ABOUT KEVIN CHAPMAN
I'm a 38 year old KZbinr from the UK. I've got a cracking beard and I'm currently going through the autism diagnosis process. I started this channel back in 2017 and by the time I left my full-time job as a Computer Science teacher in July of that year, my partner Anna was trapped in our house by our son Andy, who is autistic and had refused to go to school for 18 months. Our daughters Lucy and Amy and our dog Dave hardly saw me because I was always working to try and solve all our problems! Today I'm a full-time content creator and always at home when the kids get home from school (all our kids!) and Anna has been able to return to university. I cannot *wait* to see the Footage :) Sadly, there is a Massive Shortage of Special School Places in the UK these Days, ever since the Majority of them got Shut in the Short Sighted and, IMO *Disastrous* "Inclusion" Era of the Late 1990s, and, sadly, there are a Number of People in Parliament, I wont name Names, who just will Not allow Funding to be Made available for More Special Schools to be Re-Opened! Yeah, Dave loves Visitors it would Seem :) I am Sorry that the Social Workers, Despite their Unfailing Efforts, are Currently Unable to Find Andy a Special School Place due to Deadlines being Missed. I think the Main issue is Probably the School being Full, as there is a Gross Shortage of Special School Places as there is, according to the Daily Mail at Least, there are 3 Special Needs Children for every Single Place here in the UK! its a Disaster :( I Just Hope You can get Andy a Really Nice Special School Place as Soon as Possible... There are Spaces at One in Rossal, Lancs, but that would Require another Move :( Still, with Lockdown Lifting, You should Hopefully be able to get Andy out of the House more often to that Bounce House Place. According to My Mum, who used to be the Bursar in a Mainstream Infants School before She took Early Retirement, In an *Extreme Emergency* , basically the "Worst Case Scenario", the Social Services have a Couple of Extra "last Resort" Options, they can either put Andy into a Mainstream Infants or Primary School that is Capable of Supporting His Needs (they did have some Teenagers at the One My Mom Worked at who had been placed there because there just was *not* a Single Special School Place Available for them, and Her School was Capable of Supporting "Moderate to Severe" level Autistic Students despite being Mainstream) , given that, from What I have Personally seen, so Please do not take this the Wrong Way, Andy seems to be at a "Reception" Level Educationally, or they Can place Him into the "Support Base" at a Mainstream Secondary, but they prefer not to take the Second Option as, due to the Bullying Risk, they basically have to keep the "Transfer" in the Support Base for the Entire Day to Protect them from the "Regular" Pupils, but again, that is an *Extreme* Emergency, and, going on what Mum has Said, I think it is, If they just *cannot* get a Special School Place for Andy, far more Likely that the Social Workers will place Andy into a Mainstream Infants or Primary School that is Capable of Supporting His Needs. I know, You cannot take time off Work to look after Andy, so they Really need to Find Him a School Place as Soon as Possible so He can Settle down and Become less Destructive. I am glad You got the Camera and the Go-Pro Fixed, and Indeed, I am Sorry that Andy has become so Destructive, but I know that He just cannot Help Himself in a Meltdown as He just does not have the Faintest Idea what He is Doing, If His Meltdowns are anything Like Mine, I tend to "Black Out", My Brain basically "Stops Recording" I do not know what I have done until someone Tells Me *after* the Meltdown is over and My Receptive Communication has Recovered to a Point where I can Understand what I am being Told. Yes, That sounds like an Accident with the Phone :( I am Sorry that Andy Slipped, I do Hope that He did not Hurt Himself, Poor Lamb. Agreed, Hopefully the Increase of Trips to Churches, Going to the Bounce House, Going to Adventure Golf, Etc, at Weekends as Lockdown continues to Lift, and then goes away entirely as more and more People are Vaccinated ,, will help Stabilise Andy and Make Him a Lot less Bored! I’m really happy you found a place and had some fun for a change. Being an American making a grill cheese in a pan has always been as far as I know. That’s the way we were taught. 😂😂😂 You butter the outside of both pieces of bread put the cheese on the bread and if you want to add some ham with it. Toast both sides of the bread and press down to melt the cheese. I like American cheese on my grilled cheese. A lot of people like grilled cheese and eat tomato soup with it.

Just putting it out there, but Andy could be volunteered to a food bank, possibly working, remembering that he loved it there in your old area? It would give him something to do, plus, it'll teach him budgeting and work ethics, as that's part and parcel of his independence, and while he's there, you could do what you wanted to do and maybe pick him up after? Or get him to learn to get there and back himself? Just an idea. Plus, for years , 16 WAS a normal leaving school age and typically, it was when you are at working age. As for the one person who sent something to Andy (I'm curious to know what it is, as I think it might have been simular to the things Harvey (Katie's Price's son) gets sent on a daily basis), unfortunately, there will always be people like that everywhere, and if I were in the situation, I would probably laugh and ignore it.

Hi Kevin, I would recommend getting an advocate to deal with social services and having a look at the Autism act 2009, the care act 2014 (legal you should be supported to continue to work) and the children's and family act 2014. as well as the UN conventions of the rights of person with disability and rights of children. So you can be sure they are following the legal process set out in the legislation. Also NICE have guidelines on autistic adults and social and transition into adult hood which may be helpful. In personal experience we have use all of these and more to help inform us. You may already be aware of these documents, but if not it might be helpful to have a look at.

I don't really comment but I do watch videos. Look at Macintyre charity they have special schools and programs I would really lol at that. I know you work really hard in the other channel and I sure you do some home learning I mean life skills will be one of Andy main goals right so a bit of life skills e.g loading washing machine You may even do this already. Working with many children and young people and having son with autism I know for parents it can be hard. Awful about card I don't blame you. If you do read this please do try macintyre charity as they are good. Not sure what they got round your area but worth a try.
