There's a nice story of how the Czech Republic came to be. In 1993 Czechoslovakia split peacefully into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, no civil war, no violence. Almost like two people getting to a door at the same time, "Oh please you first" "No I insist, you go first". It's great that you're not visiting known tourist traps with 4 hour lineups. Venice was at the top of our list many years ago, now it's not. Safe journey!

@@JimmyandNatalie One more history lesson from the old man and that's it. The Velvet Revolution was in Czechoslovakia 1989. The VERY short story is harsh communist rule for 41 years and in just a few months the people had a republic. There's obviously more to it but the Czechs have no deep resentments or bitterness about their past and it shows. Have a good night.

Not the nutrition in fome. The fome protects the rest of the beer from oxidation, so it tastes fresh longer. U Pinkasů is the first restaurant ever in Prague to have draft beer straight from kegs to glasses.

Hey I live just a few streets away from Grotta. It is used for small concerts or dancing classes. In the ninetees it was a hot spot for junkies. Needles everywhere but the city did a good job some 10 or 15 years ago and restored it to its original shape. At the beginning it's purpouse was just for relaxation. In 1906 when the park first opened to the public there was a garden restaurant called The Cave or By the Neptuns Cave (there is a statue of Neptun). It was partly destroyed durign 1945 bombings of Prague at the end of WW II.

Btw the foam is there to keep the beer fresh longer. It protects the beer from air. It was invented before refridgerator afterall. This is also why it is cooled to 10°C, not 4°like in USA.

the one thing about the foam on the beer: the alternative is that it ends up foamy in your stomach. So more gas etc. If you are there again, its well worth the 22euro or whatever to go inside the St. Vitus Cathedral, there is some incredible art inside, including a large wooden carving of the a Prague scene with the escape of the Winter King in 1620 following the Battle of White Mountain, also the great hall in Prague Castle, and St. George's Basilica the much older Romanesque church from 920, and the Golden Lane.

It was hillarious to see you eating the cheese by hands. For the people around you, it was the same, as if you start to eat by hand your stakes... :D There are utensils there for that... :D And it is much easier to take the "dip" by small piece of cheese with potato, than to dip it simply in as a whole. Not to mention it is MUUUUUCH easier to cut the cheese, than to bite it off - because if you are bitting it off, it is not usually clean bite and the rest goes stretchy, like a chewing gum.

Straight from the honest guide 'tube channel "the secret entrance" to the U Pinkasu "hidden beer garden" in the shade. and the cubist lamp. Show Janek and Honzik some love by giving them a shout out for the tips! The foam on the beer is to keep it from oxidizing and losing the flavor. Prague castle buildings are open from 9AM to 5PM with a ticket (that sign by the door shows the entrance/exit location is somewhere else). If you go after 5PM you can see the golden lane for free (in one shot in the background a whole tour group is going into the castle. Granted, that the grotto in Havlicek Gardens is not visited by that many tourists, Havlicek park is very popular. There is chateau that hosts many events, a large playground, and a cafe across from the playground where I have sat enjoying beer while my daughter is playing with the other wild kids. You got that backwards. The Orloj is the 3rd oldest operating clock in the world and the oldest Astronomical clock in operation. It was just repaired before covid. Nice cinematography shots though.

Excellent videos lately, folks, thank you SO much for sharing with us. $0.02 from an old fart that has been a traveler since my mid 20's, go cheap on the sleeping places, like you are, smart, but don't go cheap on the extra cultural stuff. That stuff is only in that place and you may only have the one chance to see it, don't pass it up. Also, maybe go outside of the touristy spots more? My favorite parts of France were the small towns like Les Deux Alpes and the castles I stopped to tour on the way there from Paris. Anyway, thank you again for being so kind as to share these times with us and, another $0.02, if you guys just want to take a week off from filming, editing or whatever to enjoy your time together in Europe, do it. After all, this trip should be for the two of you, we are just privileged to share some of it with you :)

There is also villa Gerbovka. The villa was finally offered to a group of Czech reformers and American lawyers who created the CEELI Institute and turned the property into a residential training center for legal professionals from across Central and Eastern Europe. Next to the Grotta is also a vineyard, one of several vineyards in Prague. It is interesting that wine is grown in the capital.

