list of South East Asian countries. And after having said these, hope you have a good stay and enjoyable stay in Singapore. Of course, there are ways to save depending on your travel style like where you stay, where to eat and moving around.

Kaya is actually a coconut custard jam. Made of eggs, coconut milk, sugar and pandan for the fragrance. Traditionally green kaya is made with the pandan leaves juice blended and added in. Brown is with added caramelised sugar (not honey. Honey is just a different modern variation you seen sold outside) and pandan leaves are added directly and slow cooked with other ingredients and taken out after done. This is the hainanese version.

Fun fact steamed chicken is actually poached. Please try it with the proper chicken rice chili sauce next time. It is blended with chicken stock essential to a complete chicken rice meal. Do visit other hawker centres like Chinatown Complex (largest in Singapore), Amoy, Tiong Bahru Hawker...and please don't place your utensils directly on the tray. P.S. Nasi Lemak is a Malay dish (the race instead of Malaysian the country). Just like chicken rice is a chinese dish which you can find in Singapore and Malaysia as well. Tian Tian at Maxwell is over-rated by the way and only tourists queue for it now. Min Jiang kueh is a traditional chinese snack. In Singapore there are a few stores now making it with modern/western flavours like Biscoff, cheese... Try peranakan/nonya food. Try indian food as well. Tekka Place will have loads of choices for you. If you are adventurous, try the Indian fish head curry, roti john... Try visiting the lesser visited places like Pulau Ubin (island), Changi Village/Changi Beach :D

When most people look at Southeast Asia, they generalise what they usually see in those developing countries as the standard of Southeast Asia. However, they often forget that Singapore is the developed country in Southeast Asia & still continues to improve and move forward as the years passed. We have grown so much over the years and that has differentiated us from the developing countries. Do not forget that Singapore has the number 1 passport too 😅 There is a link bridge from MBS to Gardens by the Bay, you guys had missed that 😅 I just heard that you guys are here for a few weeks 😊 you can explore the Sungei Buloh Nature Park if you guys are interested in exploring nature & wild animals 😉 East Coast Park is also a good place to explore as it is by the seaside, and there are plenty of food places & some fun facilities too. The hawker centres away from the city area will be even much cheaper. Min jiang kueh is actually chinese pancake, easily found in hawker centres.

I was worried when I saw how much red chillies you placed on the chicken rice. It is going to be fiery hot if you ate that with chilli seeds. We actually eat chicken rice with the spicy sour sauce then you mentioned

Hawker centres were created to get street vendors of the streets and control cleanliness and food hygiene. Also, in the past these hawkers would litter the streets and they would attract rats and roaches. An upgraded version of hawker centres are food courts. Food courts tend to be a little bit more expensive but you have air-conditioning.

Welcome to Singapore😄 Just FYI the min jiang kueh you ate is fairly different from murtabak. The latter refers to the specific Indian dish and as far as I know, are always savoury dishes, filled with a thpe of mest or protein. Min jiang kuehs on the other hand are Chinese snacks.

nice, got one of singapore's signature dishes hainanese chicken rice on day one 🤤. I think it was anthony bourdain's favorite dish in singapore. did you ask for the roasted version? the traditional is boiled and I know it doesn't look as nice but so tasty especially with the tangy spicy orange sauce. libby needs to get a hat or higher spf sunscreen down near the equator, face getting a little red near the end 😟

Actually it’s Singa (Lion) & Pura (City)…so initially we are called Singapura but when british settlers came, they cant really pronounce Singapura and eventually it becomes Singapore

Ripple ice cream with the bread is the OG. Try that next time. There's also a 'mystery' flavour that they serve on a cone that is a mix of all the leftover blocks of the different flavours. 😂😂😂

@@sunkissedbucketlist it's the taste of childhood for many Singaporeans. When these block ice-creams were the craze a few years ago, people were trying to dissect which ice-creams went into making the 'mystery' flavour.. There were even talk of getting the ice-cream manufacturer to make and sell this as an actual flavour.

Lau pa sat is touristy. You should try hawker centres in the heartlands. The ones at beach road and Chinatown are very popular and you can also check our Haji Lane and Little India

heard you’ll be here for a few weeks! to get a local experience, i highly recommend taking the train from town(or wherever youre staying) using the red line (north-south) or green line (east-west) to see the infrastructures that is outside of the touristy spot! Khatib mrt station (red line) is where people take the shuttle bus to the zoo/river wonders/bird paradise. I always wondered if theyre lost everytime i go to work because they seem so out of place with the typical outdoorsy attire😂 😂

Fyi Sgp was formerly a British colony n that’s why we have all those colonial buildings that you saw. In fact the old City Hall was the place that the Japanese surrendered after WW2 back to the British led by Lord Louis Mountbatten.
