5:19 Not exactly, Isekai means something like "another world". Where despite the most common being from the human world to the fantasy world it is not necessarily always like this, where the opposite can also happen. Also from going to a fantasy world to a more cyberpunk world, leaving a fantasy world and going to another fantasy world, etc. There is no exact formula, it's just leaving one world and going to another.

@@hurpdurp916thats a you problem then, hes amazingly written. not every character has to be badass to be well written and subaru is the best thing about re zero, if you dont like him then its just not your thing and youre never gonna enjoy because hes the center piece that makes re zero work

His level of badassery is not the issue. His personality, which they make a big show of improving, ends up backsliding in a major moment and it soured the whole thing for me. His "I did this so you owe me that" behavior is something he never fully evolved from and I just find it to be very ick. @@chelronin7843

Oh man, it'll be quite a while if one ep a week to have both the seasons, basically a year. Sekai means world, isekai means another world (or parallel world). Just since people want escapism, it's always a fantasy medieval magical world. Puck is a dude btw, and he has a reason to look surprised at "satella". First episode was a Doble length one like Oshi No Ko, but was split into two episodes for directors cut. It also has few changed scenes. Let's see if the sus are correct.

Isekai is when a character moves from one world to another, not just from our earth to some fantasy world. And it's another reality in particular. Travelling through space to another world doesn't count. Fictional worlds also don't count, so virtual reality games don't make a show isekai (e.g. _Swort Art Online_ is *NOT* an isekai). Methods of travelling from one world to the next that I've seen: 1) Suddenly disappearing from one world and appearing in another, with no explanation (at least at first). 2) Being summoned by a ritual from the destination world, typically in search of an otherworlder hero to fight the dark forces of evil (lots of twists on this one). 3) Being killed (often by a truck - a fact cleverly lampooned in the recent _No Longer Allowed in Another World_ anime), then reincarnating into the destination world. Often involving a deity who explains the situation and grants powers to the character. Lots of twists on that relationship as well, the funniest of which can be seen in _Konosuba._ 4) Finding a strange portal or gateway then going through it, voluntarily or otherwise. 5) Playing a virtual reality game that turns into a real world. There are some cases where the gateway between worlds is persistent, and people go back and forth. While they tick the most important boxes for being an isekai, I tend to not think of them as that, since being stranded in the other world is an important part of the recipe, in my opinion. I've thus far only seen one show I'd definitely call an isekai where the main character actually returns to the original world, and not as some kind of series ending closure, but as a cliffhanger at the end of the second season.

I dont think re:zero is a good beginners isekai, the beginning especially expects the viewer to be aware of the usual isekai tropes, just as subaru is aware of them, an isekai were the protagonist is just as confused as the viewer to eventually figure it out is better for new viewers of the genre, thats how RBD is explained in re:zero because its explained to the viewer as subaru understands it