To your question in 14:40 - the purpose of the grotto is to draw the "wild cave" closer to your home without having to travel God knows how far. It was started by the nobility - especially in Renaissance and Baroque times it was fashionable. There are more of them in Prague - the biggest one is probably in Valdštejn Garden, where the whole south-eastern wall is built like this. In this particular case, the grotto was built by Moritz Gröbe - he was not a Baroque nobleman, but the 19th century a businessman in building railways, which was booming at the time, so he was filthy rich. The park the grotto is in was originally the garden around his villa - he had it built in 1871-88 and the cost of the whole area is equivalent to about 500 million CZK today...

Nice video. I am sad I found it this late. I enjoyed your experience with our capital. I think you missed nothing by not paying the 22 euros for all the building access in Prague Castle, as you did see the most beautiful things there. Just a few things you got wrong: The beer foam is for keeping the test of the beer fresh for a longer time (good beer is mostly poured through the foam, so even during drafting, the beer is not oxidized). Second and last is that at 10:36, you are pointing outside of the castle. It is maintained in a way that it keeps the historical value, but it is no longer part of the castle. Otherwise, I loved watching you eat the fried cheese by hand 😅. It makes sanse when you consider it as a giant mozzarella stick, but Czech uses a fork and knife for it.

From the map, I thought you would go to the Franciscane Gardens or to the Church of Our Lady of the Snows. But I didn't know that U Pinkasů have this nice little beer garden right next to the church. I have to visit there sometimes too. Don't take it as an insult please, but when you ate the lunch, I was thinking "Why don't he use knife for that moravian sparrow?" and then it got even worse with the cheese :D. I have never seen anyone eating fried cheese with their hands but it was nice and cute :). And to be honest I think I commited similar or even worse food crimes abroad without even knowing. The most important thing is to enjoy your time :). Thank you for your video.

Praq is beatifull, but try to visit other places in Czech republic. Many of them has strong history. For example Tabor, which was very importmant in history. Mělník or Litoměřice, from the Moravia, is beatifull Brno or Ostrava. On south you may find České Budějovice, which are really beatifull. On the east, you will find Pardubice or Hradec Kralove, next to them is Kutná Hora, which was most importmant in the history of Bohemia. So if you will vist Czech republic, dont stay only in Prague, but try to visit those cities and you will be supprised how those cities are nice. :)

I just happened to grow up just under the Prague castle. And my father used to be the prime architect for Prague for several years in the 90ys. So I actually have some insights and info regarding to the how this beautiful town "grown" in the last 4 decades. Should you decide to come back again, please don't hesitate to contact me for support to see more than meets the tourist eye 😀

In Prague zcastle they take you to a window in a council chamber where they threw out a councillor everyone hated. It’s called defenestration. The guy survived by the way

They threw 3 guys out the window, Jaroslav Bořita of Martinice, Vilém Slavata of Chlum and Filip Fabricius. They all survived as they landed on a dung heap at the bottom. One of them was injured by his own sword. Of course the Catholic side took advantage of this and said they were saved by God - there's even a fresco in some church where the men are caught by little angels.

Love seeing those beer mugs at every meal. 🍻You guys are doing it right! 😂Also, that beer is probably cheaper than ordering a bottle of water per person. - Who knows, maybe you'll even make it to my old stomping grounds next. 🇦🇹 If you do, say hi from me to Karlsplatz and the Vienna University of Technology. I am over 5000 miles away myself.

Thanks! Prague is quite beautiful. I am very curious as you travel if the coffee is very different in one country to the next. Here's to the next couple cups. ☕☕

Hey! Thank you so much! 😊 We haven’t gone out for coffee too much, but I will say it seems like Espresso’s are a bigger deal over here. I can keep you posted the more we try, though! 😄
